I LOVE how uniquely Riko sees the world. How when the story is told from her perspective even the art style changes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I want more of her internal world. It’s so interesting.
Plus she’s just a cool character in general and I like her fighting style.
And the band jacket she still wears despite leaving because of her performance anxiety!!!!
I think she’s my favorite We Are Robin character.

The idea that Duke is the super well-behaved and rule-following kid is really funny to me cause like, have you read Robin War? His bit in that book opens with him being arrested for wearing red shoes (long story, just know he was also wearing a red hoodie that apparently wasn't a problem) and he explains step by step to the cop exactly how he plans on escaping before executing that escape perfectly by jumping off a bridge. He fought an armored Jim Gordon, the Court of Owls, and Damian who had been manipulated into joining the Court. Duke managed to talk Damian down while getting his ass kicked and then kinda befriended the kid after. He also has defied Batman several times and was proven to be right. All with a healthy dose of sass.
But also I do like lil rule-following sweetheart Duke so I have a proposal. Duke Thomas who follows the rules he agrees with. Most of the time, he's the sweet little angel in the manor. He's polite, he's well-mannered, he's kind, and he does what he's told. However that's only because everything aligns with what he believes to be the right path. The moment Bruce makes a bad call or order, Duke takes it to 11 and becomes more impossible to order around than Jason. Chaotic Good Duke.

Before they knew PolyWar was a thing members of the BatFam who had met the members had a favourite they wanted Duke to date
Damian & Bruce had Izzy
Jason & Harper had Daxton
Tim & Dick had Andre
Babs & Steph had Riko
Cass said all of the above & was laughed at but that Pride when Duke came out as being polyamorous she got the last laugh.
Alfred had thought it was Claire Clovers because he misinterpreted their queerplatanic relationship as being a romantic one & was shocked
Also Bruce tried dissuade Duke from dating Andre (a mob kid) & Daxton (Joe Chill's son or grandson who was a villain for a bit) due to their ties to crime but got shot down when he was reminded that Izzy's brother had been a gangster too.

Been on motorcycle tiktok… thinking about these two f-ing around on their motorcycles…
Duke: There’s a cop
Jason: Just drive away it’s fine
Duke: No s*** I’m already on the other side of the city
Bruce: We’re on the same side of the police, even if they’re corrupt we’re all for justice
Duke, a Robin during the Robin War, a motorcyclist, and a black teenager: Uh huh. Of course
Dick: There’s a motorcyclist going 200 in Crime Alley
Jason: Damn, that’s me
Dick: Sick, do a wheelie

I don't really like the debate about Duke Thomas on if he's the "normal one" or "just as crazy" as his siblings because it's based on a false dichotomy that limits Duke's characterization in a fandom that already doesn't really know where to place him. The long story short is that Duke is like his siblings which is to say he does whatever based off of his sense of morality and he often has no scale of normal human behavior.
I'm pretty sure that the idea of him as the normal one comes from Wayne Family Adventures. (Though if this predates it in fandom please let me know). WFA chooses to play into his newness to give insights into the dynamics of Wayne manor and the larger batfamily.
I don't necessarily think this is a bad choice. I'm pretty giving to adaptations because it's hard to summarize 80+ years of comics into an easily digestible form. However, it was clearly written by a team who didn't have much insight on what to do with Duke outside of that, so his newness and uncertainty become his characterization and by extension him being the "regular one" in the family. The fandom that hasn't engaged with Duke outside of WFA run with that.
Which leads to jokes, skits, and fics where Duke is not only misrepresented but underrepresented. In a family filled with weird people with distinct dynamics what's the new, normal guy to do but sometimes stand in a corner and throw in a responsible one liner.
As a response people get frustrated with Duke's lack of inclusion in fics, skits, and jokes, so they bring up all the things that prove he's just as wild as his siblings (such as getting shot and thinking it's cool or jumping out of a cop car though my personal favorite is when he breaks into the iceberg lounge). However, without context this still isn't Duke. He doesn't just do insane things for the response he has a very clear characterization.
Duke is a child genius who has a huge problem with authority, primarily motivated by helping his community (though in the time between his parents disappearance and goign to live with Bruce he is a bit of an adrenaline junkie as a coping mechanism).
So, if we revisit some of the actions listed above:
Duke gets shot and thinks it's cool: This is Duke in his peak adrenaline junkie time, when he's riding the high of We Are Robin and all the potential negative consequences of superherodom haven't settled in yet. (This is also the period of time when he's getting into fights and is a bit of a playboy).
Duke jumps out of a cop car: This is Duke with his problem of authority (particularly cops) especially when they are trying to stop him from doing what he thinks is right. In this case, stopping him from We Are Robin duties. (This is also why he sneaks out of his foster homes looking for his parents).
Breaking into the iceberg lounge: This is peak Duke. It's him using his genius intellect to crack open a case and because he refuses to ignore it when he can help chasing the lead himself. It's also a little bit his adrenaline junkie sense as he's absolutely more reckless when there's a lot of external pressures.
TLDR: Duke is not the normal one. He's also not just a series of his wildest actions. He's a 16 year old, who wants to help the world and his own way of going about that, wether that's within or outside of our conception of normal behavior.

Depending on who you ask Robin could be 1 person, 5 people, 6 people, 34 people, or hundreds of people. And honestly you can really see where they’re all coming from. Except for the people who think there’s only four. How does it feel to be wrong.

Also, I'd like to see more of Duke and Alfred's relationship. I mean the whole reason Duke joined the We are Robins movements and eventually became The Signal was because Alfred recruited him.
Or even his disappointment and resentment in Bruce and most adults in general. In the We are Robin run he was fully “These adults aren’t shit, Batman included, so I guess I’ll do it my self.” And he did. HE found his parents. Not batman. Not GCPD. Him. As far as he’s concerned, his assumption was right. Yeah its a bit generic but it’s literally anything is better than nothing.

I absolutely love seeing how everyone interprets Jason and Tim’s relationship across the comics, animations, and shows. The headcanons, fanon interactions, and AU twists are always so creative, fuck even when they stray far from the source material.
That said, when people portray Jason as hating Tim or holding a grudge against him, or Tim being wary or resentful over the whole Titans Tower incident… I get it, I’m not against those takes, I’m even kind of into it. But we all know that’s not exactly canon, right? It’s hella funny to explore the tension, but let’s not forget pretend that that’s canon. Cuz their relationship in the comics is more like:
Red Hood and the Outlaws (2011) in the issue #8.

This is from a crossover but specifically from We Are Robin in the issue #7.

Spoiler alert:
Tim is not actually dead
