I think everyone that voted for Trump should google “Trump and Hitler” and then “Kamala and Hitler”. Cuz it’s very telling that Trump has articles and podcasts from historians and authors comparing him to Hitler— yet when you look up Kamala and Hitler the ONLY thing you get is when she said people were right to call Trump a fascist… no parallels, nothing. So honestly I don’t really care about how horrible Kamala’s America might have been cuz at least it’d still be America and not 1930s Germany. If someone genuinely sees no problem with that comparison, we will never agree on anything.
Quote me on this. HUMAN RIGHTS AREN’T UP FOR POLITICAL DEBATE!!!!! YOU CANNOT ETHICALLY DEFEND THE MURDER OF INNOCENT PEOPLE!!!

Honestly Suzanne already told us that Katniss is Covey in TBOSAS. When Lucy Gray sings Maude Ivory to sleep, she sings Deep In The Meadow. It’s a lullaby, not a broadcasted song passed down through the Covey’s performances, like Nothing You Can Take From Me. There’s no plausible way Katniss would have known it unless it was passed down to her from family. (Edit: a reblog reminded me a lot of D12 had learned it so that’s mb,, but I still think the parallel stands because Snow probably wouldn’t realize that it wasn’t just another of Lucy Gray’s songs)
Which also tells us that Snow knew she was Covey before she even left the arena. Not only was Katniss a singer who used the mockingjays to copy her voice (like how Lucy Gray did when Coriolanus tried to kill her in the woods), she was singing a Covey lullaby to a little girl. That was Lucy Gray reincarnated anyway he looked at it.
Yeah she was doomed as fuck guys.
(Also makes me wonder if maybe Lucy Gray was singing to the mockingjays not to mock Coriolanus but in hopes of communicating to her family what happened to her, because that was how Katniss was trying to communicate with Rue. )

War is such a vile, pointless thing that it sounds like it should be pure fiction. like wdym all these young men are murdering people whose names they’ll never know. Wdym they’re all going to watch their friends die and the government will just replace them like they mean nothing? And people call it “serving your country”. Wdym the government can just lie about strangers and force random people to go murder them?
Wdym thousands of men, women, children, babies, cats, dogs, and wildlife die faceless and nameless in their own homes and then a rich man who doesn’t even speak their language calls it nothing more than a “warning” to their leader. And it doesn’t even matter because casualties of war are nothing to anyone’s government except an excuse to kill more innocents. What do you mean thousands upon thousands of innocent human beings are starved, tortured, and bombed for crimes they never committed and somehow powerless civilians in other countries are the only people who care.
Nobody wins a war. There are no sides in war. There are only dead people and rich people. Don’t pretend it is any different than that.

i think its very telling that i’ll get caught in hours of The Hunger Games analysis videos that are unpacking the intricacies of the universe cuz theres so much to it, and then i’ll get caught in hours of Harry Potter analysis videos that are deconstructing all the plot holes and fallacies because theres so much to it lol

a writing competition i was going to participate in again this year has announced that they now allow AI generated content to be submitted
their reasoning being that "we couldn't ban it even if we wanted to, every writer already uses it anyway"
"Every writer"?

honestly id love to read an au where Maysilee was Plutarch’s little pet rebel and eventual Victor for the 50th Hunger Games instead of Haymitch, to see how she paints her rebel poster during the games, how the Capitol gets revenge on her, how she becomes the worst Victor the Capitol has ever seen, and how she mentors Katniss and Peeta. theres a lot of potential with this storyline tbh cuz shes such a strong character (like guys just think of all the maysilee-asterid angst parallel to the haymitch-burdock angst)

