One of my favorite things is this interview with Peter Cullen and Frank Welker discussing how they were reading the Transformers Movie script and Peter's like "I died! Go to page 67, I'm dead!" And Frank's like "Do you come back???"
Cue the two of them frantically looking through the rest of the script and being very sad when he, in fact, did not come back.

it’s so interesting to me that the original g1 optimus prime voice hasn’t been seen since the last g1 american episode really. like yes peter cullen has come back many a time, but it’s never been that kind, gentle, fatherly voice like he originally was. all of cullens optimus voices since 1988 ish has been the live action movie grand general/kingly voice
not to say i hate that voice, it is an amazing voice and fits well with the versions of the character it’s lended to, but i miss happy prime give him back

Y'know, with all the famous Transformers that have facial hair (Wreck-Gar, Alpha Trion, Scourge to name a few), I'm genuinely surprised there hasn't been a Transformers show that's given Optimus Prime a moustache like Peter Cullen.

It kinda suits him, NGL.

Transformers
Ok, don't ask me why, but...
Optimus dances like they did in the 50s. Classy and simple. He doesn't dance unless he knows (or thinks) no one is watching. I would like to believe, though, that he wouldn't mind dancing in front of Elita.
Imagine, in Transformers Prime...
*Miko blasts music at full volume; Bumblebee is the first to jump in and rock some epic dance moves*
*Optimus observes from a distance, then excuses himself*
*Ratchet rolls his eyes and gets back to work*
*Ultra Magnus watches in confusion*
*Arcee, Bulkhead, Jack, Raf, and Smokescreen (a terrible dancer, but he does his best) join Miko and Bumblebee*
Later, the group goes out to scout; Ratchet and Optimus hang back. Ratchet is weary from working and tells Optimus that he needs to take a quick break. He leaves the base. Optimus considers the speakers a minute. He surveys the base and double checks the cameras. Finally, he gets the speakers to work, but it switches to a different album Miko rarely plays, as she prefers rock over older music. 50s music comes on. Optimus nods his head and taps his feet. Again, he surveys the base. Then, he starts dancing the way they did in the 50s. Well, the way humans do. He's good at it. He smiles a little bit.
Meanwhile, the others get back to the base. Jack hears the music playing and throws his hand out to stop Miko before she can sprint into the room. Arcee cocks her head and wordlessly tells the others to be quiet. Ratchet peers around the corner and stares in shock. Eventually, they all stare in shock. They whisper to each other.
Smokescreen: Our leader is more impressive than we thought.
Miko: I am never deleting that album.
Not wanting to embarrass Optimus, they hang back and wait until the music stops, then casually enter. Optimus awkwardly stands to the side. The others get back to work, and Optimus gradually relaxes and asks them whether they saw anything out of the ordinary. They shake their head and converse for a bit. Miko turns the speakers on, and 50s music comes back on.
Miko: Huh. I forgot I had this album.
Optimus: It is good to extend your knowledge on a variety of... musical tastes.
Miko: You know, Optimus, if you ever did dance, I think this would fit you well.
Optimus: Hm.
Still, he smiles. The others have to hide their smiles.
Not only that, but Peter Cullen probably grew up with this kind of music.

Say what you want about ROTB, but the parallels between Optimus and Noah are SICKENING
Both started the movie for their own personal reasons like saving their own planet or gaining material wealth from their efforts and ended doing it for each others reasons
They have a younger companion that they would do anything for, like a father or older brother would
And I know there’s more and I just can’t think of it
Literally you don’t really see it until Elena points it out
And in every version of Transformers, Optimus always loses something/someone so important to him
*insert “Do I look like him?” by Tyler The Creator*

Nov. 15 (UPI) -- The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced Wednesday that voice actor Peter Cullen will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award. Cullen will receive his award at the Children & Family Emmy Awards on Dec. 17.
Cullen has been a voice actor since the '70s. He is most famously the voice of Optimus Prime in the animated and live-action Transformers, Eeyore in Winnie the Pooh and Zandar in G.I. Joe.
Cullen has also done various voices for Scooby-Doo, assorted Mogwai in Gremlins, Duck Tales, The Real Ghostbusters, Sesame Street and more.
In a statement, Cullen joked, "Are you sure they have the right Cullen? I spell it C-u-l-l-E-n. Seriously though, I am humbled to be recognized by the Academy with this great honor."
Jojo Siwa and Jack McBrayer hosted the first Children & Family Emmy Awards last year. NATAS has not announced this year's hosts yet.

I can't believe that I've never posted the piece that I did for the To Be Gentle Zine.
I made it as pretty as I could since it was for Peter Cullen himself and I wanted to show my love for Optimus, but I am inordinately proud of this one.❤️

Since I just got done with Megacon 2025, figured I’d share a funny story from the 2024 convention. Both Peter Cullen and Frank Welker (voices of Optimus Prime and Megatron respectively) were there, and I really wanted to get them to sign a transformers poster of mine. When we got there, Peter’s line was already incredibly long, but I got in line anyway. I ended up waiting five hours in that line, but that’s a different story!
We get the news Peter Cullen was about to come out, and then I see him and am gobsmacked. When you imagine the voice of Optimus Prime, you imagine someone with stature and an imposing frame. What we saw, though, was a very kind and nervous 5’8” Peter Cullen. When I eventually got to him, he was very kind and soft spoken, but it through me for such a loop how different my preconceived notions on the voice of Optimus looked. The guy’s disposition also really made me understand why he hated doing the Michael Bay Optimus so much, being such a sweet and kind person reading the script of a war criminal for nearly a decade has to be grating (especially for a character normally defined by his kindness and respect for life).
