A.W.O.L. Prologue

Just for you guys to read because I havent posted in a while and i’m proud of the prologue of my story

A child receives a special ability sometime between the ages five and seven. 85 percent of humanity has one as of the 2100’s. But along with those abilities comes the fear and resentment, the natural human reactions. At first they started as heightened hearing, or eyesight but soon evolved beyond into manipulation of external objects.

One would think that after the Atomic War, War on Coal, and The Blood of 2145 that the human race would learn something from its past.

The Atomic War nearly wiped out all of humanity on the west side of the world in 2026. The remaining thousands' survived and slowly the coming generations adapted to the radiation, leading to the survival of the West. The East lost countless numbers to the West, but not nearly as much as the West had lost. The once so fearless and brazen West had finally refused to participate in any conflict across the border whatsoever, for fear of extinction.

Taking place in 2102, War on Coal was the bloodiest recorded war in all of history, resulting in billions of casualties across the globe and only ended with the mass murder of every world leader in power—then throwing all of the world into anarchy with no leaders. The true details of the war were erased from History during the Excretion—the days in which there were no authorities; no one knows how it started, when it started or when it ended. All that is known is that since humanity’s restoration, resources such as coal and oil had since been drained. It took years for the world to rely on solar and wind power, but the radiation from the nuclear war caused significantly stronger winds, making the transition easier.

The Blood was the most brutal genocide to take place in the East of the world in 2145. People who were different—of color, homosexual, of religions other than a group's preference, et cetera—were killed in the streets, murdered in their sleep, stabbed in alleys or in restaurants. As long as they died, no one cared. The black market nearly overtook the entire market, being the biggest supplier of poison of all sorts of murder weapons. The only thing that stopped it was a convention of the world leaders putting an end to it by vote.

The human race learned from these wars—but not the way that the world needed.

2177, just 30 years after the Blood of 2145, a wealthy man who owned a science lab once claimed that blue-eyed people were the most dangerous because he merely had brown eyes. They claimed they had the most powerful abilities and were the most likely to become corrupt and unstable, thus making them criminals.

This lab claim caused mass hysteria. The tensions from the Blood bubbled over again and drove everyone to fear their neighbors with blue eyes, as most of the world had blue eyes. The government quickly took action and made everyone with blue eyes suspects of crimes. Eventually, protests for keeping blue eyed "bluffs" alive began, which drove everyone to press for executions without charge.

The government, as corrupt and fearful as it was, denied these requests.

Soon after, terrorist attacks became imminent. Everyone claimed "it was the bluffs, they're conspiring." Blue eyed men and women protested that they were set up, but the government listened to none of it and executed them when they came.

There were a few years of silence until in 2180, when the first baby with oddly colored hair was born. Scientists explained it to be mutations in the hair color alleles due to the generations of exposure to radiation (among many other anatomical changes), most likely from the bombs that labs were creating all over the world, as adaptations against the radiation in the West were made 152 yers ago. Children with oddly colored hair were bullied for being "mutants" and "freaks" and soon they were killed as well. People took it upon themselves to slaughter their neighbors and friends; gangs formed to protect each other; life in cities was dangerous.

The world experienced so much loss that the human race was endangered by itself. The Royals, the purest blue-blooded families in the World Conference, finally passed a world-wide law that no matter how much fear bluffs and hues struck into the people, no one had a right to kill them.

No matter the law, people refused to go near them, so they were forced into hiding.
