So this account will stay up as a historical log of previous posts. But if you want updated content, you’ll have to follow my main blog. Disclaimer, 99% of my main blog is not writing stuff, most content will be in the fanfic tag. No pressure to go follow or anything, but the magpiewords blog will not be updated again.

Serendipity

noun. a development of events by chance in a beneficial way. College is about finding yourself, but how do you find something you haven’t defined yet? A music student and a culinary student have no reason to meet, and even less reason to become friends. Somehow, something that wasn’t meant to happen leads them to finally define what their lives will become.

Written by the talented writer @magpiewords and art by yours truly in collaboration for Reverse Bang by @do-it-with-style-events. A ineffable wives story , college au filled angst and fluff but most of all full of love and self-acceptance. Chapter 1 was just posted, hopefully you guys have time to check it out ;)

A late addition to the @augustwritingchallenge for Crime AU. So glad I got this one finished.

Did someone ask for Toni Stark tied to a chair at the Winter Soldier’s mercy? no? are you sure, cuz it’s good stuff

“Your boss wouldn’t know a good idea if it slapped her on the ass.”

“Miss Stark,” her brain must still be foggy, she didn’t have time to flinch away before cold metal gripped her chin. The Soldier’s thumb traced along her lower lip, and Toni simply let it happen, pressing further into her mouth. “That’s no way to talk.”

“I–” She started, but the finger in her mouth pressed down firmer, parting her lips.

“No no, we’re done with that now. No more small talk, no more wine.” She leaned in closer, lips brushing against the edge of Toni’s own in a parody of a tenderness. “Give me the location.”

8 - Superheroes/superpowers

So this one is hard because most of the content I read is in that genre already. But then I saw about that said “TUA fic in the style of the Avengers 2012 ‘everyone lives in the tower a la sitcom’” and I wanted to do that so badly. It was going to be inspired by the shenanigans my own sibling and I got up while we were visiting out parents.

9 - Royalty

Didn’t have a solid plan for this one. Was thinking something along the lines of Aziraphale as a prince and Crowley as some sort of theft that had been captured and brought before him. Sexual tension?? very likely.

10 - Pirates

I actually had a lot written for this one! Take the previous concept and flip it - Crowley is a pirate captain and has recently taken Aziraphale prisoner. Had theming of The Dread Pirate Roberts from Princess Bride

12 - Crime

Also had a good bit written for this. Fem!Tony Stark as a mafiosa, getting kidnapped by Roger’s rival crime group. Was actually going to be WinterIron, might have gotten smutty.

14 - Vampire

Ya know that post about “oh no im caught in the rain and the only building is this gothic castle and ooh noooo the vampire lady inside is hottt?” Yeah, I was gonna do that but Harley Quinn was a vampire (recently turned and then abandoned by the Joker) and Ivy is on the run from whatever and got lost in the rain.

15 - Role Reversal

Would have been an easy out for Good Omens (again) that I turned into TAZ (again). I got tripped up because I had no idea what to do with the plot, but I figured I was going to rewrite a boss fight from the series, except Merle was a fighter, Magnus was a abjuration wizard, and Taako was a cleric of Istus. Mostly wanted (another) excuse to write Taako bantering with Istus.

19 - 19th Century

Okay, I’m actually really made I didn’t get to post this one, but it’s actually for the best because this fic deserves more time. I have maybe 5k written? And it’s not even half done. Imagine the play 12th Night, except Kravitz is the Duke, Barry is Olivia, and Taako is pretending to be Lup since she has the qualifications needed to be the assistant Kravitz is looking for. BUT! Instead of a love rectangle or whatever, Krav is not in love with Barry. Oh no, he’s been trying to catch Barry for being a lich! And since he’s been unsuccessful, he sends “Lup” in to seduce him. Taako, having immediately fallen for Krav, is not into Barry. However, he is nice to Barry, who immediately assumes “oh, someone’s nice to me? We must be in love”. Hilarity ensues, particularly when it’s revealed that Lup is not actually dead.

