Why is the fandom dying?
Why do authors stop writing?
Why is there barely any fics being published?
Because some of you are acting like entitled little children, that’s why.
I swear, every single week, we receive abhorrent asks in our inboxes.
“Next fic/chapter when”
“You haven’t posted/updated since x amount of time”
Etc etc etc.
I’ve been writing fics for a decade now, and I have NEVER seen such behaviour before. There’s a new generation of readers out there who simply lacks basic fanfiction etiquette.
Fics authors are doing FREE LABOUR, they’re creating FREE content for you to enjoy. And it’s still not enough. You don’t bang on the oven door and scream at the cake to bake faster. Nor would you sit in a restaurant and yell at the chef to cook your meal quicker—especially if they’re feeding you for free. So why, why, do you feel entitled to come into our inbox and DEMAND things from us, complete strangers?!
You want authors to write? Boost them. Give them some motivation. Leave comments. Repost stories you enjoyed reading. Engage with us between fics updates. Make us feel like you don’t only care for the free content, but care about the person behind the writing.
Be patient, be kind, be respectful.

A Knight in Shining Armour in Disguise. ( Captain Phasma x f!reader )
Fluff.
A special request from @reddragon30000 , who I owe the deepest apologies for since I made them wait for too long! ( You can find their Phasma fic on AO3! Just check their profile. )
Warning/s: slight swearing, violence, mentions of misogyny.
Summary: The f!reader is a female mechanical engineer that often seems to somehow threaten overzealous people. Phasma, however, admires her works and discreetly makes everything easier for her. But what if poor f!reader found herself locked up in a cold storage room alone?
A/N: ..I haven't really watched the star wars movie, and know literally nothing about the ship so there's not much accurate details. I also hope that Phasma in this story is somehow accurate(?). Also, I don't do Beta readings so I hope this story is much to your liking. Anyways, lmk what you think in the comments!
--
Being a female mechanical engineer wasn't an easy journey. You were often advised to take the medical field instead so that you can become a medic who treats fallen soldiers, the medicine field was also a more female-dominated world, a safer option, they said. However, you weren't swayed with that, you always had an interest in mechanics, no matter how complex it can get. The world of mechanical engineers is a highly male-dominated field, but who says you can't compete with these men? You know in your heart that you belonged there.
You had learn the hard way that it was best to be quiet when working to gather experience, often times you would hear misogynistic comments about your work. Truth to be told, none of the workplaces you've worked on had ever been kind to you, but you were thankful none of these overzealous men had gone violent on you. They knew you were too valuable, too intelligent for them to handle. You learned that it was best to stay calm when they often show some sass, rage or just overall a rude attitude just because you're a woman. They often would get pissed when you refuse to show any signs of reaction over their questionable behavior. You had grown accustomed to these types of treatments, afterall, you'd leave once you think you've had just enough experience to add to your resume.
The day finally came of you landing job at the imperial military. You got excited at the thought of working over blasters, warships, and shields (your most favorite part). You wore your imperial engineer uniform with pride, though you'd prefer to wear pants than skirts since it was more practical.
It was like a dream working for the imperial military, because the engineers were constantly asked to innovate new ways to strengthen the battleships, focusing on improving the shields, and blasters. Due to your experience, you were highly praised. So far, this working environment had been your kindest (minus the way that some stormtroopers, and engineers seem to be uncomfortable and unapproving of your presence because of competency). But they had no words for you since the imperial palace hired you in no time.
You were a one of the few brainy mechanical female engineers working aboard for the Finalizer. One of the many reason why the Stormtroopers, had many successful battles and an increasing rate in enforcing imperial authority. Though you finally got more involved in engineering, there was still this rivalry gaze that you received from other officers because you were always the one requested specifically by the First Order Stormtroopers (even the female engineers had grown jealous over your constant needed presence). Which is the whole reason why you were often seen working alone and don't ask for help much, not that you mind it, but it can sure be lonely..
