Scattered across the beach in various stages of chaos—rolling around, yelling, fighting—are his crew but not his crew, so similar and yet so, so different. They look younger, fresher, and whatthefuck there, on the deck of the Sunny just peering over the railing, he catches a flash of green—his own green hair— “Ah, fuck,” he grunts, and then immediately turns back around because no, actually, he does not want to deal with this.

Wait wait wait, the three ingredients that Metatron used for the spell that closed heaven and made the angels fall was the bow of a cupid (angels who create a love bond between two people), the heart of a Nephilim (the offspring of a human/angel coupling) and, the grace of an angel? See, one of those things is not quite like the others. I may be connecting the dots a little late but wouldn't it make sense if the last ingredient was the grace of an angel... who is in love with a human? That's why Metatron needed Castiel specifically. That's also why his little jab, "he's in love.... with humanity." was so obviously pointed. How did I not pick up on this?
