Sharpening
Not really happy with this but it's still very cute so I wanted to share it with the world. I felt I was going too many directions with it. I'm sure someone will enjoy it though, so that's why I'm posting it. Let me know what I should have done differently, or if you enjoyed it as is. Thanks!!

Words ~ 1,929 ~
Weapons. It's what they were and what they referred to themselves as on a daily basis. To deny this truth is to deny their origin and all the impacts it has on their lives. Yet, there is always something in the back of their minds wishing that they might be something more one day. That perhaps they can have other labels to describe themselves other than tools of war.
Shadow and Omega are aware of the other’s powers and skills. They fight consistently against one another, not because they want to, but because they tell themselves they have to. They are weapons and so they sharpen each other out of necessity. It is the only way they can show the other that they care, or so they believe.
Sparring sessions are frequent and they fight through it all. Between missions, during world ending apocalypses, and within peaceful time periods. To be unprepared is to be dull, and a dull weapon is cast out or sharpened by force. Failure is not an option because the result of failure is death.
This is compassion. They attempt to be the biggest obstacle in the way of the other, so the true hardships are nothing but mere annoyances. For there is no pain greater for a weapon than watching another weapon, a friend, die in battle because you did not properly sharpen them for the tribulations that lay in their path. Neither teammate considers the chance that rigorous sparring such as this could lead to hostility and friction.
But there is always more than one way to sharpen a blade or service a gun. If a weapon no longer responds to the care it is given, a new way must be created. Omega’s time spent away from his creator has given him many opportunities to see the possibilities the world could offer him. He finds himself developing his own feelings and wants outside of his directive despite how dangerous it is for a weapon to acquire these traits.
Omega watches Shadow and discovers the ultimate lifeform masks his own wants and desires through the term destiny. He chooses his own path to follow and does not let anyone else decide that for him. Omega wishes to do the same, but many of the desires he harbors he would not have chosen for himself.
Nature is beautiful to him. He attempts to culminate it and assist where he can. Often entertaining the thought of growing his own garden, he keeps a small bag of seeds within his stomach compartment hoping to find a place secure enough to plant them. But he is aware of his enemies, and refuses to put the things he cares about in harm's way.
As the fights with Shadow continue, Omega finds himself tiring of engaging him. It takes him a while to determine why, but he comes to the conclusion that Shadow is becoming his biggest adversary. None of these fights are light-hearted. They are demanding and rigorous as the sharpening of a weapon should be. Omega finds himself missing the challenge of fighting robots. As he hones his skills against Shadow, everything he used to find difficult has become easy.
There is also the possibility that his emotions towards Shadow have changed overtime as he grew just as his personality and desire for individualism had. Omega, the ultimate E-Series robot, finally admits to himself and the universe that he has a desire for companionship.
He confides first in Rouge explaining to her his dilemma and how it is affecting his life. She is supportive and understanding. “Explain to Shadow with certainty. As long as you believe your own words, he will understand. He might not be receptive, but don't let his reaction determine your destiny. As for me, I'll always be here for you big guy.” Her words are accompanied by a head scratch. Something he had been curious about for ages, but never asked for. It was over all too soon.
He decides to stop seeking out Shadow specifically to fight and let the ultimate lifeform come to him for that. If he does approach Shadow first, it is always for something else. Shadow takes notice of this trend rather immediately and confronts the E-Series about it.
“It’s been a week.” The hedgehog leers as he stands in front of his teammate. “That’s too long.” He growls underneath his breath and readies himself to attack.
“NO.” Omega responds simply, staring at Shadow. “I DO NOT WANT TO.”
For a moment, Shadow looks appalled. “What?!” Like he had just broken the most bewildering news to him. “No!” He growls and ignites his fists with chaos energy. “You will fight me now or I will beat you into the ground!”
“VERY WELL.” Omega had expected this outcome. He stands unmoving as Shadow charges him, his fist reeling back for the beginnings of a punch. He watches as Shadow’s facial expressions morph from anger into regret as he realizes the robot is true to his words. At the last second he veers off course and strikes a nearby tree instead, felling it to the ground.
