Character Interview: Prince Collin ❤️
Welcome to the second character interview in an ongoing series!
Today we sat down with Prince Collin Ga’vaan to get his thoughts on questions sent in by fans of The Eternal Library…
Enjoy the excerpt below, and be sure to check out my Patreon for the full interview, which is available for free!
What kind of ruler would you like to be?
Fair. Just. Benevolent. Peaceful when possible and more than capable of defending the kingdom at need.
I don’t wish for the crown. It is a weight I’d prefer someone else carry, but the responsibility has come to me and I will wield it in the name of Minare’s citizens.
I’m only beginning to understand how many things need to be managed in order for the kingdom to thrive, but I know a lot of good people. These lands are ours to share. If we work together, I expect we can accomplish miracles.
What is your opinion on the Fae?
My opinion is ever evolving. I was taught to be wary of Fae, but the more I learned about them through the years, seeking out Minare’s Fae in the high forests of Crost, the more I yearn to make allies of them. Now, one of my closest comrades is a Fae-blooded Kitherin. I am intrigued by Fae and mages of all sorts, and drawn to the vast potential of magic.
Do you have a secret talent or hidden hobby?
Does magic count? My magic is subtle compared to the power most Fae possess, and nothing compared to the Kitherin, but mine nonetheless. I have kept it hidden all my life, but for a few close friends and my tutors, Master Tyne and Master Leonz.
And now my Tian friend knows…
You said you had been noticing the MC for years. Other than chance injury, what has endeared you to the MC so suddenly, and, given all that’s happening, are you in a good headspace for a romantic partnership and what are the depths of your feelings?
Ah, the mystery of the Tian. We grew up together, if you can call it that when my duties and the MC’s were so different, but we have seen each other countless times over the years. When we met in the library a few weeks before the incident with the door, I was happy to insist MC take the book to finish the story. It was a good book, meant to be shared with more than myself, my siblings, and whatever nobles may have picked it up.
When we collided in the hallway my world changed. Sharing my meager abilities in an attempt to heal the damage I caused sparked something in my magic. Something in my soul. I can’t explain it, but when we’re near there’s a kind of call. A resonance I cannot ignore.
Am I in a good headspace for a romantic partnership? [laughter] Why wouldn’t the Weaver send me one more wave to ride through the chaos? In all truth, I’ve been yearning for a closeness that transcends lust and reaches into something real.
What is life without love? It is nothing. Every story I read speaks of it, and I have longed for it all my life. My magic tells me this is true. If the MC chooses to love me, I will love with my whole heart, my being. My soul. If the MC chooses friendship, my loyalty will be as steadfast as time.
We have work to do together. I know that with certainty.
✨ Collin ✨
If you'd like to hear more from Prince Collin, read the full post for free:
I hope you enjoyed this Interview with a Prince!
I have a growing collection of character interviews on my Patreon if you’d like to read more. You’ll find the public interviews with Temphesta and Prince Collin there, as well as a chance to learn more about Angelina, Sevitas, and Dorian. Over the next few weeks I’ll have interviews coming out with Gemma, Marienna, Prince Petre of Trillivum, and Prince La’rast. Those are already written and scheduled for Patreon subscribers at Royal Guard tiers and higher. Getting to know the characters better gave me some great ideas for future chapters!
I've also just updated the Patreon demo of The Eternal Library with the full rescue path of chapter five! That will be released to the public in a month or so, but is now available to all paid subscribers!
Thanks for reading! I hope you have a fabulous rest of your weekend!

The Prologue of the Great Rewrite is out!
165k words of the actual game
27k of the Relationships tab
5k of the Codex Tab.
In total, the demo has 197k words of content.
Including lines of code, meaning stat descriptions included?
213,184 words.
All full of mostly new content.
It's uh... a really long prologue!
The Prologue will run you from birth to 14 years of age, ending to set us up nicely for the Upbringing Arc, of which you've heard me talk about and will see more information about at the end of the game.
The Relationships and Codex tabs are unlocked near the end of the prologue, so make sure you don't forget to check them out!
Again, as always, thank you so much for your patience and kindness throughout this endeavor. Every single one of you are valued and welcome, and have played a part in this project. <3
Play the demo here, and talk about it here with others!
After this goes live, I begin work on the Upbringing Arc! If you want to keep up with progress, and maybe support me and be a beta tester, join the Patreon!
Even as Free Folk, you get access to many articles!
I dunno, thought I was gonna say more, but I've been keeping you guys abreast with progress reports that you should know by now everything ive done lol. If you dont, check out the Patreon, those reports are still there and viewable. It's, uh, alot.

