I had to weigh in on this because I was reading a fic series and it was suddenly gone. The author came back for a month and I've read their reason for departure was people accusing their writing for being AI-generated. And it got so bad. What the F? Are y'all for real. Is it so hard to not harass fanfic authors with assumptions and unhelpful comments? And putting all that labor to be accused of AI generated? The insecurities of some of these folks are mind boggling.

I wanna know where people have lately gotten the audacity to leave comments on fanfics talking about how much the fanfic sucked and negatively critiquing an author's fic like it's a published book review.

It pisses me off cause I've seen authors abandoned or delete their fics because of this.

You're getting fanfics for FREE! No one asked for your opinion.

I hope y'all know as authors we get email notifications when you comment so we see EVERY comment that's been left.

(Medium) Hot Take: "Did the Oath actually condemn Fëanor & his sons to the Everlasting Darkness" is the wrong question because it has a clear textual answer: which is "no."

Did it have the power to do so? That's another question entirely and a fun one to debate.

But did it? Absolutely not.

Because each of the sons of Fëanor (and Fëanor himself) fulfilled their Oath. Nowhere in the various drafts of the Oath is there a version where they call down the Everlasting Darkness if they fail to retrieve a Silmaril. What they actually swear is:

an oath of enmity for ever against any that should hold the Silmarils The Book of Lost Tales, Part One

shall no law nor love nor league of Gods, no might nor mercy, not moveless fate, defend him for ever from the fierce vengeance of the sons of Fëanor, whoso seize or steal or finding keep the fair enchanted globes of crystal whose glory dies not, the Silmarils. they swore an oath [...] calling the Everlasting Dark upon them if they kept it not; [...] vowing to pursue with vengeance and hatred to the ends of the World Vala, Demon, Elf or Man as yet unborn, or any creature, great or small, good or evil, that time should bring forth unto the end of days, whoso should hold or take or keep a Silmaril from their possession. The Silmarillion; Of the Flight of the Noldor

Every version of the Oath that includes the Everlasting Darkness calls it down upon them only if they do not pursue the perceived thief with vengeance and hatred. The only variance from this is in the version from the Annals of Aman where one could conceivably link the Everlasting Darkness with a failure to kill whosoever took a Silmaril. But this version is replaced by the consistent form shown in all other iterations (the same form that is included in the published Silmarillion) and consequently doesn't hold much weight for the argument.

Fëanor and each of his sons (save Maglor who survives the First Age with a Silmaril in his possession) met their ends in pursuit of this exact clause - pursuing those who hold a Silmaril with vengeance and hatred - and consequently dying in fulfilment of their Oath. Which is to say that even if we do hold that the Oath had the power to damn them to the Everlasting Darkness (which it very well may have!), it would not, could not, and did not do so because the terms were met.

And even setting the specific wording of the Oath, the text tells us exactly what happens to one who dies in pursuit of the Oath while still not regaining a single Silmaril: "...[Fëanor's] likeness has never again appeared in Arda, neither has his spirit left the halls of Mandos" (The Silmarillion, Of the Return of the Noldor).

So yes, the Oath might have had the power to send them into the Everlasting Darkness, but it did not have the grounds to do so. And so it did not.

Let me just say from the bottom of my heart. Why TF are you automatically using Farenheit on baking videos?! Thank goodness I caught it on my 5th rewatch. My birthday is coming up and I'd like to bake a cheesecake, got my ingredients and cake mold ready and everything. This is my first time baking one and it's my birthday. If it doesn't come out as perfect, I can just use the Basque excuse and my friends will eat it. Now, I searched a quick tutorial and I found one that I like. It said to put it on 400. Now, because I am with the majority of the world, I thought it to be Celsius. I don't recall my oven at home got a 400 C option though. So I said to myself, Should I buy a new oven? Maybe I can reduce that temperature and still cook right? At 350 C. I'll watch it like a hawk. So as I am prepping all my ingredients and packing my luggage to go home. I rewatched the video again and I had some doubts because 400 C is too much. My gut is telling me it's too much. On my fifth rewatch I caught it. I caught the big F. FARENHEIT! And I remembered the Americans. It was a white font on a lighter background so I didn't see it. How could I forget the AMERICANS? On Youtube! I breathed a sigh of relief but I'm a bit pissed. I imagined setting my oven on max. The possible explosion and scolding from my mother. The burnt cheescake! Wasted ingredients! I hunted for cream cheeses and heavy milk in malls cause I want it to be perfect. Maybe it's my fault cause I stuck to the one tutorial video I saved and really liked but damn, it was a near disaster.

P.s. I should also check the measurements just in case.

the twin prodigies

Just some observations I made about Megane's latest Rota Fortunae crumbs after going back to it over and over again (if you haven't read it yet, go check it out first). Maybe you'll already have noticed most of it, but hopefully not everything. Either way, I really just feel like rambling.

First of all, this is clearly set before their trip to Sunday's shelter. In fact, it's most likely the earliest part of the timeline we've had so far. It's noticeable through the fact Aven just got the glasses and doesn't appear to have the earring he has on his ref sheet and during the animation.

About the earring, if you look at this panel:

You'll notice that Human!Aven (let's call him that for now) has a peacock feathers earrings. It's not exactly the same Android!Aven has, but it's a similar style. Now, there's two conclusions you can make of that: either Android!Aven bought it himself because it fits his style and he most likely subconsciously remembers his past to an extent, or Ratio gave it to him because it reminded him of the one Human!Aven used to wear.