“What the hell Omega?! Fight back! What’s gotten into you?!”
Omega does not take his eyes off Shadow. Instead of attacking, he reaches a hand out in his direction. “WHY DO YOU WANT TO FIGHT?”
Shadow grits his teeth in frustration. “This isn’t about what I want. It’s what we have to do!”
“IS IT? ARE WE JUST WEAPONS TO EACH OTHER AS WELL?”
“No! We agreed we wouldn’t use each other.”
“I FEEL USED.” Omega looks down at the ground, aware it was now or never to explain to Shadow his feelings.
Shadow’s eyebrows raise in surprise. “How?! I thought we understood each other! I thought nothing had to be said!”
“YOU WERE RIGHT. UP UNTIL A FEW WEEKS AGO, I WOULD HAVE AGREED WITH YOU. WE FIGHT SO OFTEN THAT NOTHING IS A CHALLENGE ANYMORE. WE ARE FAR STRONGER THAN WE WERE.” Omega takes a few calculated and cautious steps towards Shadow then sits on the ground in front of him. “IF OUR CHALLENGES ARE ELIMINATED, THEN ALL THAT STANDS BETWEEN OURSELVES AND TRUE VICTORY WOULD BE US.”
Shadow softens his expression and releases a bit of the anger he harbors. “We would become actual enemies. In all senses of the word.” He adds and joins Omega on the ground.
“WHAT I BEGAN TO FEEL WAS ANIMOSITY, NOT RIVALRY.”
“I see. I…feel it too. I'm surprised you can determine the difference.” Shadow looks up at him.
“I DID NOT USED TO. I LABELED EVERY EMOTION I FELT AS ANGER.”
“Hm. I remember.” A small huff escapes from his mouth, simulating a quiet chuckle.
“YOU WERE NOT MUCH BETTER.”
“Thanks.” Light sarcasm. A sign that the two teammates had caught their spiraling camaraderie in time. A gentle breeze passes between them. “What happens now?” Shadow breaks the brief silence, drawing shapes in the dirt between them. “What can we do to…fix this?”
“I BEGAN APPROACHING YOU FOR OTHER TASKS.”
“I noticed. One of the reasons I got angry.”
“SHOULD I STOP?”
“No.” Shadow responds quietly. “It was a reaction from my own animosity.” Shadow rises from the ground on all fours and crawls next to Omega, resting against the outside of his thigh.
The E-series hand hovers over the hedgehog’s head after he situates himself. “MAY I?”
Shadow glances up and gives a faint smile. “Sure.”
The ultimate lifeform dips his head a bit as claws make contact with his quills, rubbing into his scalp lightly. He makes a contented noise then leans his head and elbows on the robot’s knee, eyes fluttering close in relaxation.
“I do not want you as my enemy.” Omega states quietly.
“Hm. Yeah. I wouldn't want me as an enemy either.” Shadow hums, lost in the blissful feeling of head scratches.
Omega's oculars brighten in slight irritation, raising his volume back to normal. “YOU COULD ATTEMPT TO LEVEL WITH ME.”
“Emotional vulnerability? Ew.”
“I DID IT FIRST. IT'S YOUR TURN.”
“Nah. I’m good.” A finger claw from the hand on top of his head reaches down and pokes into his side with little to no force. “Hey!” Shadow’s eyes widen as he jerks the opposite way into the E-series robot’s thigh. He pushes the claw off to the side and holds it at arm’s length for a second. Omega quickly relents and returns to resting his hand on Shadow’s head with all four fingers.
Shadow huffs indignantly. “Fine, I…didn't want to acknowledge the growing rift between us. I thought it was normal for weapons to fight so much. And to some extent I think it still is. Did I want it? No. You’re right about that. I just…didnt know how else to…communicate. We’ve always hated talking about stuff like this. What changed for you?” Shadow asks, eyeing Omega warily.
“THE FEAR OF LOSING YOUR COMPANIONSHIP. ROUGE WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN HELPING ME SOLVE THIS PROBLEM.”
Shadow reaches up to grab Omega’s hand from his head and holds it across his lap between the palms of his hand. “Rouge has been solving all of our problems these days hasn’t she? She’s always been good at handling the issues we couldn’t. I’d rather fight the problems with my fists.”