"How exactly will the politics route differ based on gender?"
That was a question asked by someone recently on the forums, and specifically, the question is about after the Prologue is released.
The Upbringing Arc will deal with three main routes.
Princess goes south with Adelina, Prince goes west with Remiel, Squire goes north with Uriel.
This will provide three different routes with three different casts of characters with three sets of overarching problems we need to resolve.
Basically, our 14th year on Nareth is a big one where lots of shit is happening at once.
But you can only be at one place while the other two fires resolve themselves.
If we decide to go through the Prince Route
We accompany Remiel to the west and see what the issue is over in Silverhill and the mining production. Why has it stalled? That’s a crisis in the making and requires the Old King coming down from the north against the V’era to remedy. He brings along the Page retinue of our father, while he takes the Squires with him up north.
We meet Veriel and Lucina here, though we wont see them much. Also, this is the route many of you will be familiar with in previous versions, combining both the original and 300k versions together while tweaking many things. (Visit and travel to Silverhill+Malenos town and the unrest)
If we decide to go through the Princess Route
We accompany Mama Adelina to the south with the rest of the ladies-in-waiting since the tensions in the south have risen to the point the Queen has to visit to calm the region with hands-on governance.
As such, we visit the courts of the southern duchies and try to help mom mediate the growing unrest between the Duchies of Caerlion, Blackrun, and Ulfram. These southern duchies are known for being more “civilized” and courtly than the others, and the reason our mother has to personally come is because Blackrun and Ulfram produce the majority of the food in the kingdom, and Caerlion and Blackrun ships it.
A disruption in the supply chain/kingdom logistics would be devastating for the progress our parents have made, thus requiring her physical presence to control the situation and ducal houses.
If we decide to go through the Squire Route
War, war never changes…
Our father arrives with the Squires in tow and his retinue, to forcibly pacify the region once total war breaks out. Only thing ill spoil from what ive said previously, is that the inspiration here will be Caesar in Gaul.
Here, we’ll see the Awakened and Blessings at work/in-conflict, and realize why our father has tried so hard to keep the peace through the years.
It’s supposed to be a huge tone shift from the Prince/Princess routes, and reveal more about our father as he takes center stage, and shows why exactly Imperial Prince Gareth is cautious about unnecessarily provoking him.
We fight alongside our father, and get a glimpse of the man that swiftly brought an end to the Lymarkian War. I actually can’t wait to show what a peace-loving man forced to war means in pragmatic reality.
While we fight, and inevitably win, the main issue at play here is that we directly influence just how similar the War in the North mirrors Caesar in Gaul.

Some update news; It's coming soon!
Someone DM'd me and told me the post i shared this with doesnt make it obvious that i edited lol, so here's a fresh one, my bad!
Because I already posted about the public release new on COG forums here, ill just share it on tumblr as well lol
Some good news for you, the release is now expected in a single week rather than weeks now!
Here’s a lil peek into the rapid pace ive been at since the end of last month lmfao
I think ima keep doing these quick dev notes at the start since they help remind me im actually making progress lololol Sometimes when working at a choice tree you can feel stuck, especially if you try making deep branch paths in there.
So like the image says, my patreons get the small recodex (more like a glossary tbh) tomorrow, and while they nibble on that ill go over the game a few more times and look for any last mistakes, errors, bugs, etc and then add in the last bit of art i had commissioned before launching to the public!
Now that we’re here however, I would like to apologize to everyone for the rough and long journey so far. Thank you for your patience and support, truly.
What i had planned originally would have made the entire game poorly paced with an incoherent narrative/plotline. Then I tried mending it with the first rewrite, and realized I half-assed it, leading to the second current rewrite. That was excruciatingly painful to do.
But I feel it was worth it. It gave me back my confidence as a writer.
The upcoming public update consists of the Childhood Arc (that I am now going to refer to as the Prologue) that sets the foundation up for the rest of the story with planted seeds that will come explosively into play in the future. Many of the events in the future will stem from the seeds here, and itll be fun watching readers find them.
This single fucking section (which was planned to be splattered all throughout the game in the previous versions) has finally been conquered. All the hinting nods, seeds, and “back-of-the-scenes” movements made by characters throughout the world in KaE are done HERE in the Prologue. The world and characters are at last firmly established. You get a hint of the brutality if you go one route, you get a hint of the politics and logistics if you go the other. Much of the worldbuilding is done far more naturally and smoothly. I am satisfied at last.
But again, and I must reiterate; this is the prologue and it is over 160k words. That’s a LONG FUCKING PROLOGUE LMFAO
Okay, time to be technical.
With the command lines, meaning plus the words on the choices themselves for example, it is 162,053 words of content for the stuff you actually play.
Without the command lines, we have 147,598 words of content.
If I include the Relationships tab and all the other lines of code i made for our stat descriptions?
206,133
With this new arc we’re heading into, like ive said multiple times, is when we finally take active stage in the story. I am so freaking excited to begin this with yall!
But the childhood stuff had to be done. The “boring” part is finally over with this. Ihate to call it boring since i put so much heart into it, but im a realist and understand some folks may just wanna get to the cool stuff. Never ever shall i make the mistake of doing baby reincarnation and/or making us the royal heir cause I am not a good enough writer to pull it off.
But forget that. Right now, Im here to tell you the cool stuff is now coming.

