Rewatching Catching Fire as part of my Hunger Games franchise rewatch and I had completely forgotten about Haymitch’s line about Mags in response to Katniss basically saying yeah everyone knows she’s going to die Finnick’s not going to protect her which he says ‘when she does, I hope she goes quickly, she’s actually a wonderful person’ and he looks all sad for a second and I had to pause the the film because I got hit with feels because NOW WE FUCKING KNOW THAT SHE WAS HAYMITCH’S MENTOR 25 YEARS AGO ALONG WITH WIRESS AND SHE REALLY IS AS WONDERFUL AS HAYMITCH SAID SHE IS!
Honestly the whole Hunger Games franchise is now a lot more sadder if you look at it from Haymitch’s perspective now, knowing what we know even though we’ve just got his book for now and not his film, watching and picking up on all these things in films surrounding Haymitch that didn’t seem consequential at the time are now just heartbreaking.
If you just focus on Haymitch in the films with the context of the book Sunrise on The Reaping (because the film will it’ll largely be the same plot) there’s so much in the films that you don’t realise happens with him.
The major one is I’ve seen pointed out is him watching the Capitol children with the toy sword in The Hunger Games but I picked out another interesting detail from the first film when I was rewatching that a few days ago (the day I finished sunrise on the reaping) and that is the tribute parade.
In that scene there’s a shot of Haymitch, the only shot of Haymitch we have in that scene to show us he’s there in the audience, and he looks down and away from the camera, like he doesn’t want to be there, and yeah obviously he doesn’t, and it was probably just an inconsequential directing decision from Gary Ross or acting decision from Woody Harrelson but now imagine this with the context of Sunrise on The Reaping, Haymitch is probably going through it, he most likely hates the parade, it’s almost certainly incredibly traumatic for him to just be there year after year after what happened at the second quarter quell tribute parade, how he almost died and he lost Louella, his little sister figure (who I will remind everyone Katniss reminded him of when saw her around the Hob when she was younger and is the reason why he calls Katniss ‘Sweetheart’) in a crash at the parade.
Yeah this turned into a ramble but basically rewatch the films after reading Sunrise on the Reaping makes Haymitch so much sadder.
Just to cheer everyone up also Snow’s ‘interest’ in the mockingjay pin when he’s crowning Katniss and Peeta at the victory ceremony is honestly hilarious when you know that he has a ongoing reoccurring thing about beefing with sixteen year olds from district 12 with connections to mockingjays all because he can’t get over his ex girlfriend (who was an indirect ancestor to Katniss) from 64 years ago 😂

knowing that haymitch calling katniss 'sweetheart' was him finally allowing himself to love again after years of pushing away anything and anyone the capitol could use against him but this time around he fought tooth and nail to make sure that he didn't lose his sweetheart again

Katniss: Haymitch would be pissed off at me for taking a 12 year old as an ally
Meanwhile Haymitch in his own games: *has honor issues with bunnies because he considers them allies and they're the same colour as his girlfriend's name*

One thing I haven’t seen people talking about is right at the Quarter Quell Reaping, Burdock Everdeen saves Otho Mellark from getting shot. Otho Mellark who stands there in shock confusion and terror, gets dragged down out of danger by Burdock Everdeen.
KATNISS’ FATHER SAVED PEETA’S FATHER. And nobody is talking about this detail and I am going insane over it! (Actually I’m going insane over a lot of details in the Sunrise on The Reaping book but that’s on me)