“IT IS EASIER THAT WAY, ISN’T IT?”
“Much easier. Heheh.” Shadow laughs, but his expression falters. “But this isn't one we can solve with our fists.”
“NO. I SUGGEST WE PARTAKE IN ACTIVITIES THAT REQUIRE THE USE OF QUALITY TIME.”
“Guess that means we’ll be stuck with each other. How will we keep ourselves from using our fists?”
“I DIDNT SAY WE HAD TO STOP USING OUR FISTS COMPLETELY.” Omega meets his eyes.
Shadow grins right back at him. “You’re right. You didn't. We could…fight for fun instead?”
“I LIKE THAT IDEA.”
“Not all the time, though right?” Shadow sighs.
Omega’s claws closes gently around Shadow’s hands. “NO. NOT ALL THE TIME.”
“You mentioned other activities. Did you have any in mind?”
Omega opens his stomach compartment, reaches in with his other hand not holding Shadow, and takes out his bag of seeds. Eyes shifting between each of the seeds with wonder, Shadow smirks. “Gardening?”
“IF IT INTERESTS YOU.”
“I’m more interested in imagining you trying to garden. How would you even hold a spade?”
Omega releases Shadow’s hands as he holds his claws in such a way so the handle of a spade could theoretically fit between the tips of his fingers. He turns to Shadow and shows him.
The ultimate lifeform clicks his tongue in disbelief. “I don't buy it.”
“THERE ARE DIFFERENT SIZES OF SHOVELS. THERE WILL BE A SIZE THAT I CAN HOLD COMFORTABLY.”
“What's the challenge in that though?” Shadow rises to his feet, trying and failing to hide his smile.
Omega thinks for a moment then pushes himself off the ground to stand with him. “YOU ARE RIGHT. THERE IS NO CHALLENGE. THEREFORE I CHALLENGE YOU TO A TEST OF PATIENCE WHILE I DIG WITH THE TINIEST SHOVEL I CAN FIND.”
Shadow keels over in laughter at the image that pops into his mind. “Fine. Challenge accepted. I’m sure Rouge would be interested in this as well.”
“YES.” Omega agrees, putting the seeds back safely in his stomach compartment. “SHE WILL BE HAPPY TO OBSERVE US SHARPENING OTHER SKILLS, BESIDES COMBAT.”
“I’ll let her know. Where do you plan on finding the world’s smallest shovel?”
“YOU WILL JUST HAVE TO WAIT AND SEE.”
“Testing my patience already? Hmph. Fine. I can wait.”
“SEE THAT YOU DO.”

not to make everything about them, but,
I know a lot of my posts riff on the idea that there's more going on with Omega than just destroying Eggman robots, but still- if Omega invites you to go destroy Eggman robots with him, that is his highest form of compliment and not one you should take lightly.
It's like Sonic slowing down for you when he runs, or Tails infodumping about his new experimental project, or Amy giving you a hug, or Knuckles letting his guard down around you by the Master Emerald, or Shadow giving you an earnest smile, or Rouge showing you her gem collection. That shit means something.

Team Dark Head Pat Headcannons
Team Dark has many different ways of communicating, but body language and nonverbal gestures are the most prevalent.
The most intimate and profound gesture all three share with each other during particularly emotional moments, besides Shadow and Rouge's rare embraces, are head pats.
There are different types depending on who is administering it, receiving it, and what the situation is.
Rouge gives out most of the head pats for team dark. She only does it when she and her boys are alone or with people they fully trust. She will never head pat Shadow in Sonic's company or Omega in Eggman's. She might head pat Omega in Sonic's company, but there is a very select few she would dare head pat Shadow in front of. Eggman is not one of them, but Cream and Vanilla are.
Rouge has three different head pats for Shadow. The first one is gently resting her hand on top of his head for if she wants to get his attention at the start of an emotional moment between the two. It usually stays there and doesn't move until Shadow does. If he doesn't want to talk, he will turn away and she will remove her hand, but if he does he'll face her. She will smile at him and nestle her fingers into his quills.
