So my go-to perfume for the last however many years (Insolence by Guerlain, the eau de toilette) has just about run out. I've never actually made it through a full bottle of perfume before but I really like it and it's not so strong and heavy that I feel it's 'too much' to wear just on regular days. Today I remembered while I was ordering stuff for delivery to the drugstore (Covid tests mainly, sexy)...and it's apparently changed bottles twice in the interim, which I guess means the formulation has changed too. And even worse, it's no longer in the £20-30 range, it's £80-100!! 😭

So now I have to try to find an alternative, pay £££ for the new version (or even more for an old bottle from ebay/Mercari), or try a dupe. And of course, the department store where I bought it closed (John Lewis I miss you) so I don't even know where to look, now. I've still got my teeny bottles of Anais Anais (and that's still a reasonable price) but...it's just not as wearable.

Things should not be allowed to change. 😠 It's just mean.

Suddenly broken by the realisation that every memory from the first twenty-three years of my life is irreparably tainted now. How can I think of any of it without thinking of this? How could anything good have ever come from that place? How many of the people....

I open my mouth to scream but the wail cannot pass from my throat. Instead it fuses to every cell, bursts into every molecule of my flesh. The weight of the grief bows me in half toward the floor.

I know I am not the first or the only one to feel this. I know I am not special. I choke away my tears and stand up. This is pointless self-indulgence, unbecoming weakness. It will not bring anyone back. It will not prevent anything. But for this moment it is my whole world and I am crushed beneath it.
