Canon Changes from LoK - B1E3
Here is a fully comprehensive list of the changes from The Legend of Korra.
Book 1 : Episode 3
- The running gag in The Last Airbender was that all animals are hybrids aside from one very special bear. Due to there not being a super huge list of all the hybrid animals not seen in the main series I created pro-bending teams that have regular animal names. Some are hybrids though. If anyone wants to submit team name ideas that’s always welcome, any of fire, air, water, earth, or four element teams are nice.
- I don’t know how much of this detailed episode by episode summary of changes I’ll keep up. Probably group a lot of them together.

Canon Changes from LoK - B1E2
Here is a fully comprehensive list of the changes from The Legend of Korra.
Book 1 : Episode 2
- Since airbending isn’t apart of the pro bending scene it’s weird for Tenzin to be so adamant that she not go when it’s not like she’ll learn bad techniques for the other three elements that she has already mastered. This was just something I’ve always thought was odd- not like a major flaw.
- For Taiyang’s purposes pro bending is still a mainstream thing however, there are no uniform rules and the protective padding seen in real world sports would not be included. They would each dress in the colors and clothes of their element (air being yellow).
- Earthbending is also extremely limited in the pro bending arena and the physical layout of the arena will be changed to allow for more than just throwing discs. The new arenas would be actual playing fields, think of how if you’ve ever watched the anime Pokemon when they have battle tournaments the field sometimes changes to add different landscapes.
- Not following the Harmonic Convergence in end of Book 2, the population of airbenders is growing due to the natural bending ability being born into people. Not a sudden abundance of people gaining airbending. Due to this the airbending pro teams are very small in numbers.

Canon Changes from LoK - B1E1
Here is a fully comprehensive list of the changes from The Legend of Korra.
Book 1 : Episode 1
- For me it would have been more desirable to see Korra without the mastery of water, earth and fire. I understand that since Aang’s journey was three seasons of him learning the elements they did not want to rehash that all again just with Korra so instead they made her a physical prodigy.
- As pointed out by one of the masters, Korra isn’t really spiritual in the sense of connecting to the elements. I am fine with this in the beginning. Later when she looses her bending I wish they would have had her go through relearning them but actually traveling to learn from their cultures and improve her spirit self. Having everything brought to her on a silver platter in the South Pole would of course make her not very in-tune with the heritage and customs of each element.
- I greatly hate how the world advanced to such an extreme degree in the technological sense. It is an interesting concept and visually cool but I don’t personally like it and wish they hadn’t modernized (NYC) Republic City to such an extent. For mine the city is huge and multicultural but no where near as advanced.
- The idea of non-benders leading a revolution for being oppressed is something reasonable and has actual weight. However, we haven’t see any benders really oppressing the non-benders to where they have to live as second class citizens. Aside from the criminals who only exist to be the bad guys, the rest of the bending population have not been shown to be doing anything. Yeah Korra falls into the trap and shows her immaturity but there isn’t much else shown.

Update
Now that both Avatar the Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra are available on Netflix I will be rewatching them to better connect Taiyang’s arc to their previously existing narratives. There will be a future post about the exact detailed canon changes from LoK (I love many aspects of the show but I also greatly despise many other components of it).
My university begins term this upcoming week and the vast majority of my classes are entirely online so I feel that there will be more time (and hopefully motivation) to write out full chapters of Taiyang’s story!
I would like to sincerely thank all of you who follow along for your patience and appreciation for this blog and forthcoming story.

Is this blog still active?
Yeah- I have fleeting amounts of productivity that come in awkward waves so this is on the back burner. Definitely not dead or abandoned.

Would you be open to fans submitting their OCs?
Yes, that’s wonderful.
Take some time to read the blog posts to see what’s already been made and maybe how things could be factored into the pre-existing characters and events. Collaborations are always fine.

Power in firebending comes from the breath. Not the muscles. The breath becomes energy in the body. The energy extends past your limbs and becomes fire!

