It's gonna be such a funny mess when Donald Trump dies of a stroke on April 1st, 2024.
Naturally everybody will think it's fake because of the date only to lose their minds (both positively and negatively based on their opinion of trump) when realizing it's real
There will be massive celebrations in the streets and on social media and lots of predictable "don't speak ill of the dead" discourse about those celebrations
Weird evangelicals will pull some weird number trick talking about how Jesus was conceived on April 1st and that makes Trump a sort of messiah and people will make fun of that
The Republicans (after they're done with the faux-sadness and faux-outrage) will stomp over each other to be his successor but none of them will succeed. They'll tear each other apart and have no single nominee for the November elections.
There will be discourse about if Biden and the living former presidents should go to his funeral (they won't, he was a traitor insurrectionist)
The Ukraine-Russia War immediately goes in favor of Ukraine as morale in the Kremlin is reduced. China similarly backs off from its threats on Taiwan.
Ten thousand new memes are made, some sticking around for years to come.
Not a month later a bunch of unofficial biographies of Trump hit the bookshelves, many with new details about just how awful he was.

where do I read this?
hey, has anybody written the fic yet where dean and sam are a ghost hunting team
BUT
dean is a skeptic and sam is a believer?
so they go investigate claims from people that write into their blog and each one tries to present their case to the families so they can decide what truth they want to believe. dean brings in a CO2 detector and mold test kits, checks for doors that aren't installed properly and swing open on their own, or faulty wiring under electronics that makes them turn on by themselves; sam tries some psychic mumbo jumbo and light witchcraft, occasionally praying, reaching out, and picking up "energy" in the home, he's a lot more touchy-feely with the people being haunted and wants to believe them.
dean is very long-suffering about all this and loves proving sam wrong. sam gets very smug when he stumps dean with some twist of new knowledge. sometimes the two have to come together and wonder if, in some cases, it's better to just let people believe in ghosts.
idk i just think the skeptic/believer dynamic would be SO fun for a case fic!!!

Seeing people drive drive big lifted and totally pristine giant pickup trucks as just a car to get to and from work on fully paved roads is like watching a high energy working breed dog be forced to live in a 1 bedroom apartment and only go out for poop walks.
If you cant provide them the home they need its abuse. That truck should be hauling bricks, it needs to be maxing out its suspension hitting ridges at 65 mph. It should be dirty and dented because they love it. Theres no enrichment in your 1/4 mile drive to the gas station. Youre torturing it, youre killing that truck.

Warner Bros backpedaled so hard on the coyote vs acme situation because apparently after they announced that they weren’t gonna release it, a bunch of creatives called and cancelled their booked meetings and movie pitches with the studio to go other places.
After all, what’s the point of making a movie with Warner Bros when it’s more likely that they’re just gonna use it as a tax write off and never let it see the light of day?

I realize Leigh has asked for “no mourners”, but I am in mourning.
I am mourning the community I found through this fandom, the nuanced discussions about book canon vs show canon and all of those decision that Ben made that really took his character to levels not seen in the books. I am mourning seeing JML shine exactly as bright as she deserved in the role of Alina. I am mourning my SOC Easter eggs, the beauty of their castings in particular - unnerving in how those actors so perfectly fit the characters that we wonder if it’s not a mirror image of somewhere else.
But more than that, I am mourning the fact that stories these days require a level of compaction that we’ve never seen before. This goes beyond combining books or scenes or canon events that are supposed to be kept separate to preserve the pace of story development; these days, to watch an adaptation of written material in TV format is to pray that corporate producers leave enough room for the characters to breathe. I am so tired of the unspoken blame that lands on writers when shows get cancelled, when it is in fact Corporate that has decided that the show hasn’t met some numerical goal and therefore will be guillotined. Someone noted on a S&B Discord channel that networks no longer allow room for shows to have “meh” seasons and for both them and their writers to grow - and I couldn’t agree more.
Now, the Volcra in the room. Naturally, we’ve heard “but the strike!” from Netflix as a key reason for this cancellation; while I’m sure it played a part, I refuse to stand silently and not point out that the strike, in fact, was something major studios did to themselves. “The strike cancelled your shows!” No, Netflix - you cancelled your shows. By not paying your writers and actors, you forced a strike, and the second everyone could back to work, you’ve removed projects from those striking creatives. All in service of trying to maximize profit within minimal time, but therein lies the paradox of written work - its profitability requires an investment of time. So many amazing shows have been axed in recent years because “they weren’t hitting the mark”: I think it’s time to point out that this is nowhere the mark we should be aiming for.
Shadow and Bone was not without its canonical problems. Plots were jammed together, many S&B moments got skipped in favor of putting the Crows onscreen, and the ending of season 2 left a lot to be desired in and of itself. (If you’re not aware of the deleted scene, please Google for enlightenment.) Those are just a handful of fan complaints that should’ve been addressed - but with the cancellation, there’s no opportunity to do so. I am tired of fans’ screams simply fading to black because studios decided that a story someone loved didn’t translate into a “big enough” number - whatever that even means.
Raise a glass of kvas to Ravka, to our Sol Koroleva and our Starless Saint, to our beloved Crows, to Milo the goat, and to the cast, crew, and creators of Shadow and Bone. You will be unbelievably missed.