Now that SOTR exposed a huge discrepancy between Victors games and their portrayals to the public, there seems to be a pattern. And following this pattern, we can safely assume that a vast majority of Victors are forced to go against everything they stand for. Which I know, duh. But this shows that they’ve already given us the blueprints of who they used to be.
Katniss is forced to be a lovestruck teenaged girl, eager to marry and have kids. But we know Katniss was fiercely independent and down-to-earth and was blatantly against having children because she couldn’t subject them to her cruel world.
Haymitch is a raging alcoholic, who used to be quite the rascal but is now a shell of a man and accepts that death is inevitable. But we know Haymitch was full of love and full of life, he didn’t like drinking and he didn’t just dream of a hopeful future, he fought for it.
Wiress is twitchy and neurotic and often can’t finish her own sentences. But we know she was very well-composed and an intellectual genius, who managed to go an entire games without killing because she outwitted the arena.
Finnick is a deviously charming playboy, infamous sweetheart of the Capitol that only cares for himself. But we know he’s warm and friendly and down to earth, he’s funny and can be trusted with anything.
Peeta managed to get through the games without sabotaging his personality in the process. But then he gets kidnapped and tortured. And then Peeta is angry and overemotional, he’s hateful and scared and doesn’t know what’s real anymore. But we know Peeta is kind and genuine, he’s gentle and he never wanted to be just another piece in their games.
The Johanna we know is angry and loud. She threatens the Capitol with no fear of retaliation and hasn’t loved anyone openly since her games. But we also know she still misses home and depends on drugs to escape reality— she doesn’t search for it like many characters. We hear that she pretended to be weak to win her games via surprise talent. What if she wasn’t pretending, and she really was a scared, emotional kid? What if she faltered once on camera and had to stick to the persona? Maybe she was just another kid the rebellion used. Maybe she was trusting and loving and quiet, and she lost all of that to the Capitol.
Annie is twitchy and anxious and overemotional, to the point that she can’t be trusted with secrets. They all said she lost her mind when her district partner was beheaded. She plays “real or not real” before Peeta does. I wonder if she used to be self-assured and brave and maybe reckless. Maybe the Capitol was taking away her signature ability to see how the world really worked and be someone people relied on.
I’ve seen people speculate that Enobaria filed her teeth into fangs to make herself less appealing, not just because it’s a mark of her signature kill. She voted yes for the games including Capitol children and we never get a read on her character except for her spite. Before the games, was she perhaps an approachable person, someone with empathy and a face that was easily read by others? A teeth-to-throat kill is a terrified, losing animal kill. Maybe she had to throw away all her humanity to survive her games and could never find herself again.
And what about the Victors with Morphling addictions? They were nameless and their identities were stolen entirely by their addictions. But in the girl’s final moments before death, she paints on Peeta’s arm. I wonder if she was an artist, full of wonder and deeply aware of the system she was trapped in. Maybe she loved life and went into her games unwilling to let people make her into a faceless dead tribute but she lost herself by winning.
How much was a cover up? How many Victors lost their lives long before they died? Probably all of them.

ive always wondered like why Katniss was the only one Snow seemed to have a grudge against when her and Peeta were rebels together, cuz like yes he hates that she’s Covey descent but he just leaves Peeta alone?? Peeta doesn’t even realize Snow’s mad at them after the games, which proves Snow didn’t make Peeta scared of him on a personal level.
But I thought about how blond, blue eyed, merchant-class, pretty boy Peeta got on that stage and knew how to use his words as a weapon and a shield, he could play a crowd and make himself look good. He made people root for Katniss as a desirable tribute through his love for her. In the arena, Peeta trusts Katniss and then she lies to him and drugs him and runs off to do something he told her not to do because “her plans often don’t include you”. I think when Snow asks Katniss, “at what point did he realize the degree of your indifference? Perhaps not as taken with him as you would have the country believe,” he’s partly referring to that moment because he remembers the moment Lucy Gray saw all the evidence in one place and left for the katniss that was still out of season and remembers the poisonous snake in her clothes that bit him when he went looking for her.
He tells Katniss to aim higher than convincing the world she loved Peeta; “Convince me.” Because he knows what it looks like for a Covey girl to put on a show and for the blond boy to risk his life for her but never know when she’s being genuine.
Guys he believes Peeta because he thinks HE’S Peeta !!! He tortures Peeta into hating her because he thinks he’s helping HIMSELF !!!

