So much has been happening in the world of Aquamarine we’ve barely had time to post about it! Lately, that has involved completing the content for all three of the game's unique areas, as well as polishing up our demo for this summer's string of game festivals. Keep your eyes peeled for those announcements very soon.
In the meantime, have you wishlisted Aquamarine on Steam yet? Our page just got a big update, with brand-new screenshots, colorful GIFs, and a more in-depth description of what the game is all about. Now's the best time to take a look and even share our quiet sci-fi survival adventure with friends.

We've had to keep quiet for way too long about this, but now we can finally tell everyone about the coolest things to happen to Aquamarine since our Kickstarter was successfully funded nearly a year ago. Drum roll... 🥁 🥁 🥁
🥳AQUAMARINE HAS A PUBLISHER!!!🥳
It finally happened! After failed negotiations, changed plans, and various other let downs, we've found our perfect publisher match with the awesome crew over at Hitcents. Everyone at Team Moebial has always known we wanted to work with a publisher to take Aquamarine to the next level, as long as they respected our vision and agreed to let us guide the game’s direction. We’ve found that and so much more with Hitcents, and our partnership has quickly elevated our development.
Tumblr media
It has also resulted in us being a part of a really cool Steam event that starts tomorrow! The Big Adventure Event is a five-day celebration of one of our favorite genres: Adventure games, of course. Over 80 games will be featured throughout the event, including more than 40 free demos. And you guessed it, Aquamarine will be one of those demos. Even if you've checked out one of our demo weekends before, there's a whole lot of new stuff to see and do in this latest version.
Tumblr media
We'll also be doing a big stream as part of the event on Saturday, Jan 23, at 1:00PM PST. The stream will include new gameplay from the demo, behind-the-scenes development footage, and commentary from Team Moebial. You can check out more details over on our Steam page.
Tumblr media
For those who are keeping track, you'll notice our release date now says Summer 2021. Signing a publishing deal with Hitcents re-opened the conversation about when Aquamarine should be released, and we realized it was a good chance for us to maximize the additional funding and development support that this partnership brought to the table. As always, our goal is first and foremost to release the absolute best version of Aquamarine we can make. Our second goal is to release it in a timely fashion. So thanks for sticking with us throughout all these changes. We'll have loads more to share very soon. :)

Hey everyone! Been a while, huh? Maybe you thought our lil sci-fi survival adventure was dead in the water, or that Team Moebial fell victim to one of 2020's many terrible events? Nope. We've just been busy, like CRAZY busy, developing the living heck out of Aquamarine. Yes, so busy we couldn't even find time to show off what we’ve been busy with. But seeing as how 2021 is just around the corner, we figured it was time to take a break and send out a big year-end update.
Tumblr media
So much has happened this year. We've designed the entirety of Aquamarine's gameplay experience, including three unique biomes, a full story arc with multiple endings, a slew of upgrades for your underwater pod & island home base, and plenty of special secrets to uncover throughout your time in the world. We're also deep into the production of all three main areas in the game, complete with their own creatures and ecosystems, as well as the systems for how we handle the generative story events, exploration mechanics, and dynamic environments.
Tumblr media
With the ground work for Aquamarine well under way, we've more recently gone back to the beginning to start revamping our old art, music, and animation assets in the game's first area. We're keeping our designs and mechanics for beloved creatures like the Hider, Eater, Scavenger, and Swimmer, but now they've all been given a major makeover. Same goes for the environment art itself, not to mention the new designs for creatures we hadn’t finished yet. By the time our next demo is revealed, Aquamarine is going to look like a completely different game.
Tumblr media
Speaking of demos, we have another weekend event coming up in late January where everyone will be able to check out the latest version of Aquamarine. It will be part of a bigger Steam event that we're involved with, the details of which we unfortunately can't get into. It's not that we want to be secretive, but there are just some big announcements we can't tell anyone about quite yet. Keep your eyes on this space, though, and soon all will be revealed.
Tumblr media
In the meantime, we promise to be much more on top of our game in terms of sharing our progress and development updates. Moebial Studios is just a small crew of passionate artists spread across the globe, and we've really got our work cut out for us hand-crafting every strange corner of this living, breathing alien waterworld. We've had to push back our release window to Spring/Summer 2021, simply because of the insane care and attention to detail that goes into everything we do. But trust us when we tell you it will be worth it, and we cannot wait to show you everything we're creating for you.

