Alastor had not been explicitly confirmed aroace in canon, HOWEVER

- his VA called him aroace before backtracking and saying his being aromanticism is unknown (after the aroaces celebrated some canon aroace rep FINALLY)

- vivziepop, the creator of the show, won’t say he’s aroace because that would “ruin peoples fun” (which to me means he IS aroace but she prioritizes fan shipping over representation)

- This dialogue in season 1 episode 7 implies he is both ace and aro:

*Alastor brings Charlie to meet Rosie.*

R: “And who’s this you brought with you? Come now, Alastor, she’s much too young for you. Oh, I’m just kidding, I know you’re an ace in the hole!”

(She basically says she knows he wouldn’t be with Charlie in general because of his orientation. Highly, HIGHLY implying he is aroace)

Also Alastor being aroace fits his character as a whole very well. To me, he’s like 95% certain aro, 100% ace

Please note, I’m neither pro nor anti vivziepop. I think people are complicated and fuck up sometimes. I think it’s shitty to not confirm him being aro just because you want to prioritize the shippers (as if the shippers wouldn’t just disregard him being aro anyway), but it’s not like she’s just spewing constant hate like some other heavily criticized artists (cough cough JKR cough cough)

Idk how I feel about Viv, she's... A character. To say the least. I'm mostly just uncomfortable with how she handles a rapist character (as a rape victim myself)

As for Alastor, I think it's shitty for Viv to not just make him aroace. Like, she knows full well that her making him aroace wouldn't "ruin peoples fun" and even if it did, who cares??? Her saying that making a character aromantic would ruin peoples fun is also just... Super arophobic I think??

Whatever I guess Alastor being aro is basically confirmed but will never be confirmed within merch or the show, which is stupid as fuck but whatever

For so fucking long I've been screaming this from the rooftops but no one listens.

To defeat the patriarchy we need men to be our allies, we need men to be feminists so they can lift women up when the men in power won't listen. Now of course I'm not saying that women can't fight for equality on their own, of course they can, what I'm saying is we need our allies to protect us. Whenever you go to a protest related to POC issues, white protesters will always put themselves between police/counter protesters and POC. We (white people) protect them not because they can't defend themselves, but because they are at a social disadvantage. If they are harmed they are less likely to get medical attention, if they're arrested they have a higher risk of being incarcerated, if they are killed the police are less likely to hold anyone accountable for their death. Obviously this is an extreme comparison but you understand the point, right? We need men to be shields for women so women can fight for their rights while remaining safe. Shit talking men, being rude/nasty to men simply because they're men, etc. that doesn't make them want to help you. That's not feminism. Switching the roles of oppressor and the oppressed isn't fighting for equality, that's not feminism. Feminism is fighting for all of us, regardless of gender, to be treated equally. Feminism isn't fighting to put women in the position to become their oppressors.

I only label my friendship with my "partners" as a QPR because I just want them to know how deeply I care for them. I wouldn't mind if it was labeled a friendship or best friendship or whatever, QPR is a label just like a romantic relationship is, and if you don't want labels you don't need them. You're allowed to simply exist.

In my opinion as an aromantic person, I don't believe having a QPR is required to be aromantic or should be the expectation for every aro person I don't believe any sort of long term partner is required to be happy in life, and that some people (especially alloromantics) act as though having a partner to do romantic things with / "replace a romantic relationship" is needed to live a happy life, and I believe this is very amatonormative Of course having a QPR is valid, and it's valid to be aromantic and have a QPP to hold hands with and even do romantic things with without it being romantic, and a QPR isn't just a "replacement for a romantic partner" But I don't think it should be the expectation for every aromantic person, and that it's valid to not want long term partners or QPRs Friendships, best friends, family, chosen family, etc. are all valid forms of connections as well!
