New venue, new energy! AVCon 2024, now at the Adelaide Showgrounds, proved to be a roaring success and for the first time in years I felt a renewed sense of enthusiasm for an event I've been attending since 2009!
I had a great weekend and thank you to everyone who made it such and as always a massive thanks to everyone who participated in my video. Your patience was much appreciated. (And yes, I'm aware I'm using BabyMETAL when the con guest was BabyBEARD but this is the only way I'm getting that earworm out of my system LOL).
For the camera nerds: This was shot on a Sony ZV-E1 with a 16-35mm F4 lens as well as FE 24-240mm lens from the back row. Again going sans DJI Ronin gimbal and hopefully (slowly) getting better without it.
Also check out my mate's video from the Saturday.

Oz Comic-Con returns to the Adelaide Showgrounds for another year of geeky pop culture fun and madness to satiate any fandom! As always I was there with camera in hand to capture all the nerdy sights and wonderful cosplays!
Big thank you to everyone who made it such a fun weekend and especially massive thanks to everyone who participated in this video. Your time and patience as I fumbled with my camera was greatly appreciated.
Side note for the camera nerds: This was shot on a Sony ZV-E1 with FE 24-140mm lens. It was quite the experiment/learning experience, after 5 years of a Sony camcorder (AX53) and DJI Ronin gimbal, to go without both and test out the stabilisation features on the new hotness.
Also check out my mate Its a Me FigaRo's video from the same weekend.

The Adelaide Comic and Toy Fair is back for 2024!
Now in its TENTH year, I thought I'd do something a little bit different for this video and learn some background of the fair itself.
A massive thank you to Brett and Sarah for making time to contribute and, as always, for putting on a fantastic show year after year! See you again in October!

Although a few of us had been given the heads up that Paddy's Market in Pooraka, South Australia was going to close down, it wasn't until the last minute that I discovered today would indeed be the final day of trade. So with nothing else going on for my long weekend, I thought I'd pop into one of our favourite little places for one last bargain hunt to pay my respects. (there was some hint that they may go for another couple of weeks but that may be confusing things with how long they have to clear out their stalls).

Continuing my collection of Picard figures is the most recent 1/6 scale offering from EXO-6, Admiral Jean-Luc Picard as seen in season 3 of Star Trek: Picard.
This was pretty much a near-instant pre-order for me (fairly easy to do with a simple initial deposit). I have always been impressed by the quality and fidelity from EXO-6 and the attention to detail here is also magnificent, with an elder Picard head sculpt, a smaller and slimmer body (because he is significantly older than his First Contact iteration), and miniature tailoring that is almost unmatched.
It only comes with a couple of accessories (phaser and bottle of Chateau Picard) and alternate hands. The bottle of wine, even at such a small scale, has an embossed label it's that precise. The figure also comes with a surprise gift or the Admirals comm-badge as an enamel pin and it's gorgeous!

It's been a while since I've visited the Brighton Sunday Market (well, any market really.... damn bills and other costs). But I wanted to check out some of the new changes they've implemented going forward.
Yeah, so the indoor market section has a few teething issues (it was the first time), in any case it was nice to be back in the brisk morning air.
Video recorded 25th February 2024 on the Sony ZV-E1.

Just another chill unboxing for Admiral Picard figure by EXO-6. This arrived back in early January and I had to set it aside for weeks while I rested and worked on other things!

Every year this keeps going up later and later...
In the absence of any family or personal emergencies, I realised that I honestly just wanted to spend January doing sweet f*ck all. But now that I finally have this done and dusted I can move onto a few more pressing projects.
I'm still learning my fancy shmancy new camera (Sony ZV-E1) so this is going to be a tad rougher than usual. A few glitches have popped up but I ain't rendering for a third time (bloody power drop out). Please watch in 4K if you can.

Join me as I unbox this 1/6 scale Locutus of Borg by EXO-6 and watch me as I stare, gawk, and ramble about this gorgeous museum-grade figure!
ALSO WATCH: 1/6 scale Captain Picard (ST: First Contact)

After a forced hiatus, AVCon returns to celebrate its 21st year!
Although I had been making costumes before then, back in 2009, AVCon was my very first convention ever and so this event hold a special little place in my geekiness. Thank you to everyone who made the weekend enjoyable for this old fool and big thanks to all those who kindly took the time to participate in this video.

Bringing this one out again to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Peter Cullen! The legendary voice of Optimus Prime turns 82 today!
(of course this is still my favourite cosplay moment of all time 😁)
You can watch video from this photoshoot here!

This scene has played out *almost* every year (minus obvious exceptions) since 2009. In the same parking structure, the same section of the parking lot, the same few parking spots, three different cars, numerous cosplays.
Although I had been making costumes before then, AVCon 2009 was my very first convention and pretty much where it all began for me. Sometimes it's with a partner, often on my own. It happens in the morning, it happens in the middle of the day to change into my second cosplay like a diva but always this same ritual of suiting up behind my car, buckling myself in, and psyching myself up for the next few hours. It's the quiet before the storm, my meditation, my ritual.
It's been played out many times since that first time, at many events, in many carparks, and I am most certain I am not the only one. But I just wanted to capture this moment, this tradition, one more time just in case it's my last.

So much fun and absolutely hilarious, I can't believe Mattel let them get away with any of that! 😅