22 - Futuristic AU

Another one that I wrote a ton for. It’s based on the joke post that was like “what if damnation was just timeout for demons, and god comes back to say they’re punishment is over and they become angels again”. So it’s starts pretty meme-y and god accidentally got written as a suburban midwestern mom? But I was planning on moving more into angst territory as Crowley grapples with the fact that he’s still mad at god and doesn’t think he wants to be an angel again.

I am also aware this is a suuuper loose qualification of “future AU” since it’d basically be set five years from the end of good omens canon.

23 - Arranged Marriage

Had almost nothing for this. Thought it could be interesting to do something with fem!Crowley’s POV? idk

24 - Private Detective

Not sure what I was going to do with this, but thought it’d be fun to have Harley trying for a redemption arc by “being more like batman” who is a detective. Also I wanted an excuse to write handcuff jokes with her and Ivy.

25 - Circus

I got nothing, my dude :(

26 - Monster Hunters

Also basically nothing, but I thought doing something x-files themed, namely with the “Scully you wont believe this!” character paired with the nonbeliever. That’s always fun.

27 - Flower Shop

Another one I’m bummed I didn’t get to, because I swear to you it was going to be amazing. It’d be a rewrite of Little Shop of Horrors, where Ivy is Seymour, Harley is Audrey, Joker is the Dentist, Sy Borgman is Mr. Mushnick, and Frank is Audrey II. See?? Doesn’t it fit perfectly??? If only I had time to write it, ugh.

Also low key want to make this concept a screenplay and sell the idea to WB - sure the money from being a paid screenwriter would be cool, but I care about making this idea a reality way more than I care about the money. I want to see Harley and Ivy sing about wanting a better life and for Ivy to realize how absolutely valid killing the joker would be. 

28 - Fashion & Models

Again, nothing. But let’s be honest, it would probably be something involving Crowley as a model.

1 - Fantasy

Mages and Myths : Set in the lore of Dungeons & Dragons, the Avengers are sent on a mission to defeat a powerful mage (spoiler alert, the mage is Tony)

2 - College

it’s a liberal arts degree, aziraphale. what could it cost, ten dollars? : Easily one of my favorite titles. Crowley and Aziraphale are college freshmen, arguing with the dean about their roommate situation. (spoiler alert, the dean is a metaphor for god)

3 - Soulmates

Next Time : A 5+1 fem!Tony Stark and fem!Bruce Banner story, where soulmates are split into seers (who can see the future of where their soulmate might be) and canvases (who carry all the scars of their soulmate’s past). It’s actually a pretty sad story.

4 - Angels and Demons

Hard to Give You the Cold Shoulder : You’d think I’d do Good Omens for this fic and you’d be wrong! That was the easy option, the obvious option. I did TAZ instead - Taako and Krav work for different deities, pitting them against each other as the cliche “angel and devil on your shoulders”. It’s mostly just banter.

5 - Post-Apocalypse

luck consists not in holding the best cards : A story that is so much more than the single chapter I was able to post. Crowley and Aziraphale fail to prevent the apocalypse. Heaven wins the war. Now, with Crowley posing as Aziraphale’s “captive,” the two must find a way to eek out their own existence in eternity despite Heaven’s constant watch.

6 - Hospital

Smoke Break : Dr. Sam Wilson and Dr. Tony Stark talk about their stressful job and why they do what they do.

7 - Childhood Friends

Mutual Pining is Stupid : LUP AND KRAVITZ ARE BEST FRIENDS!!! A midnight conversation where Krav confesses to Lup that he has a crush on her brother - another fic that is mostly banter.

11 - Farm/Ranch

I Won't Know How to Quit You : Harley is a new hire for the season and Ivy is not impressed with her, until they slowly fall in love. The summary is “What if Brokeback Mountain was lesbians and nobody died?” and it’s exactly what it says on the tin. (clarification - it’s not all of brokeback, it’s only like the first thirty minutes, lots of nature shots and being alone togehter)

13 - Rock Band

Meet Your Heroes : Aziraphale is one of the greatest rock guitarists of all time. Crowley, who runs a record shop, does not believe that the man standing in front of him is who he claims to be. I’d love to turn this into a longer series.

