circle casting 🕯
a simple guide to casting a circle 🕯—
— circles have two primary uses in magic — protection of the practitioner from unwanted energy, and a way to contain the energy and intent of the spell until the circle is broken — which fires the condensed energy of the spell outward
— a circle doesn’t need to be cast for every spell, or at all if the practitioner doesn’t deem it necessary for the magic to be effective, is low on spoons or time, etc.
how to cast a circle:
— cleanse | cleanse your space of lower energies using salt, sage, incense, holy water, or another method you prefer
— build | construct a physical representation of your circle using natural materials such as sticks, rocks, flowers, salt, dirt, etc.
alternatively, draw a circle around the space with your finger or a wand and imagine your circle
— evoke | this step will depend mostly on your belief system, but the idea is to invite a deity or an energetic being into your circle for help if you deem it necessary – a god or goddess, for example.
— cast | lastly, use a tool to direct energy such as a wand or athame (your hand is also just fine if you have neither of these) clockwise around your circle, directing energy into it, and imagine that energy growing above and below you, encasing you in a lil bubble
— you’re now ready to center yourself and get to work on your spell 🕯
how to close a circle:
— break | using whatever you originally used to direct energy into your circle, work counterclockwise back around your circle to diffuse the energy and open your bubble to send that good, good energy rocketing out into the world to deliver your intent
— dismiss | show gratitude to the deity or energy you invited into the circle to help you and dismiss them from your ritual

The Ultimate Grimoire Guide
So! I have been seeing a ton of grimoire ideas and thought I’d stuff them all together. A lot of ideas are from @manifestationsofasort, @banebite, and @pigeonflavouredcake. Check them out! They have a ton of cool stuff there.
What Do I Use For My Grimoire?
You can use anything for a grimoire! For a physical one, journals, binders, and notebooks are good. For digital ones, Notion, Tumblr, Docs, and even just your file folder are great.

Things to put in your book of shadows
Of course, only put in your book of shadows/grimoire what you want. If you don't want to put certain subjects in your book then that's fine. It's your book, utilize it how you want. This is just a masterlist of ideas that I've put together. Feel free to add anything else to the list that I may have missed, because there's absolutely no way I included everything.
And for the love of all the gods, if you come across a closed entity or practice, don't try to work with the entity or practice if you're not already part of that group or tradition. You can research it but don't practice it.

⏳ Restarting Spell ⏳
a ritual for fresh starts, to remove old energies, and invite new ones in
Tumblr media
⏳  to be done at the end of the year, midnights, or the end of each month
⏳  gather: a white candle, salt, two pages, and a fire-safe surface
⏳  write about, or in a sigil, represent the aspects you want to shake off
⏳  on the second page, write the things you wish to usher in.
⏳  place the positive one under the candle, and draw a circle of salt around the candle. burn the negative note.
⏳  if you plan to repeat the ritual, use the back of the positive note to collect the negativities for when you burn it later.
⏳  to do in a group ritual, arrange the candles in a circle or mark all pages with a unifying sigil

my marijuana witchcraft. 💚🌳🪖🐸🪲🐛🐢🐍🦎🦖🐊🍁
Tumblr media
being a stoner for quite some time, i have come up with my own witchy ways to smoke to enhance the effect and feel more thoughtful within each session.
my favourite way to prepare for my session, is yoga. uplifting your energy and getting the blood flowing. use your hands to push all the negativity away.
ground yourself by finding your comfy spot. sit how ever you like to sit. with a drink, some snacks, a fully charged device, maybe a TV or stereo, dimmed lighting, a blanket etc. if you like, enchant every item that assists you during your session with enhancing and relaxing good energy. you can bring crystals like adventurine, amethyst, rose quartz, tourmaline, kyanite, moonstone. these all have protective and positivity properties.
when grinding or chopping it up, send your positive intentions into the weed. stir/turn it clockwise, stir it anticlockwise as many times, and then 3 times each. if using a coffee grinder, press the button 3 times more to seal the intent.
if you use a bong, you can put a piece of clear quartz inside it. (best if its a tumble). gently swish the water in a clockwise motion to invoke positivity, and then swish it anticlockwise to banish negativity. (moonwater is epic for this too!!)
when you light the cone, stir the flame clockwise too!
inhale the good shit, exhale the bullshit. feel the elements air, fire, water, earth and spirit flowing through you inside your lungs, feel it cleanse you of your negative thoughts and anything negative you’ve absorbed throughout the day. feel the moonwater and quartz charge you for the best high. then exhale everything out. imagining the smoke creating a huge bright white sphere of protection enveloping yourself and your space. 🌬
repeat as many times as you like hehe.
time to be content with your enhanced vibrations. its time to chill out, vibe, let yourself be you.
happy smoking!!!