" You think you can fix my helmet? " Phasma's English voice rang you out of your thoughts and gawking. This was the first time you've seen the Captain with no helmet, seeming to find that she was a female and not a male. You caught yourself in a flustered state that made you feel embarrassed for staring at those beautiful eyes of hers. Looking away from Phasma's seemingly intense gaze.. You look at the damage caused, " Sure.. but I'll be needing the original blueprints of this whole helmet and some materials to return it back to how it originally was. " You said as you kept inspecting, your brain's wheels already turning on how to get it fixed in no time.
Pausing on your inspections, it seems that Phasma has everything already laid out for you. From materials needed, even the blueprint of the helmet. You expected to be the one running around in a hassle just to get the materials you needed. You were so used to that kind of treatment, that you started to feel uncertain if this was real.
" Is something wrong? " Phasma raised a brow at you, her stoic expression never revealing the inner pull of interest she had on you. " No.. not at all, captain. I'm just.. not used to this. " You explained as you took everything from Phasma with a soft smile in appreciation.
" What do you mean by that? " Phasma inquired, her brows furrowing subtly as if in concern.
" Its just that, I'm used to being the one who would hassle, just to bring things needed for reconstructions and stuff. " You explained with a bitter smile, " That's why, I feel absolutely thankful for these, captain. I can do my job more easily and efficiently. " You added as you smiled at her. Receiving the same stoic expression from Phasma, but the silence made you pause when you both stared at eachother's eyes for a moment.
With a clear of Phasma's throat, she began speaking again. " Is it possible for you to finish my helmet within the day? " Her English accent more pronounced when her helmet is off. " Absolutely. Though, it will take a few hours.. " You said immediately breaking eye contact to look at the helmet, wondering why gazing on her made you feel the flutter of your own heart. You didn't wanna disappoint the Captain of the First Orders, therefore you gotta act quick, afterall, Stormtroopers are never found without their helmet.
As you began fixing their helmet, you could feel their gaze observing your every move. Maybe making sure their helmet wasn't altered or anything. But you felt relieved when they finally seems to let their curiosity get ahead of them and wander in your working space. " When did your passion for mechanics begin? " Phasma decided to break the silence, intending to know more of another female that she'll be often working with. You continued to carefully put the pieces together with precision, " Well.. I'd prefer puzzles and battleships more than dolls when I was a child. " You said, also not knowing where your interests came from.
You've heard words of her to be usually cold, strict, and even demanding. You expected to be scolded and to be demanded from time to time, to be questioned by your own skills, but only received a seemingly awkward silence, neither of you spoke to eachother. Perhaps it was because you were both females..? but there was not much time to think about that when you've got to finish the helmet as soon as possible.
After a few more hours of enduring Phasma's presence and watchful eye, you finally finished with a seemingly brand new helmet. " Can you please try it on, captain? Just to make sure it works finely. " You requested, lifting the helmet for Phasma to see. " And if there's anything you wish me to change or adjust about it.. feel free to let me know. " You added as you watched Phasma put on her helmet, not even realizing you were gawking at her.
Phasma took her time to adjust her helmet and tilt her head side to side. " Feels just right. Thank you, engineer. " She spoke, the helmet working just right that even the voice changer worked just fine. The formality knocked you off, causing a flush on your cheeks to appear. " Please.. just call me Y/n. No need for such names, captain. " You said, the flutter on your chest intensifying.
" But your talent is what makes you deserving to such title, little soldier. "
Little soldier..
The pet name that altered your brain chemistry, staring at Phasma with an emotion you can't comprehend. You knew Phasma wasn't much of a talker, so you just stood there in your own little work place as she left. With the seemingly new name that Phasma had given you instead of calling you with formality or by name. She knew the challenges and struggles of a woman in a male-dominated field, considering she had been through that path. Perhaps that's the reason why she called you little soldier. Her soldier.
