hey guys follow-up post because i reread Batman Secret Files

So in that comic the facility where the Thomas' are staying (still under the influence of the toxin) are attacked and Duke's mom goes missing, the photo I've added shows Doug being relocated, his expression confirming they still have the toxin. And Batman Urban Legends follows up on this through Duke trying to (and successfully) find his mom and subsequently curing her (also shown).

With both we don't get an explanation on who attacked the facility and why as well as how Doug is doing.

and since DC loves Duke, we never see his parents again or anything else that they set up in Secret Files

So this is just going to be a long spiel on who Duke Thomas is and all the information we know about him in the comics. I mostly just made this to give writers and batfam fans a summary on this character or to inform fans of this guy without needing to read through many comics. This is not a post discouraging headcannons, you can use this information or you can take it with a grain of salt. Well that's enough from me, I hope you enjoy!

His age in reference to the other batfam members. Although we don't have a canon age for him, he is shown to be in high school, I assume his second year, but we don't actually see much of his school life. He is around 2 years younger than Tim and 3 years older than Damian but you can correct me.

Duke was not adopted by Bruce. HOWEVER he was taken in as a ward, just like Dick. He has living parents and family like Steph and no one considers her a Wayne (actually, people do but I guess they're just weird /jk)

He does not live at the manor, he lives in the Narrows. I did this whole thing already, His legal guardian is his older cousin Blah Blah Blah just read this thing i wrote

His parents are literally cured. This is actually a pretty recent addition so I don't blame people for not knowing but yeah, his parents are fine. I'm not sure what this means for Duke because DC just loves him so yk...

His powers. Well to start, his powers include Photokinesis, Ghost Vision (seeing into the past), Cosmic Perception, X-Ray Vision, Telescopic Vision, Microscopic Vision, Invisibility, Umbrakinesis, Shadow Absorption, Shadow Generation, Shadow Bending, Shadow Traversal, Photo-Umbrakinesis, Power Amplification (of other metas) and Accelerated Healing. And, he awoke to his powers AFTER becoming Signal (surprising, I know!). Additionally, His mom does have the metagene, so yes he is a meta but! his biological father, Gnomon is an immortal albeit, not very clearly established. We don't know what effects this has on Duke, whether he will become immortal or something but people have wrote some really interesting explorations of this idea.

His suit and everything were designed by Bruce. Duke didn't actually ask to be bright yellow but at least he got to name himself, in memory of his mother.

We Are Robin. Okay let's see, vigilante group, kids from all over Gotham, started by Alfred, still exists in canon just not as the team we know (Dax, Riko, Izzy, Dre) Speaking of, the WAR kids have been sent to Arkham Juvie, Duke and Izzy are dating and Dax & Riko are meta vigilantes now and they hate Duke for 'betraying' them and becoming a Bat.

soooo i have some options on the new dc game, dc worlds collide

disclaimer i haven't played it yet and I really dont plan to

right now it's really looking like a remake of their previous mobile game dc dark legion that came out four months ago

because both visually look the same to me just in different orientations and both are turn based strategy rpgs

how are you going to make the exact same game 4 months after your last one came out and flopped

guys hear me out on this but a COMPUTER dc FIGHTING game no more of this mobile strategy fluff

you don't have to go for the marvel rivals route what im imagining is more like street fighter or tekken where it looks more 2d

and yeah throw in whatever gacha dlc bs you want just please let me cook ive had enough of these turn based strategy rpgs just please please please make a fighting game

idk where to say this but when i watched the jl animated series and i found out hawk girl was wearing a mask and that wasn't actually her face the freak in me cried a little

so senior pt interviews were a few days ago (yes ive been meaning to write this yes ive been procrastinating) and my english teacher brought up the fact i was third in my year (in my prestigious selective school 🤓<- no one asked) and she commented "you must read a range of texts"

well you see... the only books i read are school assigned however, i am an avid ~ indie webnovel~ enjoyer cough cough i only read fanfiction

so moral of the story is fanfiction is a perfectly reasonable piece of literature to read and it should count as reading a book

i dont get why fanfiction gets such a bad rep even though it's a type of fanart. even some famous books are actually just fanfiction of another series (a well known example being 50 shades of grey originally being twilight fanfiction). i guess fanfiction is know for being badly written fantasies by teenage girls but if you look into particular fandoms with a mostly adult fanbase the works there can honestly be quite beautiful.

Aside from the writing thing, i think the main reason i love fanfiction so much is tied to how i consume media in general. like it's hard for me to pick up a book or show out of nowhere, i have to have some idea about why i would theoretically like it. And when i do get into a game or series, i become obsessed, i watch spinoffs, i read light novels. So it makes sense thati'd want to read about my favourite series and about character's i'm already familiar with. Continuing on that point, i think fanfiction is really interesting in how people can share their own interpretations on how characters act or 'what if' situations where the only limit is your creativity.

so in conclusion, fanfiction should be considered (if not already) a legitimate form of literature, It allows writers to explore ideas and storylines, using already existing characters as a guide as well as having an established fanbase

Headcanon that Damian calls Duke his little brother (like Fransika von Karma does with Miles Edgeworth) because he joined the family later. Also because he just hates being the "baby" of the family.

So he's like "Yeah, I'm hanging out with my younger brother Duke later today." to like Maps or Maya. And their like "Oh, I haven't met him before. But that checks out."

And then Duke comes in and he's just a bit younger than Tim and Steph while Maya/Maps was expecting a 4-10 year old.