do you have any tips on how to start studying witchcraft? i’m totally new and don’t know what to do:(
Tumblr media
☁︎ 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐜𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭
Tumblr media
hi, lovely, thank you for asking! i wish you all the luck in the world in your studies. here are a few tips from me.
Tumblr media
ideas for how to start studying:
read. when i first started studying witchcraft, tumblr was my only resource because i couldn’t really go out and buy witchy resource books. however, i have a solution for that. this is a link to a cite that allows you to download books for free. yes, it works and it’s safe. guests can download five books per 24 hours, but if you create a free account you can download more. they have lots of books on witchcraft on here—but not all of them. there are also some tumblr posts floating around that have free pdfs of witchy books as well, so keep an eye out for that.
watch youtube videos. there are lots of vloggers out there who make instructional videos on witchcraft, especially at the beginner level. they have videos on all sorts of topics—like things you should research as a baby witch, how to compile a grimoire/book of shadows, how to cast spells, etc.
know that everyone who shares how-tos about witchcraft is biased. yes, even me. what works for me may not work for you. and what works for you may not work for the most revered witch on youtube. that’s okay. you’re not doing anything wrong. follow your intuition and allow it to guide you. that’s the principle here on my blog. i prefer to post about diy witchcraft or do-it-yourself witchcraft, meaning i want to encourage witches to sit down and craft their own information rather than regurgitating someone else’s. however, that might not be your cup of tea. you might not have an issue with the consensus’s definition of magick, and that’s cool. just be sure, as you’re studying magick, you’re able to (1) recognize that you’re learning from one person’s experience and (2) discern whether or not those experiences will work for you.
write notes. anything that jumps out to you when you’re reading or watching videos you should write down. when you’re new, a lot of information will seem enticing, and you want to absorb it all like a big sponge. there’s nothing wrong with that. but, what makes it wrong is when you start to dread or feel uncomfortable by something. for me, personally, i never liked the idea of making my magick religious, and not for lack of trying! everyone and their grandmother on witchblr seemed pagan, so i thought something must be wrong with me if i’m not. i tried to worship deities, but i always felt stupid when i did it because i didn’t believe. i even tried incorporating christianity into witchcraft, but that didn’t feel right either. eventually, i decided i wouldn’t make my craft religious. it does make things frustrating when i’m reading a book, and it’s chock-full of wiccan rituals or pagan spells, but i’ll still read it because the book may cover a topic i’m interested in. tldr; feel comfortable in the idea of taking some information and leaving the rest.
rewrite your notes. the first time you write, i would recommend putting it in a cheap/old notebook where you can be as messy as you want. once you finish, go back, reread, cut out things you think you’ll never use, and rewrite your notes. (preferably in your own words, but i understand that can be difficult.) now, you can choose to rewrite these in your grimoire or a different notebook. doesn’t matter. what you’re doing here is teaching yourself discernment and critical thinking. when you start to cut things out, you’re narrowing it down to the types of magick you do want to practice. (of course, this can change over time, but it’s a good place to start.)
don’t wait to practice until you know everything. because that will literally never happen. there will be a point when you realize everyone teaching these baby witch tips is regurgitating the same information over and over again. that is the point (actually, it’s well past the point) that you need to close tumblr and start practicing. because, at that point, the only person you can learn from is yourself. in practicing your magick you can find out what really works for you, and what’s excessive. don’t feel guilty about cutting down your craft, it’s necessary. (another personal example: i don’t have an altar. I did at the beginning, but it became useless to me over time, so i cut it out of my craft.) start practicing the little things—such as grounding and cleansing—early on. it’s okay if you forget what to do or nothing happens, you’re learning.
use yourself as a resource. yup, i’m back on my diy witchcraft bullshit. i’m going to post about this soon, but you need to use yourself as a resource. you might be thinking, “nan, how the hell do i do that when i’m new?!” well, i’ll tell you. correspondences. there are hundreds of posts about them on tumblr—color correspondence, crystal correspondence, fabric correspondence, moon phase correspondence—are all meaningless if you disagree. see, the color red is commonly associated with love and lust, so witches stress to use a red candle when performing that type of magick. well, what if you think red represents creativity? then go with your meaning. wow, i know, that’s a radical thought, but seriously it personalizes your craft and brings you closer to it.

Beginner Witch Shopping List
Tumblr media
- Crystals
Some crystals that are great for beginner and are used for many different purposes are amethyst, clear quartz, rose quartz, lapis lazuli, and tourmaline. However, in no way do you need to buy all or any of these. If you only want to get one I would recommend clear quartz as your first one.
     2. - Something for divination
A tarot card deck, pendulum, or etc. For free you can just use a necklace that you have a pendulum just cleanse it before you use it as a pendulum and you can just print or draw your own pendulum board on paper.
     3. - Journal or notebook
If you don’t want to write your grimoire on paper you can use google docs or, what I recommend, notion.so. Online grimoires are perfect for perfectionists who have hard time writing down their grimoire and making it look neat. In no way does your grimoire need to look pretty or perfect it just about whatever works for you.
      4. - Candles
You can find small tea light for cheap at the dollar store of Walmart. If you have spells planned then you can buy specific colored candles for whatever spells you are doing. For the cheapest option you cane even use birthday candles.
      5. - Whatever fun things you want
Cheap jars for spells from Walmart or the dollar store, herbs, salt, tea, or etc. Also Etsy sells really cute stuff like witch kits for beginners but they can be kinda pricey.
*Just to let you know, in no way do you need to buy anything to practice witchcraft there are plenty of alternatives to nearly everything.*