--
Unbeknownst to you, lunch had came. Due to the demands of some officers, the deadline schedules of mechanical repairs were tight, explaining why you were basically late for lunch. Your stomach growled at your own negligence, looking at the very few to empty food stalls inside the cafeteria. Unfortunately, you ended up with unappetizing canned food that stormtroopers usually eat. Your face contorted into disgust at the bland, greyish, and gooey substance. It ruined your mood to eat, and went back to your working station immediately, even though your stomach was basically pleading for some kind of food source. Upon returning to the garage, you found a tray of food that was seemingly left just for you. You didn't waste time to immediately chow down due to hunger and the need for some energy source considering the amount of work loads for today. The thought of someone actually potentially poisoning you had been thrown out of the window considering it was all too late and you were halfway through your mushroom stew. Little did you know Phasma had always been keeping a watchful eye on you.. she had already saved up that tray specifically just for you. Already predicting you would be late for lunch.
As the day wore on, you find some of your stuff increasingly go missing and completely given up on trying to find them. Having to force you to borrow on some knowingly overzealous officers. " Hey.. Gabe, can I borrow your screwdriver? My tools have been going missing, I swear someone's playing a prank on me. " You lightly attempted a joke to ease the already tense atmosphere in the busy repairing warehouse. The officer gave you a threatening glare for you audacity to speak to him. The silence was deafening but you needed that screwdriver, not backing down with your polite smile (it's pretend, it's best this way) and almost pleading gaze.
Phasma's towering figure from afar behind your back was immediately spotted by Gabe, and with just a tilt of the Captain's helmet was enough for the officer to purfusely sweat in nervousness, not wanting to get in trouble. " Here. Just take everything in this damn tool box and don't come back to me ever again. " He hastily said, giving a toolbox that had all the required items you needed. Before you could even thank the officer, he was already out of your sight. If looks could kill, Gabe, the officer, knew he would be dead. Even with Phasma's helmet, you could basically feel that intense gaze of hers.
Oblivious to Phasma's constant (and discreet) presence, you continued with your work. Failing to notice how even from far away, Phasma was watching. To how your brows furrow in concentration, to how quick your hands would move, and to how quickly you can figure out what's wrong with the blasters. As much as the captain hated to admit it, she found you increasingly addictive to watch.. plus, you were incredibly interesting.
The following days of working for the imperial military had progressively got easier. You'd always find your missing stuff magically appearing the next day, or when Captain Phasma (the presence you have quickly grown accustomed to) always seems to come in the right time when you need help during her patrol. Often times, she would summon stormtroopers to help you lift the heavy objects to be added in the new model of a battleship. You can't find the right time to thank her though, since she'll always be suddenly gone whenever you wanted to do so.
--
One day, you had an official work order outside of the repairing station, you were tasked to fix the malfunctioning machines controlling the blasters of the main ship. You bumped into one of the officers, stumbling slightly backwards as your tools dropped on the floor. " Watch where you're going, girl. Wait- what are you doing here, in this bridge? " The officer snapped at you with an irritated response. The feeling of fatigue finally hits you due to your already busy day, and this interaction wasn't helping your mood at all. " Move. I'm in need for repairs. " You replied bitterly as you picked up the scattered tools on the floor.
" You know that you aren't allowed to be crossing this bridge without a pass. That's a major offense." He said with a scoff, as if your whole presence annoys him. You stood up at him with an equally offended glare, " Oh I'm sorry, does my presence threaten your small little brain too much? That my valid working permit irritates that massive ego of yours, officer? " You snapped at him, returning the rudeness, making his eyes flare with anger.
Grabbed by the collar harshly, you were slammed to the wall with a great force, making you yelp in pain and resistance. " Oh? Does the little princess here have no respect now? " The officer basically spat out, " Let me go you jerk! " You tried kicking him in defense, but since he was basically larger than you, he had the upper advantage. " Maybe if you'd kept the tongue of yours tied, then I would. " He said as he basically dragged you harshly to the decks. You were in pain, panic and worry written all over your face since he was grabbing so roughly by the collar of your uniform, you can barely breathe for air nor even stand up properly.
" Learn your fucking place, woman. " The officer threw you in the empty storage room, just below the decks. Your body rolled unto the floor roughly, and tried to escape with all your speed and might but the door slammed right in front of you.
" Let me out of this place! Hey! I have work to do, come on man! " You pleaded and slammed your hands on the door in both anger and frustration. But to no avail, the overzealous officer left you alone inside that space. You tried everything.. from screaming for help, kicking the door, to trying to break the door with stuff you thought were heavy inside the storage room. You were stuck in a cold storage room that doesn't seem to be even part of the Stormtroopers patrol area.