The second one is for his restlessness and agitation. Whether it is because of lack of sleep or his regular frustration, she will put her hand out in front of him as an invitation to accept her help. He'll ignore the hand if he doesn't want it, as he knows she will leave it up for just a few seconds before lowering it back down then pretends nothing happened. If he engages with her hand in some way, she will brush along his quills from his forehead to his neck. He will relax into her touch and his negative emotions will fade into exhaustion.
The third head pat is combat related, administered during a time when exchanging words would take too long. It is when Rouge is passing by directly overhead of Shadow for some reason or another. She pokes at his head with different amounts of fingers depending on the message she wants to pass along. One finger: "I'm splitting off to infiltrate." Two fingers: "Enemy called in for reinforcements." Three fingers: "Omega's incapacitated again." Whole hand. "We should think about retreat." She also signals with just her hand if she can't reach his head.
Rouge pats Omega's dome at least once whenever she is resting on his shoulder. If she is referring to him in conversation, she'll pat twice so he can know he's being talked about. The robot likes to zone out to conversation not related to him, his teammates, or killing Eggman.
She will play his head like a drum to get his attention if he is purposefully ignoring an important situation or her. If he did an exceptional job at destroying something, Rouge will rub his head for a moment and praise his work. He short circuits every time and she finds it cute.
Sometimes Omega will get so angry that his other emotions that he hides inside of his rage begin to spill out. Rouge will hover in front of him with a worried frown on her face. If he doesn't try to swat her away or go elsewhere she will hold the sides of his face and rub her thumbs along the edges of his head. She knows he doesn't like any other emotion besides rage, so this is her way of helping him regulate through them if he so chooses.
Omega did not start head patting Rouge and Shadow until he grew to begrudgingly accept his friendship with his favorite meatbags. At first it was mimicry until he started learning from Rouge what she liked, what meant the most to her, and what times were appropriate. He can't keep denying his want for friendship when he's running his claws through Rouge's white fur.
Rouge isn't afraid to ask for affection. Head rubs and scratches is what she wants the most. The thief has a lot of tension from migraines around her temples and base of the neck, usually caused by Sonic, Knuckles, and any other idiots she had been around, sometimes including her own teammates. "Hey Omega. Be a dear and work out these knots that you caused today, please?"
He wishes to destroy his teammates' enemies as a way to show affection for them. He rests his claws on top of Rouge and Shadow's heads as tactical advantage over any enemies who might threaten them. Rouge loves it, when he's not touching her ears. They are pretty sensitive and off limits, unless she is unfairly giving him a hard time, then he will poke at them.
Omega did not offer head pats to Shadow at first. Shadow and Omega are very much alike in many ways, so he wasn't sure if Shadow wanted head pats from him until one day the hedgehog stood close enough to his claws that he was basically touching him. Omega rested his hand on his head and the hedgehog did nothing to deter him.
Omega has a hard time telling his teammates how much he appreciates them, so head pats are one way to display that affection. Shadow won't sit up on his shoulders very often, but Omega always feels something akin to happiness when he does. If they are in a safe environment, Omega will sometimes do a quick couple pats while he's up there. Shadow responds with his signature "hmph", but he'll be smiling all the same.
Rouge is usually the one to comfort Shadow during panic attacks or emotionally charged situations, but sometimes she isn't around. Shadow doesn't always feel comfortable relying on Omega for emotional support, but the times he does Omega never takes for granted. Omega will offer his hand and Shadow can choose to take a seat under it or chaos snap on top of it. Either way, Omega will rest his hand along Shadow's back and rub a thumb from his forehead across his head. If he's on his hand he will cup it so if Shadow curls up into a ball he won't fall off as easily.
The rarest head pats of Team Dark are those administered by Shadow, specifically the ones he gives to Omega. They are so few and far between that Omega forgets about them until Shadow gives him one. If in the heat of combat Shadow needs a higher terrain for something, he will spin dash over Omega and put his hand on top of the robot's head as an anchoring or leveraging point then continue on his way. It happens so quick that it throws Omega for a loop each time and he never gets to process the moment until it passes.
