Today I have some good news that I want to tell you.
As you already know. I've just finished my 7 years' career at SHIGERU BAN’s office in Tokyo and started my own career as an architect. Before starting my full-scale design work, I am planning to travel around the world for a year to see good architecture, to experience various cultures and to meet many people. Through this "MAKO TRIP" I would like to understand my self deeply and get my unique design concept.
Standing 70 meters tall, the Tower of the Sun is a massive piece of art designed by the artist Taro Okamoto as part of the Theme Pavilion for the 1970 Japan World Exposition.
Hong Kong🇭🇰 is one of my favorite cities in the world as I have been there for 5 years when I was child. The location of this photo is at ”WONTONMEEN” guest house courtyard in local Sham Shui Po area. I love HK chaotic atmosphere and watching neon sign boards.
My Oath, “One year from here” Oct. 10th, 2019 – Oct. 10th, 2020
Hi, I am Makoto Tadokoro, Japanese architect. I just resigned from Shigeru Ban Architects [WEB http://www.shigerubanarchitects.com/] on Aug. 30th, 2019. I worked for 7 and a half years. Shigeru Ban, perhaps someone who is interested in architecture may know him, I was in charge of several projects there and I have learned designing methods and attitude of designing architecture through him.
And on day I decided to move on to the next step to be an independent architect. However, soon after becoming independent, I found I do not have so many social contacts which shape my personality. Moreover, while working at the atelier office, I couldn't afford to think about something like “What is my own design?”.
If there is no originality in design, designer will not be able to survive in such an internet information society (full of imitations world), and I don't think it makes sense if I can't make something that I'm satisfied with.
So, I decided to launch a blog here to have contact with public people and continue by on Oct. 10th, 2020, a year later from today.
I would like to get public opinions and reactions (may be getting “Like” recently) by sharing my ideas, what I am thinking and experiences. I am sure this blog to be a platform where I can express my opinions and It can be an attempt to get out of the state of "Where am I? Who am I?"
