i HATE jkr, but her world building is so ass and we deserve better! thus starts my journey to create a new (re: better) school system for the harry potter universe. im focusing on the schools because:
1. all of china and india (BILLIONS OF PEOPLE) in one school? stupid. dumb. idiotic. chaotic.
2. all of the middle east in one school? really?
3. some schools dont even have names.
4. all of north america and south america has 2 schools. thats dozens of people groups, languages, millions of miles, cultures, etc. in one school.
5. italy doesnt even fit into a category of school on her map.
6. im not gonna create a whole new world. thats crazy ambitious
theres more bit yknow. i start tonight. i probably wont finish. i will start with america. my aim is to respect culture, language and region more than she does which isn’t hard. i may need help lol.

mini 70s fashion resource masterlist
I'm working on bigger projects (that might never see the light of day because I can't figure out formatting, links and other stuff) but I wanted to provide some sources for those interested in fashion, specifically for writing 70s fashion in fics and books.
I love 70s fashion and it hurts my heart to see so many characters in bell bottoms, bright colors, converse and leather when those weren’t even the biggest parts! I like to use pictures from real people and their lives, as well as magazines. I like to stay away from the costume style that’s often portrayed in movies.
these are sorted from my favorite to least favorite
Reddit- Yeah yeah I know it’s reddit, but there are so many good resources!
r/TheWayWeWere is MY FAVE!!!! It’s literally random people’s pictures from any era! Their focus is on people in everyday life, so it’s perfect. Go to this subreddit, type your desired era or use the flair and you have hundreds of real life pictures from real life people in your desired era.
r/70s is a lot, it’s everything 70s so you get some good stuff and some bad stuff, but it’s authentic for sure
r/vintagefashion and r/vintage a lot of this is really good, but some can get gimmicky, overall they are good resources
r/TheGoodOldDays hit or miss but it’s okay
r/fashion and r/mensfashion hard to sort through, a lot of the advice tends to be a little gimmicky
Sewing Patterns- A lot of people sewed their own clothes in the 70s
Readily available, easy to find, with the variety you can find super popular stuff and less popular stuff
Simplicity Sewing Pattern, Vintage Sewing Pattern Company, Vintage Sewing Patterns Wiki, there’s SO MANY websites out there
Magazine articles from the 70s- this is the advice a lot of people followed so it’s good for me!
A big big reason for this being second is that it’s a bit inaccessible, I haven’t had much luck but I am not the most technologically advanced individual
The best way to view these is at a library that has them archived on microfilm, if you have a good, large library near you then you might be in luck
There are some archived and digitized online, but they are mostly behind a paywall or incomplete pieces.
Large magazines have vaults, like TIME and Vogue, but some they can be a representation of the upper class and the very rich which isn’t the target of most authors
Movies/shows from the 70s- ehhh pretty hit or miss. movies from the 70s tend to be a pretty idealistic representation of what people were wearing. it HEAVILY depends of what kind of show
Movies set in the 70s- this is a super broad one so some are great! some are bad! i would suggest looking at other sources, at least for a while, once you notice the trends then you can notice what’s realistic and what isn’t.

i think we miss a lot of content when we ignore Remus’ grief.
does he celebrate James’ birthday? does he go all out like James would’ve or does he settle for a cupcake? does he shut himself in a room and do nothing? did he celebrate his own birthday, it would’ve been a few months after the murder of Lily and James? even if dozens of came to his party, those people would never fill the gap his 5 friends left. does he hear of Regulus’ disappearance and think of Sirius, does he wish to reach out despite the betrayal? does he keep in contact with Peter’s mom?
grief has a tendency to sneak up on you, one day you’re okay but the next you’re clinging to memories that are fading. do you think Remus forgot? do you think he forgot the freckle under Peters eye? the direction Sirius parted his hair? the crooked direction of James’ nose? the last book he read with Lily? holding onto a memory can be like breaking your hand, after a while it still works just fine, but your grasp will never be quite right.

hi guys i have a really long post about 1970s fashion that i’ve been working on for a few months on and off. i’ve been looking at magazines, pictures, forums and articles. would that something y’all would be interested in?
i started it as a guide for marauder fic writers and just as a personal interest.

I think a lot of us try to ignore the fact that falling out of love is indeed real. It's not pretty, and it involves hurt and pain, but it happens. Trying to stay with someone, forcing yourself to not acknowledge how you feel in spite of knowing it, is not "working towards it"; it's unfair to all parties involved. Yes, on a bad day when you are not feeling like engaging with them, you make a conscious choice to love them still. But if something in your dynamic has permanently changed, you need to acknowledge that. It's not fair to you or who you are with if you bottle up what you have been feeling. If you think there's room for discussion to make things better, that's great. If you know there isn't, walk out. They deserve better and so do you. Love will find you again.

james potter fits !
my inspo is that james never really had much of an interest in muggle things, until hogwarts. remus introduced him to The Beatles! i think a lot of his fashion sense comes from pictures of The Beatles from the 60s, as well as sirius thinking it’s funny to tell james to/buy him the craziest 70s items, thus the pants and boots and stuff. Converse fell in popularity in the 70s, but i don’t think james would care too much, as some of his taste is greaser and sirius inspired lol