Omega gets angry about Eggman all the time, but there is a difference between hating Eggman and hating the abandonment issues he has which he tries to play off as just hating Eggman, but Shadow sees right through him. The hedgehog stands on top of his head and reminds him of who he is and that he's not alone nor is he currently abandoned.
The third head pat Shadow gives Omega has only happened twice and it was while they were sparring. When knocking Omega over Shadow will usually continue attacking, but twice he grabbed the pointed hood shielding above his eyes and noogied him instead. It renders Omega so confused and embarrassed that Shadow wins the spar right then and there. "WHAT?!" "No one will ever believe you." "NO!"
Shadow is much more affectionate with Rouge than Omega. Continuously saving her from threats that maybe she could have dodged herself, but Rouge doesn't mind one bit. It feels nice to know she is being cared for. After a stressful save or fight, if Shadow sees she is winded or even the slightest bit weary, he will brush her hair from the top and cup the side of her head. "Are you alright?" "All thanks to you, my hero."
Rouge gets frustrated whenever she loses a jewel, money, or something else worth value to her. She will stomp around fuming for hours. Shadow really doesn't like it when she is angry. To console her, he will stand next to her until she throws herself in his arms dramatically. She buries her face in his chest fluff and he will rest his chin on her head and promise her revenge or a heist twice the amount she lost.
Rouge is the most emotionally stable member of team dark, but even she has her moments of anxiety and depression. She doesn't break often and she will usually do it away from everyone, but Shadow can tell when her breaking point is close. He'll sit beside her if he can find her and hold out an arm to her. Like him, she won't always take his help, but when she does, he will hold her and run his fingers through her hair while she works through her own emotions.
Just...just more Team Dark being soft with each other. I NEED IT! Aaaaaagh.

Misproportioned Priorities
Fandom: Sonic
Ship: Omegadow/Shadomega
Words ~ 2,094 ~
Chaos Island is not what he expects when he first lands here. To be truthful, Shadow was not sure what to expect. The last island he visited had him searching for his friend Rouge after she and Omega went missing while they were on a hunt for Eggman’s vault base. Luckily he found her. Although not on the same plane of existence, he is relieved to know she is safe.
His new mission is to search for any traces of Omega on this fiery volcano island. He is not sure if he is here, but Rouge had traced a faint signal to this location that mimicked one of the badnik’s IP signatures. He takes a look around before igniting his air shoes and gliding across the island.
He looks left and right, every once and awhile calling the robot by name. He races to the highest point of the island, the mouth of the volcano’s caldera. Unbothered by the heat he peers at the ground below, hoping to make out something resembling a glitching hulk of metal attempting to tear apart a titan and hilariously failing.
Unfortunately, no such shape exists in his field of view. Instead a glitching mass to his left appears out of thin air capturing his attention. It is red and black with hints of yellow, all swirling around itself with no real rhyme or reason.
Shadow has a good idea of who it is. “Omega?” He asks quietly, turning his body towards the amalgamation of oblong shapes.
The glitching mass approaches slowly. Instead of acknowledging Shadow’s question it drops a few pieces of scrap metal below its floating form. It vanishes suddenly and returns not a second later, dropping more pieces of scrap metal into the same pile.
Shadow watches in confusion as this being composed of ones and zeros continues this action until it has a pile about the size of the master emerald in its full form. The glitch surrounds all the scrap metal it has collected and begins to mold something from it, inserting its glitches where available.
Everything condenses into itself and a miniature Omega drops from the glitching mass, landing on the ground. Shadow bites his lip to keep from laughing at the size. Omega saunters over to him, head barely reaching Shadow’s hips. He looks up at Shadow with those red eyes that the hedgehog is so used to peering down at him.
“Do not laugh.” A snicker escapes from Shadow’s lips, but he is able to school the rest of his features. Thankfully the sound is not much different from Omega’s regular voice, albeit a little bit higher, but the whole situation is still very comical to the hedgehog.
“No promises.” Shadow smirks down at his companion, before looking around. “What happened to your original body?”
“It was destroyed during my crash landing, but my code was freed. The lines between reality and cyberspace are blurred on these islands. I can manipulate matter and space just by intertwining my code with the environment. I was looking for more scrap metal when you arrived.”