You know what? Starting my proper reread of The Hunger Games series today after 10 years since I last collectively read the trilogy ahead of Sunrise on the Reaping releasing in March and getting to the part where Haymitch is introduced drunk on the stage of the reaping was sadder to read after I read the Sunrise On The Reaping sneak peek extract yesterday now knowing that Haymitch was born on reaping day and reaping day is the same date every year.
Like damn I do not blame him at all, I too would get flat out drunk if every year my birthday fell on the day that a) I would be given two kids to mentor with no chance of survival in a brutal game that I won 24 years ago b) was a reminder that I got reaped on my sixteenth birthday which was the end of my life as I knew it and yet I still have to relive that on a yearly basis as I am required to attend the reaping every year as the only living Victor.
On a more positive note I enjoyed the sneak peek we got of Sunrise on the Reaping yesterday, because Haymitch is going to be potentially hilarious and I like him already (I mean he’s always been my favourite adult character in the whole franchise, I’m going to like him no matter what in this book) and has his priorities straight as a teenager (he just wants to be lazy and see his girlfriend).
Also the fact his brother, Sid, is only 10, he’s younger than Prim was….yeah knowing what we know about what happened to Haymitch’s family (aka they were somehow killed by Snow though we don’t know how) I am dreading getting to the bit even more now because I’m pretty sure it’s going to be in there because there’s no way Suzanne Collins will leave out that bit.
Also also Haymitch has another thing in common with Katniss, his father also died in a mining accident when he was younger. The parallels between them are still there. But his mother didn’t completely shut down after it. That’s the difference between them.
Yeah I’m very excited for the new book, I can’t wait until March and am very excited to reread the hunger games books before then.
#the hunger games#sunrise on the reaping#I’m so looking forwards to just seeing how Haymitch gets from typical teenage boy to alcoholic Victor#not in a morbid way#just because I like seeing how characters get from point a to b#I feel like I’m going to like teenage Haymitch a lot#but I’m also scared for what’s going to be revealed about how his family….you know.

Just finished Legend of Vox Machina series 3 and I am NOT OKAY! (Spoilers for the last episode and critical role campaign one)
This is how I’m feeling right now about the final scenes:

My favourite part of campaign one happened (Percy’s revival and Vex’s confession) and it was beautiful in animation. I genuinely love how they’re dealing with death and revival in the show.
But now Vax’s fate at the end of the show entirely is almost certainly sealed and I know that Vax and Keyleth don’t have a happy ending but they’re so happy right now and everyone’s happy even if they’ve all split and that’s not going to last, because Vecna (although they’ll have to change his name in the show) is coming and Vax is gonna die and it’s going to be heartbreaking.
But hey at least Perchalia is sailing now in the show and I’m so glad they did Percy’s revival at the end of episode 12 and didn’t make me wait two-three years or longer for my favourite character to come back.
I really liked this series, it’s different, yeah some things are very different from the original live steam but I liked that. It surprised me and made things make sense for a tv show compared to a 4 hour weekly live stream.
Also Keyleth in the show is just a Druid version of Ben 10 (ironically Ashley Johnson voiced Gwen in Alien Force and Ultimate Alien) whenever she turns into anything like the earth form she did this season, nobody can convince me otherwise.
Anyway I’m listening to the soundtrack now and did not know that Matthew Mercer is the one singing in the song that plays when Percy is lying in Vex’s arms after dying. Fucking Matthew Mercer can literally do everything 😂
#legend of vox machina#lovm spoilers#lovm s3#I love this damn show#so glad we’ve got season 4 confirmed#perchalia is sailing guys!!!#so’s vaxleth but for how long?!#also Vex’s line about them running off to get married was hilarious 😂

I’ve been on a Good Omens rollercoaster tonight let me tell you:
*I go on Insta:*:

Me: what? what?! WHAT?!
*I Google it (couldn’t find the original article on the pratchett estate), I see and read the Variety article*:

Me: OH FUCK?! Okay! 90 minutes! 90 minutes to say goodbye to Good Omens. They Sherlocked it. How are they going to wrap everything up?! Eh, it’s still better than nothing. I wonder how the Tumblr community is holding up?
(She says knowing fully well how tumblr will have handled this news.)
*Goes on tumblr*
most of GO tumblr:

(I 100% agree)
I am also sat on here like:

Then I see/read the actual Pratchett estate article and see this point:

And that made me think before I panic further:
Is Gaiman no longer involved? Yeah. He’s stepped back entirely (he offered that himself, and presumably Amazon took it).
Is the Pratchett Estate no longer involved? I reckon they’ll be involved in some capacity to bring justice to Pratchett’s legacy with the end of Good Omens. It was more his baby than Gaiman’s. They both said Pratchett wrote 75% of it.
Gaiman despite not being part of this series, laid the foundations for it, he’s helped with the writing. as much as we can hate on Gaiman now we have to acknowledge this it means that hopefully Amazon will have listened to him about the ending so that it honours what he and Pratchett set out to do, the story they wanted to tell.
It means that hopefully we’ll get the ending Pratchett and Gaiman but more importantly Pratchett planned all those years ago to a level of satisfaction that is acceptable for everyone.
It’s okay to be angry, sad or whatever, I’m a bit disappointed to be honest as well,
But more importantly whatever happens, to quote David Tennant himself on The Last Leg in 2017:
It’s all going to be okay. 🥂
#good omens#good omens season 3#aziraphale#crowley#everything will be fine#we’re getting season 3#it might not be what we wanted#this is a GOOD thing