You sat down on the cold metal floors, head against the steel door. " Someone.. please.. help.. it's freezing in here. " You said with a swallowed sob, fighting the tears that threatened to spill your cheeks. You had no idea why was it freezing cold inside this storage room, maybe it was because of how it seems unused at all. The environment was making you even more weak, considering you haven't eaten anything once again. In your vulnerable state, you absentmindedly knocked on the door with your freezing hand from time to time. " Someone.. anyone.. help.." The cold making you shiver and throat absolutely run dry. " Please.. don't leave me here. " You were exhausted, and thirsty, body basically in survival mode.. Finally, fatigue hugged over you like a cold blanket. The cold seeping in your uniform. And you found yourself falling into the abyss of sleep..
--
A stormtroopers loud footsteps knocked you out of your long nap.. your body felt like a frozen meat, your lips were dry as the desert. But adrenaline rushed through your blood, and instincts made you knock on the door frantically. " Is someone out there?! Help me! Please! Have mercy please! " Your voice raspy and basically pleading for some source of water.
" Y/n? " A familiar voice.. but your brain was too weak to even work at this vulnerability.
" Yes! It's me, please! Help me! "
" Don't be near the door, y/n. I'm going to break it open. "
" ..okay.. okay. " With a quivering breath, you picked yourself up. Flinching at the sound of the door being frantically slammed over and over again, you were finally being able to breath a sigh of relief when a familiar stormtrooper found you.
" Captain.." You said with such vulnerability you had to fight back a sob, shivering at the contact of Phasma's equally cold armour. " Goodness. You're freezing. " Phasma decided that it was not the best time to ask too much considering your state. Biting back to the question Who in their right mind would lock you up in here?
" Can you stand? " She inquired, Phasma quickly moved into the room to find something at least to help you in your freezing state. " I-I think.. so? " You said, quivering, your eyes growing heavy once again. " Just don't. " It was more of a demand, Phasma quickly grabbed some sort of plastic to wrap around you and somehow keep you warm. She was acting quickly.. not wanting to see you suffer any longer, and without further much, she carried you like you weighted nothing. " You're cold. I'm taking you to the medical bay. " Phasma noted, a hint of concern under her usually stern voice.
" No.. please.. " For some reason, the thought of being around people scared you. Your pointer finger vulnerably hooking into a gap on Phasma's helmet, near the neck area as she carried you though the halls. Your eyes told everything that Phasma needed to know.. the vulnerability, and the fear of the uncertainty.
" Okay. But I'm taking you tomorrow to the medical bay. Wether you like it or not. " Phasma said with her usual strict and demanding voice, her direction changing to go into her own quarters, where she will be taking care of you for the night. Making you snuggled unto the plastic wrapped around you in relief for some kind of warmth.. The captain let's you lay your head against her chest, pulling you protectively closer when stormtroopers came into view. The First Order Troopers specifically held a questionable gaze, but who would really dare question the literal captain about their strange behavior? That's right. No one.
" You're safe now.. my little soldier. "
And with those words, you drifted off to sleep. Under the arms of your protector, your savior.

And with those words, you drifted off to sleep under her protection.

Summary: Unbridled Rage.
November 6th, 1856
There will be no salvation for me.
Time and time again, she came back to me. She begged for my love and what did I do? I called her a harlot. I degraded her and told her she was tarnishing my family reputation.
Marjory refuses to speak to me and I cannot blame her. I hate myself as well. I know this is due to the hatred I have for myself due to my love of the fairer sex. I thought I had stamped out the flame of internal hate when I began loving the seamstress, but yet it was still glowing bright within me each time that sweet face brightened my doorstep.
I am tortured as I relive those moments. She told me she regretted ever loving me. How I must have caused her such agony for her to ever say such a thing.
This household is my personal hell. My only friend finds me despicable, my brother is proud of me for ‘remaining strong in my virtues,’ and my one true love hates my entire being. She deserves so much better than me, but I feel the need to rush to her and apologize. I want to crawl on my hands and knees through the depths of Hell in order to prove my repentance. She must understand that I have meant none of what I have said.
