I spent hours looking for this and I don’t know why. This has to have been from 2021 or older.

I would’ve done Robin and Cyborg differently these days, but I stand by my design choices for the others.

If there is one thing I like, it’s that I kept Dick true to himself with the escrima sticks. The TT cartoon giving him Tim’s signature bo staff was just a little disrespectful to both characters.

It’s a shame I didn’t shade this one, as you can see in the below picture you get a better idea of what I was going for with Raven’s costume.

League of Heroes in DCAU-ish style, 2025-04

I think this kind of thing is normally called a style study?

I don’t know, I’ve been watching Justice League again and since part of my love of superheroes comes from the DCAU, I wanted to give doing my characters in the style a try.

Its reinforced this thought I had that I had a problem with shoulders and the triangle between the neck and shoulders. Trying to do the DCAU style really helped me see certain limitations I have or gaps in my anatomy.

It also shows more limitations of standard DCAU hero design and my adaptability. I have certain body types in mind with certain characters, so trying to do that within the conventional style has been interesting to say the least.

But you can see from the first picture how much erasing was involved with my trying to add additional characters with different builds. Also I think maybe it was getting too small for me to draw well.

Either way at least I like how Fistman, Gumboy, and YinYang Ninja came out.

Crimson Lightning, Lucky, and The Lioness are more indicative of what trying to incorporate alternate builds into the conventional style looks like in my attempts. I’m sure if I searched harder I could’ve found something better but I was working from some basic style guides and turnarounds of specific characters.

Also can you tell my hand was getting tired by the time I got to Hearts? I can.

Using the magic of tracing and some funky editing I converted my fursona into a Pokesona.

And if you saw the hours put into splicing the new drawing on top of the old one you would understand doing this was so much harder than the results imply.

I didn't make them shiny for any special reason other than blue is my favorite color so it was just one of those things that perfectly matches.

Experimenting with how to deal with my art. Thinking of trying to do more of this sort of thing with my more complete sketches so that they’re nicer to look at. And maybe down the line add this sort of coloring style to my commission sheet, I dunno.

Young Justice Hug Sketch, 2025-04-05

Had a part of this sitting in the sketchbook for weeks and today for some reason I felt confident enough to finish it. Well, “finish” it.

DAMMIT!

It was in he original sketch too but I erased it to make his head smaller and I forgot to put them back!

DAMMIT! Of course I’m only now noticing this as I’m posting it!

One of the annoying parts of growing up is learning what cops are actually like and now you have this character you’ve created and have a role for and now you’re like “this character wouldn’t be cop.”

And that’s not to say I oppose having any of my heroes be cops with all the issues that entails, I mean that based on this character’s personality they literally would not be a cop.

Shadow, what on earth am I going to do with you. Your personality is sound but your role in the story has been shattered by reality

Finally getting back to this height chart project that’s been in the works for years and I’ve stalled because I’m reconsidering hair color. Again.

Back in 2006 when this character was whiter, he had orange hair. Over the years when I solidified his heritage in recent colorings I gave him black hair.

But now I’m trying to make this “definitive”-ish image and I’m reconsidering asking him ginger again. It’s very annoying that the thought entered my head to change it.

I’ll take suggestions. Actually, let’s do a quick poll

My original attempt at pen-only drawing was to draw one of my characters. Thought Shadow would be easy because he’s got a very geometric face structure with clear defined shapes everywhere, and his demon form is pitch black anyway.

Didn’t work that way, which is why I was told to try pen again but more free form, which is what the previous post was.

I have a problem with perfection and permanence. So when I told my shrink about how I do sketches v how my sister does sketches, she said I should experiment with using pen and being okay with not taking things back.

I haven’t used pen to draw (outside of margin doodles) since I first started learning to draw as, like, an 8 year old.

So here’s a few things I did where I sat and just moved the one around in whatever movements if shapes I felt like.

Then when I saw something in the noise I tried to refine it into something.

Additive art is very uh… difficult. This is one of the reasons why I struggled with painting. When you have something in mind and you make a mistake, you can try to alter it, replace it, or start over. Every art instructor, amateur or pro, will talk about making your mistakes work for you by using it or transforming it.

But if you make mistakes with your alterations or replacements then it just cascades and what do you have left? Garbage. It’s garbage. It’s wasted time and wasted resources.

And you made nothing.

You have to start from the beginning because you made nothing.

But I’m supposed to learn to be more okay with that, not just in art but with everything else.

Sketchbook 2021 I was on a Pokemon Colosseum kick at the time and I just felt like drawing the protag's signature Pokemon as him. Pokemon Colosseum is probably why Umbreon and Espeon are my favorite Pokemon.

Sketchbook 2021 I got jealous that a better artist than me could draw without sketching and tried it for myself. I failed but it meant I could draw Tux in my modern day art style. Fun fact: Young me worked backwards to justify his name being Tux, thus the name "Terry Luxury".

Sketchbook 2021 Was trying to draw some old characters in my modern art style. You can tell some of them are Sonic OCs because the falcon and raccoon don't wear shirts. Also I had a character whose species I was replacing and I experimented with changing her to a possum.