Now, onto this Human!Aven if you will, because how do I know he's human? It's somewhat easy to guess, but there are still some signs: first, his eyes. As an android, Aven's eyes become magenta and cyan when behind glasses, but here it's a reflection. It would seem his human appearance naturally had the Avgin eyes (if Avgins even exist in the Rota Fortunae lore). But there is a second sign that this Aven is human: his wrist.

If you look at this panel, you'll notice Aven's wrist has a joint (weirdly enough, there doesn't seem to be any joints on his elbow, but it's hard to see so maybe Megane just didn't feel like drawing it?) that isn't here on Human!Aven. Now, how did he go from being a human to being an android? We can only speculate on that, but the general guess seems to be that Aven died and Ratio transferred his consciousness in an android body. I love that theory, but only time (and Megane) can tell how right it is.

But I'm not done with my observations! Let's talk about Ratio! Though, I'll keep aside all the speculations about why he refuses to repair Aven himself. It's most likely out of guilt, but we can't know more than that for sure.

Just a silly little thing I noticed about him is that his hair curls when wet. It's such a small detail, but it's really adorable.

But what I mostly wanted to talk about is his tattoo (or whatever it is) because there's something really interesting about it. Let's take these two panels:

If you look closely at how far the tattoo reaches up his neck in the second image, you'll most likely notice that it doesn't appear to be there on the first image. Of course, maybe he just had it tattooed later, and it's a plausible explanation. But there's just something odd about the way Ratio uncovers that specific shoulder in that scene:

Maybe I'm just over interpreting. It's entirely possible. But the way he uncovers his tattooed shoulder like that kind of makes me think that it might be uncomfortable to keep covered. Kind of like when you have a healing scar and you don't like the sensation of the fabric rubbing against sensitive skin. In that case, maybe it's more than just a tattoo? Maybe it holds more meanings in relation to the Android rebellion? After all, there are some laurel symbols on the walls of wherever they are in that scene:

It's most likely linked to a faction such as the Intelligentsia Guild or the Genius Society (I'd lean more towards the former) as Megane suggested in the comments of that thread, but it's still interesting to note that tattoo wasn't there before the rebellion.

Now, a final observation about Aven and his eyes and it's that the brightness of his pupils seems to change depending on the situation:

Funnily enough, it appears to always brighten whenever he looks at Ratio (smitten much) at the exception of that one panel where he plays with Numby. This leads me to believe it might be some sort of emotional response (bright red eyes mean positive emotion and dark red eyes mean negative emotions. If I recall, the androids in the Rota Fortunae animation had dark red pupils) and it's just kind of cute to see how differently he looks at his Doctor.

Anyway, that's enough rambling for now (if only I could come up with that many words when I write my essays). I was supposed to be writing my fanfic's next chapter but I guess that won't be for tonight lmao. Of course, credit for all the images used in that small analysis goes to Megane. so what people have pointed out in the concert trailer (from as far down my tl as i could scroll before it started lagging my browser):

the catcake bouncing around castorice has the detail on the side that makes it clearly the trashcan/trailblazer one

the one ratio picks up doesn't have the trashcan detail; ergo, it's a different catcake

it looks like the one aventurine accidentally stepped on in last year's concert trailer. you know, one of the ones that live with him. in his home

on the right side of stelle, in the direction ratio tosses the catcake, u can see someone's elbow barely in the shot wearing clothing the same brownish-black color as aventurine's usual coat

it doesn't match any of the staff in the next shot

Okay but remember reading a Japanese fangirl theory on the Aventurine scene. She pointed out Open windows, and the open newspaper cause clearly Aventurine reads the news from his tablet. Cue to the theory he's not living alone. There's more but I don't remember the details.

This was a day before the disaster aka the 'Little Mushroom book! It was an amazing book. I fasted for two meals to complete it and stayed up so late. I'll be buying the second physical book although I already read it. The author is amazing. Is there any other work by the same author?

I've recently read the Scum Villain book by MXTX after putting it off for so long. I love the main character of the book, he is so hilarious and unforgettable but I really don't like the main pairing. I like Luo Binghe. I think his life is overall tragic but him getting with Shen Yuan is let me just say, toxic. At the end I think they got together because Shen Yuan pities the Luo Binghe. The power dynamics set me off too. Even for a short time, he was still his teacher.

They say it's an enemy to lovers but if it were that Luo Binghe would've been with Liu Qingge because he was more qualified to the title 'enemy' (I also don't ship that).

That's just my two cents.

Anyway, I'll be reading this little Mushroom book I found on the shelves.

I love Follow up attack okay and I went so long with only Bailu as my built healer. That was why I was desperate for Aventurine. Oh, and my main was Destruction Trailblazer. Didn't even build HMC or PMC. Feixiao was my luckiest pull. Her lightcone came early and sucked out my luck for months. One of my strongest DPS to this day.

I downed 2 cups of black coffee today. Why? Because I stayed up all night reading 'Little Mushroom'. Why did nobody tell me this was NOT a Lighthearted, funny book. Sure I grabbed it for a 'light read', didn't read the reviews or blurb but my mind was running away. I couldn't even eat cause I just have to finish it. The story is superb. I had to sail the high seas to know what happens next.