Far too long, I have been held under my brother’s control. I must break free of this hold. I am not who I wish to be when he is near. I am not the woman my darling little violet deserves when I give his opinion more weight than is deserved.
I must find her. I must fall to my knees and let her know she is my one and only true love. I must do everything in my power to earn back her trust and love.
- J.M.
It had been over a week since Jane had seen you last. She could hardly eat, nor sleep, since her brother arrived nearly two weeks ago. The only task she found herself capable of was to reread her diary over and over, reminiscing the love you had shared.
After tonight’s diary entry however, she was feeling far less helpless. Her words filled her with a new sense of urgency - the need to be at your side and beg for forgiveness.
The next morning she awoke with the same vigor, gathering herself as best she could. She pinned her hair into place, put on her best dress, and gathered some of your favorite flowers from her garden before striding down the gravel walkway towards the shop. Her knees felt as though they would give out at any moment, her breathing rapidly increasing the closer she got to you. Her mind raced with every possibility, good and bad; you forgave her, you didn't forgive her, you loved her still, you hated her, you rushed into her arms, you spat in her direction-
Whatever the outcome, she knew she was responsible for it, and now it was her time to fight for you.
The shop loomed over her, and she felt a great weight in her chest just looking at it. She briefly recalled the first time she stepped foot inside, the first time she met you; how her heart had stuttered, her cheeks had flushed, how she couldn't get you out of her thoughts no matter how hard she tried. In this moment she longed for those early days, carefree and falling in love.
Unsure whether she was still welcome to use the back entrance, she chose instead to enter through the front door, the bell above it seeming far too loud. The shop was quiet, and Jane was surprised to see your workbench empty.
Much emptier than usual.
Odd.
She waited for a few moments, her stomach twisting in knots at the thought of seeing you again, still unsure what your reaction to her would be after she'd been so cruel-
"You're too late, I'm afraid."
The thick scottish drawl pulled her attention towards the back of the shop, where Mary was cleaning up after a day's work.
"I'm sorry?"
Mary laughed, continuing to wipe down surfaces and tidy up loose threads and needles.
"Well, perhaps if you'd said those words a little sooner you wouldn't be in the mess you are now, now would ye?"
Jane held her tongue against the blunt retort that lay on it. She knew she was in the wrong, and if getting to you meant getting through those around you, then so be it.
"Well, I'm here now, with every apology I can think of prepared. Is- Would I be able to see her? Please?"
The "please" caught Mary off guard- Jane Murdstone was not one to ever start or end a request with "please". Mary felt her resolve soften towards Jane, only a little, enough to be more upfront with her.
"Unless you're willing to hop aboard the next train, I'm afraid not Lass. She left for France shortly after you two had your final falling out. Said she couldn't live in a place where you existed and didn't love her anymore."
Jane had to steady herself on the nearest wall, a sudden wave of nausea overcoming her at Mary's words.
But I do love her.
I love her, I love her, I love-
"Thank you, Matron."
Jane all but stumbled out of the shop, the flowers she held in her hand tossed to the dirt as she strode back home.
You'd left. You were gone without so much as a goodbye- and why would you say goodbye to her? All of the cruel, hurtful words she'd thrown at you, the way she'd turned her back on you; she'd left you first. No explanation. No closure. The only difference was you'd seen fit to separate the two of you by countries. Could she really fault you for that, after all she'd done to you?
Upon returning to her cottage, the ravenette slammed the door behind herself. Her hands repeatedly combed over her hair, frantically thinking over what Mary had told her. How could you have gone all the way to Paris in a matter of days? Perhaps if she were to speak with Marjory, she could-
“Where have you been?”
The voice startled Jane from her thoughts and she was immediately filled with unbridled rage as she lay her eyes on the intruder who had opened her front door: Edward Murdstone.
“I find that it is really none of your business where I have been.”
Edward strode into the room, almost as if it was his own home, “Lord Barclay was here waiting to meet you Jane, but you deliberately ran off, no doubtably to commit some heinous sin.”
