Bucky and Cats
Okay, so a few years back (2015/2016) I saw a piece of fanart that featured Bucky and a small black kitten, which inspired me to write a fic.
It took place a few months before and then right after ca:cw, and started when Bucky noticed a small, sickly looking black kitten following him home. Anyway, he took it home and fed it and kept it safe, and then the kitten basically refused to leave his side. He named it Shadow and liked that it kind of reminded him of one Steve Rogers. He talked to the kitten almost all the time and it was all really cute (you’ll just have to take my word for it)
And then when Steve shows up, followed by all of those (were they police?, whatever) Shadow still refuses to leave, which stresses Bucky the fuck out.
And the rest takes place after civil war, and Bucky thinks the kitten died, and he’s really upset about it. Until Natasha (because she’s awesome and deeply cares about her friends) manages to find Shadow and bring him to Wakanda for Bucky.
Nat: *pretending to be indifferent* here’s your stupid cat, you can stop moping now
Bucky: *on the verge of tears and visibly confused* how the hell could you have possibly known
And it’s a happy-ish ending
(Anyway, I’m posting it here because I lost the fic when my old laptop started having some software issues, and seeing those newer comics where Bucko has a cat made me remember it)

This video is better than any trailer disney’s gonna put out, I guarantee it
This version of the trailer has me on the floor laughing. The way they were acting matched well with the personalities of the actors and the characters.

The marvel fandom is one that can often be under some pretty heavy criticism, and I really do get it. They destroy character development left right and center, they’re treatment of women is often subpar, and let’s not even start on Gay Joe Russo.
I have been involved in marvel fandom for about nine years now (not under this blog) so I’ve seen it’s ups and downs. And I just thought I share some of my feelings about healing. When I started in this fandom specifically, I was like 12. I was just beginning my struggles with mental health and all other forms of teen angst that start up around that time.
Fanfiction proved to be an unexpected but extremely useful outlet for how I was feeling. I read a lot of angsty fics, I was hooked. I think that these helped me to experience the emotions I was feeling but was able to put them into a new context that didn’t involve me. That was something both freeing and validating.
However, angst fics don’t offer a lot of time for development or for a lot of healing. It’s experiencing the same pain over and over again, which eventually turned out to be a pretty harmful cycle for my younger self.
One great option for marvel fanfic readers is the 2012-ish tower aus. They usually are able to get most of the favorite characters in them, have some time for character development and healing (plus movie night chapters are always super cute). It enables creators to trap our favs in timeless bubbles, work out their relationships (found family is my jam), and ignore pretty much all of canon (because fuck that ending).
I still do love the occasional angsty read, but I’ve discovered the importance for myself to be able to be more critical about what I choose to consume and when, so that I can stay healthy. It’s a really hard lesson to learn, especially when you’re younger.
I hope that if you see this that you take the time to process your emotions in a more healthy manner, especially given that we’re all pretty much trapped home right now.
Stay safe friends, seek help when you need it!
