Looking over Pruning Shears and Spades again… and god I love the symbolism I put in there.

And the horror. I was able to make it twisted enough to build off of, and there’s going to be more plant horror and dysmorphia…

The way that vines tangle over bones, the way that flowers bloom from cavities that they have no place being in, the way that flowers have such interesting alternate names… I *love* it

I do love to make Hazel go through things. Both physical and emotional distress.

She won’t die though! It’s not a tragedy so you all won’t have to worry about it.

Working on a short story for a little world I can't get out of my head, and this one will be free for all to read! I'm excited to post it, and might flesh out the characters a bit more later. It might become a series of short stories it might not. Only time will tell.

I'm going to look at it with fresh eyes when I wake up tomorrow, and I'll decide on if I want to post it as is or work on it more

The fourth chapter for PSS has been sent through kindle Vella. It is in review—however, I realized that I forgot to add the chapter number so it’ll probably be a bit longer before it’s out of review, since I’ll have to edit it and put the number in the chapter

“I’m an author,” I say, as I eye my search history, wondering if I’ve managed to get myself on a watchlist.

“I’m an author,” I say, as I lay there in bed, barely holding on, barely keeping myself from being crushed by dread.

“I’m an author!” I manage to giggle out, as I continue to type quickly at 3 in the morning, trying to get all of the ideas that rattled about out of my head.

“I am… an author.” I say, as I look over my indecipherable writing from earlier that morning. I have no clue what I was trying to write

Also, slightly off topic of PS&S but I am soooooo excited to work on CT. I have ten chapters outlined, and they’ll all be around 1000 words or more, but like. Disabled main characters, man. Both of them bi, both of them willing to figure things out together.

Clear communication… enforced boundaries… having someone love and care about them, despite all of their insecurities.

Accessible homes, deep conversations, age gap romance… I love them all.

Hello Hello! I’ve just realized that I didn’t make an introduction post!

I’m Jay, just a queer dude in their mid 20s, who likes to write a variety of things! I post on kindle vella, mostly because I can get the motivation to work on the next chapter. My writing and reading tastes are all over the place, and I’ve tried dipping my toes into a variety of different genres!

My favorite to write has to be horror, mostly because I find it cathartic, but I also like romance and the way intimacy can build! I have so many notes on my stories of what happens behind the scenes, and I might post some of those along with wips. Extra insight to my characters, and such.

I currently have one serial novel that’s being published, called Pruning Shears and Spades which is available on both Kindle Vella and Fictionate.me! The first three chapters are free to read, so you can see if it’s something you’d like to read to completion!

There is probably going to be an update 1-2 times a month, since I have to pay my editor, but I think that makes it worth it, so my writing is cleaned up and easier to get through!

I have the third chapter up! And this is where the body horror starts up if that’s what you’re into! This is the last chapter that will be up for free, but I hope that y’all enjoy it!!!

Below is a small piece from the chapter!

She reaches out to Wren, a gentle touch on the shoulder to get their attention… and then she sees their face properly, and can’t look away. Blooming carnations are overflowing out of their eye sockets, the familiar golden brown nowhere to be found. A choked sound is struggling to escape from their throat. Their mouth drops open, and Hazel can see the stems growing from the back of their throat, brushing against their tongue and prying their jaws apart.

The choked, garbled sound seems to go on forever, until Wren’s mouth is too full of leaves and petals for their voice to get through. A hand with twitching fingers reaches for her, and now she’s held and shaken in its grip, unable to blink, unable to look away. All she can do is stare in horror at what used to be her friend, now overrun by the plants she loves so much. Hazel can feel bruises starting to form under Wren’s grip, and when she reaches to grab their wrist to try and free herself, it no longer feels like she’s moving under her own will, but as if the growth from her body is reaching out to theirs.

It’s always hard, building a new life from scratch. Having to leave the places that hold so many memories, good and bad. She still has her possessions, of course. All the little knickknacks and other things that she couldn’t or wouldn’t leave behind: a cool rock she found in a riverbed, pressed flowers tucked away in books, an absolutely hideous figurine that she’s inexplicably attached to. Her bed, covered in a mountain of pillows, plus an old quilt and a handful of throw blankets that she will end up twisting around her like a nest while she sleeps. A dresser and some tables. Clothes, most of which will end up sitting in the closet, unseen by anyone. Several pairs of shoes that she’ll try and fail to keep in order—before long they’ll be scattered all over the house. After a while, seeing her things around this place will make it feel like a house rather than just a space: temporary, and very empty.

I think this one would be a supernatural thriller? Hazel is trying to find herself after dedicating herself to others, with body horror, metamorphosis, and something that’s keeping an eye on the human they’re so fond of. I have a few chapters down, and a cover is ready :3

I should be able to post some chapters to Kindle Vella by the end of the week, but no promises!
