~FAMILY~

“You know what? Don’t believe me. I know what I saw and I know what I heard and I know what I felt. But don’t come crying to me when it happens to you.” She turned on her heels, slamming the front door behind her. Her mother and sister sat behind it, staring in disbelief at her actions and she knew it. She wasn’t ont to burst out like that.

She padded her way down the quiet street, kicking at pebbles as she came across them. Her mind was racing, unable to process what she’d been through just earlier. A deep sigh escaped her lips. ‘It’s not fair to them. I would question someone if they told me such a story too.’ She thought, watching as a group of birds pecked at a neighbors yard. ‘I should apologize.’

Her brown eyes looked back at her home, body growing tense. She shook her head, returning to her walk. ‘No, not yet. I can’t be there right now. That thing will come back if I am.’

It wasn’t until well after dark that she slipped back into her warm home, silently tip toeing across the building to her room. Regardless of what she saw, regardless of what she experienced, these two people were her family. To her, family was worth more than anything, and she’d be damned if she was going to lose them to something they couldn’t even see.

~Battery Operated~

With a grunt, she tossed her dead iPod onto her bed, flopping down in her chair. “Damn thing has a shitty ass battery.” She muttered, turning herself to face her desk. Half written stories littered the space, doodles on the edges on each one. Carelessly she shoved them aside, eyes drifting up to her magnet boards. Pictures from when she was a child were held there, as well as photos of past pets and family members.

She didn’t realize it, but she drifted into thought, unaware of the area around her. A smile played across her chapped lips as she removed one in particular, chuckling softly under her breath at the memory. The young woman reached across her desk, pulling a fresh sheet of paper from an old notebook and her favorite pen. Quietly, she hummed to herself as she scribbled across the sheet, slowly filling it with words of past times.

Time passed by, and before her sat pages of an untold story, just waiting to be thrown into the world. Pleased with herself, she placed the picture back where it belonged and moved her tired body to her bed. Besides her, the blue iPod she had been so upset with just earlier laid, still cold and dead. “I guess I didn’t need those lousy prompts anyways. Who would’ve thought a little battery operated computer could’ve made me so upset.”