LOVM Season 3 Ep 7-9 spoilers:
Still devastated over my favourite character (Percy)’s death (I knew it was going to happen, in the episode called Cloak and Daggers) hours after watching it. Floored they changed it (I loved it, made part one of my favourite moments in campaign one more impactful in the tv show and added more stakes to it and the funeral was beautiful but I was looking forward to the Glintshore fight). I can’t imagine him spending more time with Orthax, it’s too awful (I am imagining exactly that, also Percy beating Orthax up just to cope until he pops back up), Can’t wait for Vex’s ‘I love you’ (it’s going to happen in the next three episodes right?) to save Percy and Ripley’s demise when Vex and the rest of the gang minus Scanlan presumably gets her (KILL HER IN THE NEXT FEW EPISODES PLEASE!)
Can next Thursday come faster please?!

HEY, UH, CAN WE JUST FUCKING TALK ABOUT HOW BORIS FUCKING JOHNSON CONSIDERED INVADING THE NETHERLANDS TO GET VACCINES THAT WERE BEING HELD UP BECAUSE HE FUCKED UP BREXIT?
And how the Daily Mail seems to present the idea as a Good thing? Like do people know the Netherlands have Armed Forces and at best this would result in the UK becoming a pariah on the international stage?
The United Kingdom is fucking clownshoes. Fuck this fucking country.
#uk politics#fuck the tories#why is nobody talking about this#they’re all clowns#also fuck the daily mail

It’s okay to care about things.
These past couple of days i’ve been noticing that a great part of our fandom is being relentlessly shamed for still loving Good Omens and not wanting it to get cancelled, and I thought i’d share my feelings about it, as I myself have been receiving hateful messages and comments because of it.
First and foremost: many people (mostly neurotypical people, but not exclusively) don’t seem to be able to understand the power of fiction. Fiction is the art of translating reality through magical lenses and making it easier to deal with. It’s something that brings people hope, joy, comfort and brings them together even if they’re thousands of miles apart. Fiction is a shoulder to cry on, a portal to escape through and a friend to rely on. Fiction is magic in its own way, and it can (and has!) change the world in countless ways. Whether you have a happy, fulfilled and busy life or you are going through a rough patch, fiction is always there to help you navigate your own journey, and that’s why it means so much to so many people.
Secondly, it’s important that people fully understand that we do not necessarily associate our favorite pieces of fiction with the creators behind them. After JKR and all of the newly outed zionists, it’s becoming more and more clear that art can be appreciated for itself, and not tied to the person who brought it to life. Sometimes, shitty unforgivable people can make incredible things. And, as long as you don’t support or defend these people, it is okay for you to care about things important to you. It’s okay. You aren’t bad for loving something that has brought you comfort and joy.
Besides, there’s a certain power in taking things back. In looking at the person who made it and saying “this is mine now, and you are not going to ruin it for me”. And that is exactly why so many of us want this show to go on. We all want Gaiman fired. He himself has offered to step back because he is not his art and that story isn’t his anymore. It’s ours. Going on without him would only prove that, and it is okay to root for the show to survive after all that has happened. We are human, and humans need fiction. We need our little bit of magic, and that is perfectly okay.
And lastly, I would like to say that I believe in all the allegations. Even if there’s a chance of it being untrue, it’s not in my nature to doubt victims or to take someone’s side blindly just because I think they are good at their jobs. I believe his victims, I want him to pay for his crimes and I would never, ever support him. You can feel both things: despise for him and love for what he’s created alongside Terry Pratchett. You can want both things: for him to go to jail and for the show to go on in spite of him.
It’s okay to feel how you feel, to love what you love and to be vocal about it. It’s okay to advocate for your favorite show, only you know what it means to you and why. If you need to talk, I am here, I see you and I understand.
I promise we’ll be okay. 🩷✨🫶🏻
#good omens#this ^^#I had to go through this with Harry Potter#and I’m going through it again with Good Omens#seeing people bully others for liking something hurts#especially when you are part of the fandom#and love the show#and are autistic and find comfort in it#but they don’t understand#we’ll be okay#to quote David Tennant- everything will be okay
