Info dump - Tigers Sniff the Rose (尚公主)

So I found this 电视剧拍摄制作备案公示表 (which is called a "Record-filing and announcement form on the shooting and production of a TV drama") for "Tigers Sniff the Rose":

According to this form the drama will have 40 episodes. Filming date has been pushed, obviously, since both Xiaolin and Ziyi were filming other dramas at that time. That's a decent amount of episodes since there are so much to cover from the novel and we want our characters to have fleshed out background stories and the storytelling is telling. And also due to the fact that each ep will only be 45 min (unlike kdramas where an ep is around 75 min).

Since the casting announcement, all sorts of dates has been going around about when the booting ceremony will occur and when the script reading will take place. Xiaolin mentioned on a recent live stream, the filming will be in the second half of the year and Ziyi said on today's 2025 Tencent Investment Conference that it will be after she is done filming for "Blossoms of Power" (which I think is soon since she have been filming since the beginning of April - will probably wrap up in July). But she has to wait for Xiaolin since he just started filming for "Dazzling" at the end of May (I guess it takes 60-90 days to film a modern drama). So everything points to August/September. I've also seen many saying that the filming duration will be around 5 months (~150 days).

It's a historical romance if you haven't noticed it from the concept posters. But it's not only that! A heavy portion of it is also about:

Spicy court politics

和亲 Heqin (=marrying off a princess in an attempt to pacify minority ethnic groups in the border areas - that's what our female lead had to endure when she was 16, it was a very horrible and traumatised experience and she managed to escape after killing her husband) This is more like a flashback since we start off the novel with Mu Wan Yao having escaped not to long ago and she is 18)

Crown prince rival with his two brothers to inherit the throne

A stone-cold Emperor who is slowly losing his mind after killing off his Empress (due to the fact that she has a powerful aristocratic family and don't want them to control the court, despite loving her)

The eunuchs rise in power (the forefront man was once our male lead's friend, before he was castrated by an aristocrat)

The conflict between 世家 (= Aristocracy) that are supported by the royalty and 寒门 (=Commoner), our FL, Mu Wan Yao, is part of the royal family and our ML, Yan Shang, is a commoner

The "family" dynamic between the princess, the princes and their father, the Emperor

This was not a part of the official announcement but the styling in the drama will be done by Huang Wei (who has done styling for among others "A Dream of Splendor" and "Till The End Of The Moon"). The drama setting will be leaning towards Tang Dynasty so expecting costumes from that era.

I'm quite excited about this movie actually! It's been ages since I've seen a Jackie Chan movie and can't wait to see how Wen Jun Hui will perform in this. I saw a sneak peak clip of him have a fighting sequence against Jackie and it peaked my interest.

Beside those two we also have Zhang Zi Feng, Tony Leung (Ka-fai and not Chiu-wai) and Ci Sha part of the cast.
