one thing that comforts me a lot about the old guard characters is that they, without a doubt, at some point let go of something that made them happy and didn't even realise it until they were deep in another war, too busy dealing with something else. hobbies that they let go of, only to remembers a century later 'do you remember how good was booker at playing that annoying thing', traditions that they forgot about until they were a distant memory, until the pieces that composed it were not even possible to find anymore, recipes they can't remember the doses of, friendships with mortals that slipped between the fingers when they weren't looking. sometimes life got the best of them, sometimes they just fucked up. there was something more pressing to do, they were sad, Quỳnh was gone, they weren't traveling together as a group at the time... the reasons are many. they are filled with that they've lost (and retained only in memories) just as much as with the experiences they still carry around. but maybe there will be a year when they'll have the time to get back to that hobby, a century that will be kinder on their anniversaries, and most of all, there will be new things that make them happy, to share with the same old people, or with someone new (Here they smile to nile). I'm sure they fucked up a lot in the past. I'm sure one day Booker will find the ocarina in the basement and Nicky will remember why, exactly, he hated the thing in the first place. I'm sure they'll have time to try again

One thing I really appreciate about Heartstopper is how it puts friendships on the same level as romantic relationships. Like, how Charlie wrote Tao's name on the lock and not Nick's? That was so beautiful. It shows that friendships matters as much, that we should cherish them too.
