“Cody.” Obi-Wan breathed a sigh of relief. Whatever was happening, they could figure it out. “Are you alright?” He offered his hand to help Cody up; he took it almost hesitantly, surprise coloring his otherwise cold face.

In the space of a breath, Cody was standing, one hand still clutching Obi-Wan’s, the other holding a blaster pointed straight at Obi-Wan’s chest.

Earlier today we announced to the press that we are running a beta test program for Post+, Tumblr’s newest add-on subscription tool. Post+ is a completely optional tool that will allow creators to make some of their posts exclusive to their paid subscribers. You can read more about it right over here on our @postplus Tumblr. This feature is being tested by a small group of incredible creators on Tumblr.

We want to hear about what you like, what you love, and what concerns you. Even if it’s not very nice. Tell us. We can take it. We WANT that feedback. It helps us make Tumblr better.

What we won’t ever accept is the targeted harassment and threats these creators have endured since this afternoon. These creators are some of the most talented people around, and all they’re doing is testing out a feature. These are the people who graciously agreed to pilot a program to help us discover bugs before we open it up to all creators. These are the humans who are testing a feature that we hope will soon help thousands of Tumblr creators feel empowered, get rewarded for their efforts, and find support within their community.

Our Community Guidelines are clear: Don't engage in targeted abuse, bullying, or harassment.

Anyone in violation of these guidelines will be dealt with swiftly and will be forced to contend with the appropriate consequences. It’s okay to tell us how you feel. It’s not okay to bully someone because you disagree with their choices.

In light of the recent PostPlus nonsense tumblr is trying to pull, here's a reminder that monetization of fanfiction can lead you to legal trouble. On Ao3 it's against the TOS to even mention any money-sending site at all because of the conditonal protection they offer.

Putting your entire fanfiction blog behind a paywall is like pointing a neon sign saying "please sue me". I bring this up specifically because tumblr mentioned fanfiction in the post that they made and that is going to leave a lot of people misinformed.

Remember: Do NOT paywall your fanworks.

And rest assured, my blog will never be pay-to-read, even if this weren't a fanfiction blog. I think the whole thing is ridiculous.

also, last note on the post plus thing from me rn, but like….i’m pretty sure there’s a lot of legal issues with paying fic writers to see their content. i’m not that old to know the huge legal cases regarding fic, but…there’s a reason why fic writers used to (and some still do!) put out disclaimers about how they don’t own the franchise/characters etc. literally fic writers could get into so much legal trouble for putting up a paywall for people to view their blog and work.

so like. if you want to ensure your local fic writers don’t wind up getting into a load of legal trouble which they most CERTAINLY don’t have the money to deal with right now, please make your voice heard and find other ways to support fic writers like reblogging their work. i assure you. fic writers (even the broke tired ones like me) do not want this whatsoever.
