Soil testing at 2 adjacent properties. Picture on the left, it is being maintained with pesticides and petroleum based fertilizers. Very low organic matter, sandy soil and it is treated every year for dandelion, crabgrass and grubs. Picture on the right is from an organic lawn. High organic matter. Has not been treated for grubs, or any other pests. It has not been fertilized in 8 years. If you are a home owner, or a lawn care provider using chemical fertilizers and pesticides, you have to re-apply them several times every season. Organically you don't have to because organic lawn and garden care is all about the soil. Improving the soil makes most of the common weeds and pests disappear. It takes several years to have an almost weed free lawn. Feed the soil and not the plant.

Spending the evening with my firefighter brothers and sisters selling Christmas trees. All the profits go towards new equipment like airpacks and fire gear. Not many flowers left, but taking advantage of the beautiful colors of the Fall. The day after Thanksgiving is one of my favorites because there is nobody on the road and the streets are pretty much empty. Today I am working on mulching planting beds. If you spray chemicals on your #lawn you will find this type of damage every Spring and Fall. Skunks are digging this newly seeded lawn looking for grubs in the soil.