After the public is out, i will focus on the Upbringing Routes one at a time.
Squire/Prince/Princess.
Squire will be started and worked on first until completion because it is a unisex route, and also because its probably the most traditionally “fun” of the routes. In it, we go to the north with our father and his retinue to quell unrest with the wild tribes and our people, until inevitably it devolves into total war in the north. There, we begin our martial journey and showcase the skills that’ll one day force the world to submit to our prowess.
But for now, we’re still young and have much to learn. Our enemies will never have a better chance to kill us… and yet theyll still fail. Or at least, YOU have to make sure they fail!
The Prince/Princess Routes on the other hand, will be more of a political thriller as the ducal families of the south try to one up one another and take power, influence, and land from one another. We’ll work with our mother to ensure civil war doesnt happen while pops is up in the north.
Alright, thats enough of that lol
Again, thank you all for the continued support!

My Keyboard Has Passed, And I Am In Mourning.
My mechanical high rise keyboard... has finally broken...
I am currently working with a cheap plastic low rise one and... oh god my fingers are out of place.
They're in unknown waters.
They dont know how far to extend, how light or hard to press so that magic can come out...
Even the sound the new keyboard makes when I press is different.
I miss my old keyboard.
I need to know how badly a keyboard change impacts other writers. Cause im pretty damned impacted right now.

GIVE ME A CHANCE TO REAAAAAAAAD!!!!!
The Eternal Library Demo Update! 🎉
The intrigue in The Eternal Library is getting so good! 🎉
I’m about halfway through The Rescue side of chapter five and excited to share my progress with you! 💃
✨ I’ve just updated the public demo with some juicy new content!
✨ I’ve also added a little extra to the Patreon demo that gives subscribers a gasp-worthy drop of drama that isn’t available yet to the public. I’m not sure how I’ll write myself out of this one, so members get to watch as I figure it out. 😆
Chapter five progress is ongoing. The Treasury path is currently sitting at 11k words and The Rescue path is 30k words long. I’m working on finishing The Rescue version of this chapter first, but it’s shaping up to be a long one!
In this demo update you get:
Two paths for chapter five, partially written.
An adventure at sea.
Optional moments of intimacy.
Lots of time with Dorian and company.
So much intrigue.
Atmosphere galore.
A new character who might be an RO in a future story. 👀
As always, if you find bugs or typos please let me know. I believe I’ve addressed any issues reported thus far.
Massive gratitude to my Patreon supporters, to those of you who share my posts, and to everyone who is following along as I write this story! 🙌

Hello! I just saw your work, and now I'm going to start reading it… it looks exciting! I've read all the ROS and each one has seemed spectacular, but I'm leaning towards the men. Could you tell me how long the ROS are? Thanks!
What... what do you mean by long?
Thank you for the kind words though!

100% agree!
Also, I really love After Dark, I recommend it to anyone looking for some zombie stories!
Made a review about it months ago, and I cant wait to play again to see what's changed!
You gave us 'too many choices' but... how many choices is too many choices? :)
Well, if we want to talk about numbers, there are:
529 choices in After Dark
120 choices in The In-Between
105 choices in A Long Weekend
A Long Weekend has already been published, while The In-Between has mostly small differences that won't affect much of the whole storyline. After Dark, on the other hand, has whole scenes and branches that are accessible only if you make specific choices, and they are quite complex by themselves.
By the way, this is just one of the challenges of writing After Dark. You have so many side things to do in the game, and they're all quite tricky to code!
A couple of examples: the mobile games and the card game.
This is the time it'd take you to read the card game file from start to finish. Note that I'm talking only about the actual playing scene mechanics, excluding everything else card-related (like the guidebook, or the list of cards). It has 3,229 commands.
The mobile games file is shorter, luckily! And yet...
It still has 884 commands!
So yeah, what I mean is that coding an interactive story is lots of work. A Long Weekend and The In-Between are easier than After Dark, but I can assure you that every single IF out there is lots of work. Writing a traditional novel is taxing already (I've got a few books published so I know what I'm talking about, I promise), but IFs are basically novels on steroids.
Be extra kind to IF authors, please!

