So, I was doing my annual check-up on this blog; laughing and enjoying the shit posts. Until I realized I threw four years (and many more to come) down the drain writing a play adaptation of this stupid book centered around the Villefort side of the story and you…YOU are the reason for this. No if, ands, or buts about it. I'm blaming you for my continued suffering.
i have NO idea when i received this ask because tumblr never showed the notifications but oh my god...
first of all i am truly honoured to have been the cause of the continuous and unending suffering of a complete and utter stranger. truly challenging edmond dantès energy.
second of all what do you mean down the drain. villefort is one of the most interesting characters in the whole book and he absolutely deserved what he got but also oh my god perhaps he didn't? wow we love nuanced takes in this house.
i'm sure that whatever you're doing is fantastic and if you ever want to send me an excerpt of your creation feel free to text me in dm! the blog is pretty much dead (i'm too attached to it to bury it though, i think of it as the rotting corpse in my living room which i refuse to address whenever someone comes to visit) but i usually respond to dms!
we also have a (equally dead) discord groupchat <3

i dunno if you’ve been asked this before but do you have any songs you associate w any of the characters? 🧐 i remember that i had to read the count of monte cristo in class years ago and one of our assignments was to make a list of songs we associated w the characters so i’m curious to see if you have any heh
hello! I don't listen to that many artists to be able to answer this question, I don't really tend to associate songs to books/characters. But I'm 100% certain someone else does

My art is getting better and better, wchich means  on rare ocasions when I draw Villefort his sufferings are getting stronger and stronger… He’ll get as much hurt/comfort as needed but I can’t promise that I’ll draw it

I was thinking about something ; what if mercedes did commit suicide ? Would Fernand decide to choose the path of redemption and help Edmond ( and perhaps the abbey too ) escape and get his revenge ? 🤔 Edmond would still hate him anyways ofc
nah i don't think fernand would choose the path of redemption, least of all to help edmond.
in my interpretation of the character, fernand is pretty similar to the 2002 movie version of fernand: he does love mercédès (in his twisted way) but what bothers him is the fact that he can't have her, so obviously he resents anything that comes between her and him (ergo, edmond), and he would probably see her killing herself as edmond's love once again distributing his dream.
+ he doesn't actually ever regret what he did to dantès.
so no, he wouldn't choose to do the good thing. and at any rate it would be entirely out of hands.
i think if mercédès had committed suicide (if i am not mistaken it is hinted that she attempted it or at the very least seriously considered it) fernand would either have killed himself in turn or he would have just left france and lived his life, but i personally turn towards the former.
he doesn't strike me as someone who'd just watch the woman he's in love with die because of him and then casually move on.

it's been years and I still think about how everyone around Eugénie knew she was gay and in love with Louise.
Valentine was like "yeah Eugénie doesn't want to get married to anyone it's so strange" and Max "euheuheuh totally strange yeah lmao".
And her mother is like "oh... she's a lover of the arts... ahahah... why is my child like this..."
and the Count didn't even try to seduce her like I expected, he just straight up went Lesbian Rights and gave Louise a man's passport. "what do you need it for?" "I want to elope" "sick here it is, gay rights"
the only ones who pretended to be oblivious are Albert and Andrea, because they're the kind of straight men who think you're gay until you meet them but they can magically turn your straight.

so I can't sleep but I was considering doing my yearly reread of The Count of Monte-Cristo and I was thinking about the Count because obviously that's what you do at 3:30 AM but.
I was thinking about 7 things in particular:
the function of God (as in, thee God) as opposed to the function of the god-like man in the book
the Count's weirdly specific coping mechanisms and his obviously unresolved trauma
the book probably doesn't even pass the Bechdel test
the similarities and differences between the figure of Monte-Cristo and Jean Valjean, because obviously I couldn't not think about it
the relationship between the Count/Albert VS the Count/Franz VS the Count/Andrea VS the Count/Maximilien
the Count's inherent self-contradictory nature
the Count is Hamlet
I will elaborate in the morning.

Athos and Monte Cristo
Whose Appearance Is More Attractive? (I think they are very similar to each other?) (maybe I just remembered them like that) (or I'm just stupid)
I am a lesbian.
but I’ve actually thought about this.
Athos’ Inherent Sexiness is only mostly external; Dumas very gaily describes him as extremely good-looking even as a middle-aged recovering alcoholic in the sequels to The Three Musketeers. I’d say Athos had a good consistent 9/10 throughout the entire trilogy, bonus points in the first book for his whole Depressed Dark And Mysterious Man vibes.
On the other hand, the Count’s Hotness is internal: he’s described as pretty average, both in heights and looks and clothes, but what makes him so sexy is his charm and eloquence and magnetism and all in all his weird vibes in general yknow. He’s the kind of man that you’d find ugly if you looked at him too much but who still makes heads turn when he walks into the room. I would say he’s a solid 6/10 but also 10/10 at the same time.

Submission:
Okay so, I don't know if you're all good with like, people submitting short fanfic bits here, but I don't really have anywhere else to dump this, so feel free to delete this if you want, lol. I'm just gonna scribble down a little fluffy thing that's been in my brain rent-free lately.
Franz glanced up from the book he was reading as he heard the door of their rented room opening. Albert was back. He smiled slightly.
Their trip had been lovely; Franz loved traveling, so a visit to Rome with his best friend was certainly welcome. A few times, he had stayed out with Albert all through the night, engaging in whatever debauchery came to mind. However, he did prefer to return to the hotel at around eleven, leaving Albert to his own, and simply unwind for a few hours before going to bed. Plus, it let him make sure Albert was actually going to bed, rather than simply passing out on the floor drunk, and Franz finding him the next morning, propped up against the door and snoring.
As Albert walked (albeit a bit clumsily) into the room, Franz stood up to greet him, and make sure that he was still in working order.
"Well, you look like you had fun." Franz chuckled as Albert propped himself up against him.
"Oooohhhh yes... I met the nicest girls tonight." Albert grinned. "But- but, I didn't do anything with them. Iiiiiiiiii... Didn't want to."
"Well, that certainly is out of the ordinary." Franz replied, helping Albert remove his coat.
"I don't know, I just, I just... I didn't do just any didn't any thing...." Albert yawned as Franz led him to his bed. "You know?"
"I know." Franz smiled at his friend's ramblings as he helped him undress and tucked him under the covers. "Goodnight."
"I love you..." Albert mumbled, his face buried in a pillow. "I love you."
Franz laughed quietly, trying to ignore the feeling of his heart fluttering slightly- the same as it had done the past few nights when this same thing had been proclaimed, seemingly erased from Albert's own memory each morning.
"You too, Albert. You too."