Canon Changes from LoK
With the series arrival of Avatar the Last Airbender on Netflix I have started to rewatch all three seasons to focus more on that world setting than in the Legend of Korra. While these major canon changes listed below could fill their own fanfic story it’s not what I want to focus on- more so just to provide a proper background.
At the end of Season 1- when Amon takes Korra’s bending away she had yet to learn air so lucky for her that was a saving grace. The way she unlocks air is problematic to me as it was not spiritual and it was just Korra throwing a punch down a hallway in the attempts to save Mako and herself from Amon. For me personally I feel there is room to say that Korra should not be able to bend anything after Amon did the thing, regardless of that she had not formally learned airbending- she still had the capabilities to bend it (see Aang when he was playing with fire prior to learning earth and burned Katara). In this canon change Korra had her chi blocked to all the elements and then the next season would focus on her relearning the elements. In the very last episode Korra could still call Aang and her other past lives but they would not restore her bending AND unlock the Avatar State for her. That makes Korra unbelievably overpowered.
Season 2- for me this is my least favorite season. I generally disregard it entirely (aside from the Water Tribes civil war and a few other things). Now that Korra cannot bend water, earth, fire, and air she has to go about relearning the elements. Not so much the physical movement aspects as she knows those- this is about the cultural heritage of each element. While she was living in the Southern Tribe the White Lotus just brought teachers to her- Korra never went on a great journey or saw first hand the other element’s lifestyles. It makes a great deal of sense for why she lacks the spiritual appreciation for bending when all she’s ever known is these master benders coming to her doorstep and teaching her fighting moves. Korra does not open the spirit world portal and I do not recognize Raava/Vaatu and such in this fanfic. The Water Tribe civil war continues. Korra begins a journey where she travels the world in the attempts to restore her bending and chi paths- lots of personal growth here. Maybe even try to find another bloodbender to reverse what Amon did.
Season 3- since there is now no Harmonic Convergence there is not a sudden abundance of airbenders popping up out of nowhere. As much as I would like to see the full restoration of the Air Nomads that will unfortunately take generations. The introduction of the Air Acolytes is something I will continue to keep, the airbenders were all benders due to their high spirituality. With enough time and dedication to the lifestyle it is possible that airbenders could be born again from non-benders around the Air Temples (though rare and would certainly take years / Katara was born to non-benders). The Red Lotus can still break out of prison to try and capture Korra again- just no airbending for Zaheer. By this time it would seem reasonably for Korra to have regained her bending through spiritual growth and now has the capabilities for airbending- no Avatar State yet.
Season 4- There’s no giant mechasuit destroying Republic City. Kuvira can pretty much stay as she is with creating an Earth Empire. It becomes Korra’s responsibility to stop this and Kuvira soon wants the entire world. By the end of this season Korra could have unlocked the Avatar State and bending all four elements.

Antagonists in the World
Avatar Aang primarily had to deal with the tyrannical rule of Fire Lord Ozai and the global oppression by the Fire Nation. The element of fire was the commonly used enemy as seen through Zuko, Azula, Ozai, Zhao, Combustion Man, and countless Fire Nation soldiers and others affiliated.
Avatar Korra in turn had to deal with hardly any firebending villains. Her main foes were Amon (non-bender / waterbender), Unalaq (waterbender), Zaheer (airbender), and Kuvira (earthbender).
Avatar Hao wasn’t able to overcome any antagonist as he was taken out before really accomplishing anything. His death serves as a catalyst for people to stop believing in the avatar (thus causing Taiyang problems as Aang and Korra were pretty much worshiped in their time and revered as gods basically).
Avatar Taiyang will start with smaller not necessarily ‘evil’ people to deal with, rather other pro-bending team rivalries, as well as the world starting to publicly shun the Avatar since many believe the cycle ended with Hao (and that it was a good thing). Her main struggles will be internal and dealing with feelings of unwanted, unworthy, and unable to help others as the Avatar has done before.
I am also wanting to implement the exposure of the Sun Warriors to the rest of the world and Taiyang balancing (or struggling to) the life of a pro-bender while secretly being the Avatar. Something like superheros with their alternate alias. There is also the idea of Taiyang learning the elements not from people but from the originals benders of each - flying bison, moon and ocean, and badgermoles.
Taiyang will face obstacles with the traditional issues such as learning the four elements, mastering the avatar state, dealing with her identity, and other enemies who believe the Avatar should no longer exist.
There isn’t a huge war going on like Aang, there aren’t different regimes of ruling like Korra had to face, and Hao was just getting started before he was robbed of the opportunity to bring about prosperity. However, this post could change or be altered potentially to suit the story narrative.
Ozai = world dominance through tyrannical dictatorship  Amon = equality through persecution with communism ideology Unalaq = spirituality through destruction with theocracy ideology Zaheer = freedom through chaos with anarchism ideology Kuvira = order through submission with fascism ideology