when Haymitch tells Katniss “you never get off this train”, she realizes that her star-crossed lovers act for the Hunger Games propaganda sealed her fate as a love struck teenaged girl for the rest of her life. And this news is devastating because it goes against everything she stands for; she has no time for relationships while providing for her family, and has no desire to marry and consequently give birth to more cannon fodder for the Hunger Games.
What’s really interesting about this, though, is that Katniss then goes over all the reaped tributes for the 75th Games and believes a lot of what she’s told about them, from a Capitol controlled narrative. Katniss assumed the worst of Finnick right from the beginning cuz of his charisma and popularity in the Capitol. Annie and Wiress went crazy from their games. Enobaria filed all her teeth into fangs to represent how she won her games. She never even learns the names of the Morphling-addicted Victors. And even with Haymitch, it takes quite some effort to see past the personas they forced on him.
That’s why SOTR was so important because it shows just how casual propaganda can become and that nobody’s immune to it. That nothing we knew was real because the Capitol genuinely controlled everything. To think about everything that could’ve been a lie or a cover up of something bigger is overwhelming; it’s supposed to be.

theres a distinct difference between Katniss’s and Haymitch’s narration style that i think a lot of other people are noticing and it is that haymitch seems to know a lot more about District 12 and Panem than Katniss seemed to. and SotR might seem like lore dropping or name dropping but like. i think it says a lot about them as people.
I think the lack of context we get from Katniss isnt just due to propaganda, but largely due to the fact that she’s so deeply rooted in poverty and survival mode that she simply doesn’t have the mental capacity for anything else. When traumatized, our brains automatically retain less information than they ordinarily would and we see that with Katniss. Not for friends, or school, nor propagandized television lore. Notice how we get descriptions of most tributes before she remembers their names, if she ever does, while Haymitch actually remembers a lot of their names right off the bat. When you’re fighting for your life every day, it really doesn’t leave much energy for anything else. She’s used to saving all of her energy for providing for her family.
But Haymitch isn’t providing for his family. He has several friends, a healthy romantic relationship, and retains information about society because hes not neglected.
It’s just so interesting that Katniss is the luckier of the pair because in their childhood parallels, she drew the short stick compared to him. She’s only luckier cuz she had him.

I feel like theres two reason why Haymitch agreed to go back into the arena when Katniss begged him and then seemed almost disappointed when his name was reaped.
For one, its because he wouldn’t very well let someone’s neglected little brother go into the arena. Katniss’s devotion to Prim would’ve reminded Haymitch of his obligation to Sid. But there was no Sid anymore. There was, however, another optimistic boy with older brothers that didn’t take care of him. And I’m sure Haymitch couldn’t stomach the idea of sending either of those little boys into the arena.
I also think it was because Haymitch looked at his spunky sweetheart with braided hair who was suspicious of others intentions and he thought that maybe this time he could protect her in there.
When I first read Catching Fire I was aching for Katniss when she begged Haymitch to volunteer for Peeta in the Quarter Quell.
Now?
I’m aching for Haymitch who was begged to re-enter the arena for a second Quarter Quell after the last one took everything from him… and he said yes.

when maysilee demanded utensils for all of her meals because she refused to eat with her hands and be seen as any less than human . And 24 years later, Effie says to Katniss and Peeta, “At least you two have decent manners, the pair last year ate everything with their hands like a couple of savages” and Katniss, knowing those kids had been starving their entire lives, then eats her entire meal with her hands to make that same exact point: “the Capitol doesn’t get to dehumanize us without our permission”.
i wish Haymitch had been in the room for that bit of Maysilee’s flair.