“Hmph.” Shadow responds, attempting not to sound impressed.
“Have you found Rouge?” Omega’s voice is quieter now, as if he fears Shadow’s answer.
“Yes, she is…uninjured.” He says with some uncertainty. “She is trapped in cyberspace, but I was able to communicate and confirm that she is alright.”
Omega’s body language relaxes and his voice returns to normal. “That is…adequate. Have you found a way to release her?”
“Her physical body is holographic and unable to interact with her surroundings. I’m not sure how, but from what we’ve gathered she might have been turned into code. She could not move from the island she was trapped on.”
Omega doesn't respond for a moment, seeming to think. “Shadow. If Rouge is trapped by cyberspace, how are you also not rendered incapacitated?”
“I can escape it by using my chaos energy.” Shadow smirks again, turning back to look at Omega’s current size. “What about you? Will you have to leave…this behind if you leave the island.”
Omega waves a hand aggressively, irritated by his chastisement. “On the contrary, I have found I need a physical body to remove myself from cyberspace.” Omega explains. “As you can no doubt tell, I'm in need of more scrap metal.”
“That was a lot you collected earlier.” Shadow crosses his arms. “You could have created a bigger frame for yourself.”
“Ammunition takes precedence.” Omega points to the areas he normally holds his bullet stockpiles.
“Pff.” Shadow lets out a small laugh. “Of course it does.”
“This unit will never be unarmed!” Omega raises his fists to the sky. Had he been his regular size, his actions might have been more menacing, but now it is very cute. Shadow decides to keep this opinion to himself, for now.
“Fine. We'll find you more scrap metal on this island and then we cross the water back to where Rouge is. Since you can move around the threshold of cyberspace more freely than I can, I believe you are our best chance at saving Rouge.”
“She will be rescued, because I am the ultimate robot.” Shadow’s diaphragm spasms as he continues to quell his laughter. He turns away and rubs the smile off his face with his gloved hand.
“Let's get going then.” Shadow ignites his shoes and speeds off, looking for any sort of glint in the sunlight that might indicate a pile of scrap metal. The sooner he gets Omega to his regular size, the sooner he can stop these terrible involuntary laughter fits from betraying his normal, brooding nature. A smile or smirk here and there is fine. Omega by default is difficult enough not to laugh at. He doesn't need this added difficulty meter.
He stops by a couple of scrap pieces on the ground and looks behind him. A kilometer away is Omega who instead of using his jet engines to fly is running wildly to catch up to him. Shadow doubles over, a shaky breath leaves his lungs. He is barely able to keep his composure as the badnik reaches the ultimate life form.
“Omega…If…if you…do not.” He pauses in between his words and clutches his stomach, laughter threatening to bubble out. He hides a bit of it as a cough to relieve himself. “If you do not forsake some of your stockpiled ammunition scrap and build yourself jet engines, I will carry you.”
“YOU WILL NOT.” Omega shouts, utterly appalled at the notion. The badnik can tolerate someone carrying him around as just a head, but if he has his body he sees it as demeaning.
“I absolutely will. You know Rouge would do the same. If this is how you are going to travel, I’m not waiting for you.” Shadow crosses his arms and frowns, feeling the laughter subside a little.
Omega says nothing more and takes the scrap into his claws. A bit of the same code as before surrounds the pieces of scrap metal and they disappear into the robot. Shadow notes that Omega remains the same height.
“And where did those go?” Shadow asks teasingly.
Omega ignites his newly acquired jet engines turning to the side so the hedgehog can see them. He meets Shadow’s gaze with a side eye, not bothering to fully turn his head. “YOUR MOM.”
He wheezes. The corners of Shadow’s mouth begin to twitch upwards once more. His overall resolve is weakening. “Bold words for someone the size of a kickball.”
Omega quickly moves away as if anticipating an incoming kick, but Shadow doesn't move. It's when Omega turns away that Shadow quickly strikes, knocking the badnik out of the air and a couple meters away. A sound of clanging metal echoes across the rocky plains as he bounces a couple times, akin to an actual kickball. Shadow holds his stomach as it begins to ache.