Duchy of Alesa, demesne of the Great House Morven.
House Morven has familial ties with the royal house through your paternal grandfather's mother.
Proud, with a family history that is ancient enough to almost rival that of House Argent itself, they are also by far the most traditional of the northern ducal houses.
This means their loyalties and enmities are ironclad, as oaths are sworn to repay every favor and slight.
A recent tragedy wiped almost half of the ducal house when V'era attacked them.
Duke Alexel Morven, Lord Sorenel Visdriasel, Uriel Morven, Lady Raysiel Barrodon, Calamiel Morven, Alexel Morven, and Andiel Morven all died in what is now known as the Northern Tragedy.
This event almost sparked total war between the tribes and northern duchies, and the remaining tensions have remained a constant thorn in your father's reign.
Almost all the members of their house possess blonde hair and blue eyes. They are all tall, but lithe in build.
(I wanted to put some character aesthetic pics here but holy shit Pintrest is drowning in fucking AI art slop. jfc you cant use character art from there anymore if you dont wanna support ai)
They are in the Royal Faction, though the troubles with the tribes have strained relations between the duchess and your father.
Two stand out members of House Morven:
Duchess Valindriel Morven, of Siriel. Born 576 A.L.
The Iron-Hearted Duchess. One of your father's closest friends, and politically one of his most fervent supporters. Blonde, with blue eyes and fair skin, the duchess is considered a traditional Argentian beauty. She suddenly found herself made Duchess Alesa when the Northern Tragedy claimed the lives of her husband, son, father, and sister-in-law. The duchess is now bitterly against the tribes and will side with her people in any dispute against them.
Lord Altairel Morven, Count of Fenar. Born 578 A.L.
Depressed, but functional. As one of the most eligible bachelors in the kingdom, Altairel is expected to remarry. But he has had trouble connecting with young women, and refuses to marry if there is no spark. He is now a part of the royal court and watches over his nephews and niece while looking for a bride among Queen Adelina's ladies-in-waiting. Originally one of Uriel's childhood friends, he accepted your father's request to be part of his retinue. Now, he helps mentor noble boys to become proper Argentian noblemen. Handsome, and still boyish looking, he nevertheless possesses dark circles underneath his green eyes. Still, he keeps himself and his red hair well-groomed as he tries being a role model for the boys. He dresses in traditional Argentian clothing, meaning furs and linens dyed in bright colors. Known for being a talented singer, dancer, and being able to recite poetry. Altairel is also Awakened, and uses the minor Blessing of House Morven, "Spring's Fortune".
You'll learn more about this ducal house, its members, and about other noble houses when the demo updates this month!

The eldest son of Imperial Grand Vizier Araynys Resdayn.
Voryn is the most infamous student in the academy, known for partying and making trouble; and for being rumored to be the greatest swordsman of his generation.
Many whisper that he was personally trained by the Sword Saint Wythela.
Arrogant and dismissive thanks to his talent, he regularly does as he likes.
Self-assured, independent, impulsive, and decisive.

A Kingdom's Blood now at 13 chapters!
A Kingdom’s Blood just released its 13th chapter on Royal Road.
If you enjoy character-driven fantasy, remnants of a fallen empire, ancient magic machines, and the slow rise of a hidden heir, this might be for you.
The story follows Cesar, a young hunter in a cliffside town perched above a sea of clouds. A sudden discovery leaves a town devastated and sets off a chain of events that could reignite a war thought long over.
Expect classic action adventure, tension, rune magic, collapsing systems of faith, and the burdens of legacy.
Chapters are released every Monday, Wednesday and Friday!
Please if you can comment, follow and support it on Royal Road! Any support helps.

The Club Meeting!--Public Demo Update
I’ve updated the public demo of Jolly Good: Tea and Scones!
Here is the link.
Chapter One is now playable all the way through the club meeting, right up until four disasters strike the club simultaneously.
If you enjoy it, please consider joining The Noble Gases Club, where you can play a much longer version of the demo (including a "cheats" DLC), read lots of musings on interactive game design, and enjoy a bunch of fiction about these characters.