“Lord Barclay? Whatever for?” Jane snarled, remembering the older gentleman from moments in passing when he came to work with Edward.
“To marry you, of course.”
Jane saw red.
“You bastard! How-” Jane’s hands found the upper right hand corner of the bookshelf, and with a flourish of extreme strength, the ravenette pulled the ornately carved bookshelf to the floor. The right side of the shelf hit the wood table a few feet away, both pieces of furniture cracking and splitting upon impact. The sound of shattering glass of picture frames and the loud thuds of books hitting the floor filled the air, but none of it was as loud as the silent rage that radiated from Jane. The raging woman finally finished her thought as the sounds died down, “DARE YOU?!”
Edward was taken aback, unable to respond to his sister's rage; never had he seen her act in such a manner.
Jane’s volume only increased, her voice a full fledged scream, “YOU TOOK HER FROM ME! YOU ROBBED ME OF LOVE! AND NOW YOU DO THIS?! Are you so desperate in your need to control me that you must ruin my life at every turn?” She was snarling and spitting as she kicked though the mountain of books, wading closer to her brother.
“I-I-”
“ANSWER ME!” Jane roared, reaching out to a nearby decorative hurricane lamp, pushing it to the floor with a swift motion resulting in a crash of glass shattering.
Edward’s choice of response was to yell in return, grasping Jane by her wrist in an effort to keep her from breaking anything further, “Pull yourself together!”
“PULL MYSELF TOGETHER? HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO PULL MYSELF TOGETHER WHEN YOU CONTINUE TO KEEP ME FROM LOVE? I am so lonely, Edward... or at least I was until I MET HER AND YOU FORCE ME TO SEND HER AWAY. For what, Edward? Why?” Jane’s tone fluctuated as her thoughts flew from her mouth, tears beginning to spill from her eyes at the pure anger and sorrow she felt. She wasn’t withholding anything from her brother any longer. Today, he was receiving the full force of her wrath, “First it was Sarah, and then Elizabeth, and then mother and you forced me into a-a SOLITARY CONFINEMENT where I was forced to be at your side as you made a mockery of father’s name.”
With two long strides, Jane crossed the room of her home, eyes settled in on the China cabinet as she was determined to destroy every last bit of beautiful ceramics in her home.
Edward followed after her, his own rage building at her insinuation that he could be a disgrace to their family name, “You are the one making a mockery of our family’s name by- by... choosing to be so unnatural!”
His hand wrapped around her forearm, and in her frenzied rage, Jane’s free hand swung around at full force, clawing at her brother’s face and sending him to the floor. She loomed over him, her mind racing as she searched for an additional way to harm him. Jane needed him to understand the agony she felt inside.
Swiftly she gathered two of the fallen books from the floor, lifting the novels over her head and launching them downwards at her brother, “UNNATURAL? UNNATURAL? DO YOU THINK I WOULD HAVE FACED YEARS OF INCCESTANT ABUSE FROM YOU AND MOTHER IF I HAD CHOSEN TO BE LIKE THIS?”
Edward shifted away from Jane, scrambling across the floor as the books hit him. He was in utter fear of his sister. He had no excuses for his past or present behavior, and even if he did, Edward knew Jane had no true interest in hearing them. He had yet to notice the blood dripping down the side of his face from where Jane had struck him.
“GET OUT!” Jane blared, her voice becoming raw and hoarse from screaming louder than she ever had before. She repeated those same two words as she reached out and lifted piece after piece of fine China, throwing each of them against the far wall, “GET OUT! GET OUT! GET OUT-”
When Edward lifted himself from the cottage floor he launched himself towards the front door, quickly throwing it open and spinning back to attempt to steal back some of the power away from his sister, “You will marry Lord Barclay by the end of the month and that is final.”
His bravery was only momentary as he quickly slammed the front door shut, saving himself from the pieces of china being hurled towards him. As Edward stalked away from the home, he could hear Jane’s screaming from inside, but her words were hard to make out. Her cries of despair and the sounds of breaking glass and furniture would continue far into the night as Jane mourned for the loss of her love and freedom.