16 - Treasure Hunters

Dead Men Tell Some Tales : Tony Stark runs one team, while Steve Rogers runs another, in a Civil War AU about finding buried treasure. 

17 - Firefighters

Take Me in Flames, Bury Me in Ash : hello naughty children, it’s angst time. A rewrite of the scene where Aziraphale’s bookshop burns down. Except they’re both humans - no being discorporated to heaven, no being a demon immune to fire. Heed the tags.

18 - Bodyguard

Just Enough : to be really honest, I wrote this fic trying to encapsulate the idea of seeing something you want and knowing you’ll never be allowed to have it. But what is Crowley for if not giving Aziraphale everything she wants? It’s soft elderly wlws, you’re welcome.

20 - singleparents Joker: Coffee Shop

benefits include medical, dental, and the most gorgeous man you’ve ever seen : another title I’m really proud of. Set post-S1 of Umbrella Academy, where the team successfully avoided the apocalypse because there is no Commission. Allison finds Klaus a job and, despite his doubts, he loves it. It was supposed to be a Klaus/Dave fic (and it is) but it mainly focuses on good sibling content.

21 - Professional Rivals

James v. James : Set in the same AU as “Dead Men Tell Some Tales”. James Barnes and James Rhodes are lawyers! And they do not like each other! When Rhodes loses a case against Barnes, he drinks to cope. When Barnes shows up at the table, they have a drinking contest.

29 - Tattoo Parlor

Perpendicular : Bryan Fuller is quoted as saying “Every director who comes to the show gets the same lecture. We are not making television. We are making a pretentious art film from the 80s.” (source). I channeled that energy into a fic about Will getting tattoos to cope with the horrors of his job, and Hannibal as his tattoo artist. I also used the recent “talk like Hannibal” meme as much as humanly possible. This fic is probably the most erotic of the entire challenge.

30 - Magic

Abjuration as a State of Mind : Every TUA fic I write starts with one idea and turns into something else. Once again set in the lore of Dungeons & Dragons, the Hargreeves children are each specializing in a different school of magic. It was supposed to be about Five trying to learn more, but turned into a story of Luther wanting to protect his siblings while they go off to save Klaus.

31 - Combo! Professional Rivals x Coffee Shop

Does a rival count as a hobby? : This fic is a gift to my sister, who asked for the one thing I didn’t want to write. But man, am I glad I wrote it. Making fun of Kylo Ren is self care, Rey being a bad ass and a mess all at the same time is a delight, and I care more about Poe/Finn than anything else. Coffee is regularly used as a metaphor.

my dad–also a writer–came to visit, and i mentioned that the best thing to come out of the layoff is that i’m writing again. he asked what i was writing about, and i said what i always do: “oh, just fanfic,” which is code for “let’s not look at this too deeply because i’m basically just making action figures kiss in text form” and “this awkward follow-up question is exactly why i don’t call myself a writer in public.”

he said, “you have to stop doing that.”

“i know, i know,” because it’s even more embarrassing to be embarrassed about writing fanfic, considering how many posts i’ve reblogged in its defense.

but i misunderstood his original question: “fanfic is just the genre. i asked what you’re writing about.” 

i did the conversational equivalent of a spinning wheel cursor for at least a minute. i started peeling back the setting and the characters, the fic challenge and the specific episode the story jumps off from, and it was one of those slow-dawning light bulb moments. “i’m writing about loneliness, and who we are in the absence of purpose.”

as, i imagine, are a lot of people right now, who probably also don’t realize they’re writing an existential diary in the guise of getting television characters to fuck. 

“that’s what you’re writing. the rest is just how you get there, and how you get it out into the world. was richard iii really about richard the third? would shakespeare have gotten as many people to see it if it wasn’t a story they knew?”