Now that we're four months out from our Kickstarter campaign for Aquamarine, we've finally finished making and shipping the limited-edition rewards for our awesome backers. But there's still a very small handful left over that we want to make sure go to a good home. If you have any interest in supporting the development of our quiet survival adventure, this is the last month to become a Slacker Backer.
Tumblr media
We only have one copy left of the 7" vinyl record (up top) featuring exclusive versions of the soundtrack from Aquamarine's pre-alpha demo, written & produced by our composer Thomas Hoey. And there's only one copy remaining of the printed operations manual booklet (above), which also comes with another printed manual for the final game once it's finished.
Tumblr media
We also have a few more of the 11x17" art prints (above), which are printed on thick, high-quality card stock and are easily mounted or framed. Each of the physical rewards are hand-numbered collector's items made in a limited edition and will not be re-printed. And for anyone just interested in supporting Aquamarine with a pre-order & digital rewards, we've got plenty of options to choose from.
During this final month, we're donating 25% of all sales to nonprofit racial justice organization Color of Change. So you can help make a difference in the world, support indie game devs, and get some cool collectibles all at once!
Check out what's available here.

Now that the team at Moebial Studios is working full-time on Aquamarine’s development, we wanted to take a moment to share some of the great work our artists did for our amazing Kickstarter backers.
Our lead artist Leonardo d'Almeida collaborated with one of the "Uncanny Visionist" backers on the original art piece pictured above. Without giving away too much, the concept was inspired by the second area of Aquamarine that our dev team is currently working on. Together, Leo and our backer decided on the illustration's look and feel before collaborating on it step by step—from sketch, to line art, to finished colors. Now we've sent off the piece to be made into a 16x20" art print and shipped to the backer. Pretty cool!
Tumblr media
Our co-artist and lead animator Drew Brouillette has also been hard at work finishing all of the hand-drawn portraits for our "Curious Cosplayer" backers. Needless to say, it's a big project that's been keeping him very busy, with roughly 40 illustrations to complete (plus any requested revisions). It's been amazing to watch Drew capture the personalities of our backers one by one, we just couldn't help but show off a handful of his portraits.

While our visual artists were busy with those illustrations, our composer Thomas Hoey was experimenting with some ideas for the moods and sounds of Aquamarine’s second biome. He decided to share a sneak peek with us in the form of the video above, which shows him creating some ambient soundscapes with his collection of synths and FX boxes.
And while we're at it, there's a few awesome articles about Aquamarine that we never got a chance to share during our campaign. It's always exciting for us to read everyone's impressions of our game and the pre-alpha Kickstarter demo, so we selected some of our favorite quotes below. Be sure to check out the rest of the articles as well! The one Emily Rose wrote for RE:BIND is especially smart and insightful.
"Based on the art style alone, I'd be excited about [Aquamarine] even if it were some kind of tax-calculating sim. Thankfully, we're being treated to something much more intriguing." – RPG Fan
"The music is a mixture of warm, low-fi synths, and with the water-washed colours of the alien world it creates a very relaxing atmosphere. For a game about survival, it's a very chill experience." – PC Gamer
"Aquamarine is all about playing thoughtfully, taking in the sights and carefully rationing your supplies to ensure the mission is a success, It’s Jacques Cousteau-meets-Jean Giraud with a delightful splash of sailing drama." – RE:BIND
A quick reminder: The Slacker Backer webstore only has a couple of high-quality art prints still in stock. Grab one of these very limited pieces before they’re all gone!

Earlier this year, Aquamarine's Kickstarter raised $18,763 to finish our quiet survival adventure game. And now we’re hard at work creating the rest of the world, writing new music, continuing the story, and expanding the gameplay. All of it is possible because of the support of our community.
But if you weren’t able to back our Kickstarter, we finally have rewards available straight from our website! Head to our Slacker Backer Rewards page if you want to help fund Aquamarine's ongoing development and claim your copy of the game before it's released.  We even made a very limited quantity of 11x17" art prints (pictured above) available. Check those out here.
Oh, and one more thing: Aquamarine is now on Steam! We're super thrilled to finally have our store page up and running. We'll be sure to keep it updated with new images and info as production continues.