Who's the villain for Taiyang? Like how Aang's was clearly Ozai and Korra had Amon, Tonraq, Zaheer, and Kuvira.
I haven’t come to a decisive conclusion yet on who is the ‘villain’. There will be several antagonists, I like the concept of one main character who opposes the Avatar like how we all knew Ozai was the ‘big bad’. But it is also enjoyable to have multiple antagonists for Taiyang and others to deal with.
Part of this is trying to come up with a unique name for the new ‘evil’ organization, I have thought of the Black Lotus (but that’s very close to Red Lotus from LOK S3) as some general anti-avatar movements.
The whole world will seemingly come to agree that they do not need the avatar. Taiyang will become dismayed at her existence and undergo dark thoughts of if she is really worthy of being the Avatar and if the world truly does need her.
Also I think you mean Unalaq instead of Tonraq.

I was wondering when you were going to actually post the full story, aside from blog content there isn't much tbh...
Well now that my university is on hiatus I have a lot more free time, so hopefully soon. It really just varies with the school work that professors are assigning now to make up for lack of face to face classes.
I have posted some chapter excerpts from two of the point of view characters- Taiyang and Kodah. I haven’t decided on the final number of POV characters nor who exactly they will be.

The Pro-Bending Fire Team ━━  The Sun Dragons  火
Azlon, Ryota, Kwan, and Taiyang
These four were unlikely teammates. They each share firebending similarities, however, their backgrounds reflect different walks of life. Together they have a shared fascination with dragons and grow to see them and the sun as pure sources of bending (thanks to Taiyang’s influence). The team leader is Azlon, he had been on a few other four element pro-bending teams and long desired to be on a fire only team. Ryota has only ever been on pro-bending fire teams. Kwan is a fan of the sport but had never belonged to a team himself. Taiyang, well she had never heard of pro-bending much less been a fan.
Azlon, age eighteen, the oldest member of the Sun Dragons. He was born and raised in Republic City to two firebenders. Azlon is proud of his strong Fire Nation heritage, his name even reflects previous Fire Lords. Azlon has spent countless training sessions, years of his life, preparing for fights in the arena. He has not learned the traditional or Sun Warrior style of firebending. He only uses the modern sporting forms. Azlon is not the strongest bender on the team, however, he is devious and will operate in the morale grey zone to achieve his goals. He has great skills in strategy, assessing opponents, and manipulating the situation to suit his needs. He is highly selective and likes to monopolize his gains. Azlon is a natural leader and seeks to win the Pro-Bending Fire Tournament.
Ryota, age seventeen, the second oldest member of the Sun Dragons. He was born and mostly raised in the Fire Nation (in Fire Fountain City). When he was fourteen he moved to Republic City where he lived a wealthy lifestyle. Both of his parents are diplomats for the Fire Nation to the United Republic. Aside from Taiyang, he is the strongest bender on the team. Ryota desires to learn the purest form of firebending and knows that the modern Pro-Bending influenced style derives from the old ways but he still seeks to learn more. Ryota is generally quiet and reserved. His personality is introverted mixed with a white-grey moral compass.
Kwan, age sixteen, the third oldest member of the Sun Dragons. He has had a troubled life- often plagued with times of hunger and anger. In his childhood he had to resort to thievery to avoid starvation for him and his younger siblings. Kwan’s father was a firebender and his mother a non-bender. They would often leave Republic City to sell their merchandise, having Kwan run their small shop. They would typically only be gone for a week or two at most to reach other traders and return with money and special goods. One day they didn’t come back, leaving their three children to fend for themselves. Eventually the kids couldn’t run the shop anymore and were cast out into the streets. Since then Kwan has had to defend them and try to earn a living in the Pro-Bending Arena. Generally he is overly defensive, always worried, black-grey moral compass, and has developed many acrobatic skills.
