hi !! it's been a while, so long that i've accidentally fixated on the batman franchise and red hood's character. who would have thought!

i didn't like this one as much as the other two versions (hence why it's hidden below the cut), mostly because i got kind of stressed with his face for some reason, so the shading and shape isn't quite what i wanted it to be like. oh well! 🤔

i really like the third sketch, a lot more than the rendered version of it. comparing the second sketch to its finished version, it seems like i went a little overboard with the blood which does take away a little from the actual piece itself... whoops 😓

Correct me if I'm wrong but are you taking requests? If you are, could you write something with Harvey and Bruce, specifically with a non-villain Harvey who is working with Bruce and is around the Batfamily? I can't get 'Uncle Harvey' out of my head! Thank you!

Harvey leaned back into the sofa, smiling into his mug of coffee. Damian remained undeterred, staring intensely at the district attorney.

“You’re smart,” he said, making brief eye contact with Bruce. The other man was three batkids and a sofa over, looking like he desperately wanted to pass out into his coffee. “I’m sure you’ve figured it out by now.”

Making a Murderer continued on the television screen, a black and white photo fading into the background as the episode drifted to a close. Without a word, Stephanie lifted the remote, clicking next episode with a determination that was scary.

Though there are valid reasons to want characters to have their own identities, I think some people insist too much on the Batfamily having all individual, unique names. This is why the Orphan name persists so much in fandom, or even Wayne Family Adventures - it's a byproduct of seeing 'Batgirl' as transitory and lesser than. This is not only a misunderstanding of Batgirl, but a misunderstanding of legacy mantles. Legacy mantles aren't stepping stones towards individuality, but identities with symbolic and storied histories. Characters can, and sometimes should, end in a legacy role.

It's also interesting that this anti-legacy philosophy is exactly what DC adopted during the New 52. They destroyed virtually every legacy they could, including wiping Tim's Robin history, erasing the JSA, and deleting Cass and Steph's histories. We all agree New 52 was bad, but most people focus on the content/ramifications on a specific character, when it's the philosophy that was wrong. New 52 was an effort to diminish the power of legacy titles, and to dismiss many characters that fall under the legacy umbrella.

Some characters should grow out of their mantles, of course. But that doesn't make the mantle they grow out of less meaningful or important than the mantle they step into. If we want to leave the New 52 behind, we need to leave its anti-legacy philosophy behind, too.

something I don’t think is explored enough in canon AND fic is how every single Bat, but especially Batman himself, would absolutely give anyone with formal military training heart palpitations if they saw them in action. oh you can fly a plane? you’re used to sophisticated combat? WHERE ARE YOUR VERBAL COMMANDS? how are you preventing friendly fire? what is the chain of command? why are you ignoring air traffic control in downtown airspace—

Gothamites are weirdly proud and protective of their hero so whenever they find out Batman is interested in someone (Clark Kent, another civilian, etc) that person gets special, haphazard protection in Gotham because no one wants to piss off the Bat. Kind of like a Mafia Boss’ wife or girlfriend.

Clark gets escorted through Gotham while there for a piece by two separate (opposing) gangs, an off-duty firefighter, and three old ladies who were “worried” about him being on the streets late at night (read: after 4 pm).

Sure, there’s still people who try to kidnap him. But most nearby Gothamites will be like hey! leave the kid alone, don’t you know who he is?