Omega points accusingly at him from across the distance. “YOU WILL REGRET THAT SHADOW THE HEDGEHOG!” Shadow is sure he will, but for the moment it is worth it.
Suddenly, five robots appear around them from similar code clouds as Omega. Shadow instantly prepares himself for a fight, and the badnik revs his miniguns. Shadow is able to defeat one robot before looking over to see how Omega is fairing. His volley fire is barely denting the chest plates of the robots in front of him. “Face me inferior models!”
Shadow loses it. He collapses to the ground, palms barely holding his weight as laughter Cascades from his mouth. This renders Shadow prone however the other robots are too perplexed at the size of the robot that is picking a fight with them to care. They stand around for a second, assessing the situation before attempting to ambush Omega.
The badnik swivels his head to glare at the ultimate life form. “STOP LAUGHING. WE ARE IN BATTLE.”
Shadow tries and fails to get off the ground. His eyes shut and he covers his mouth, silently cursing himself and Omega for such a humiliating display of emotion. He watches as Omega fires tiny missiles into the faces of the robots. They are knocked back in surprise, but seem to take no damage.
Shadow snorts through his laughter at their comical size and he beats the ground with his fist, still unable to quell his fits of laughter. Omega turns his attention to Shadow yet again and his eyes flare with rage. “CEASE YOUR USELESS MEATBAG REACTION. THERE IS NOTHING HUMOROUS ABOUT MY MIGHTY MINI MISSILES!” He shoots even more of them to preoccupy the robots so Shadow can regain control of himself.
The name gets Shadow the most. Tears of mirth start forming along the corners of his eyes. “OMEGA!” His voice cracks as he yells his name.
“sHaDOw.” Omega snarks in response, dramatically changing his voice register through the word to mock him. “GET YOUR BUTT OFF THE GROUND AND FIGHT.” He seethes when all it does is cause the hedgehog to guffaw even harder and start coughing. His throat is becoming dry from the excessive laughter.
Omega roars with anger. He races to the scrap pieces left behind by the robot Shadow destroyed and absorbs them through his code. It takes a couple seconds, but he grows to his full size once again and easily blows the four very confused robots away with a short wall of volley fire. The badnik then stomps over to those scrap pieces and takes them, regaining the rest of his weapon systems plus a little extra ammunition.
He stomps back over to Shadow and glares down at him intensely. Luckily the ultimate life form’s coughing has died down into meer fits of comically high-pitched giggles. Despite how enraged he is that Shadow was unable to fight, he can't help but feel a bit of satisfaction at breaking Shadow’s resolve, a feat claiming to be impossible by some.
Omega takes the opportunity to snap a few pictures and take a quick video. “ARE YOU FINISHED?” He asks impatiently.
Shadow holds up a finger, but is able to stand to his feet. He wipes his face and nose then fixes his quills. He takes a couple deep breaths and folds his arms, attempting to glare at Omega as if he hadn't been spending the last five minutes laughing his sanity away.
“You did all that on purpose.” Shadow growls, unable to hide that little bit of laughter still roaming around in his lungs.
“YOU WOULD NOT HAVE MADE IT THIS FAR IF I WAS TRYING. YOU WERE THE ONE MOCKING MY PRIORITIES.”
Shadow starts to laugh again, but the stomach ache allows him to quell it. “Your ‘priorities’ did nothing to those robots.”
“MY MIGHTY MINI MISSILES DID!” He stands proudly, watching as Shadow’s body spasms with exhaustion. “NOW I’M DOING IT ON PURPOSE.”
“S-stop it!” Shadow whines through the pain, bangs languidly on the badnik’s arm, then slumps over. Omega manages to catch him before he can hit the ground again. His breath is very shaky and Omega picks him up, allowing the ultimate life form to rest in his grasp instead of on the ground.
“Very well.” Omega lowers his voice watching fondly as Shadow’s eyes begin to close from exhaustion. “Which direction is Rouge’s island?” Omega asks and Shadow points to the direction he came from. He curls up inside Omega’s hand and the robot gives him a gentle pet along his quills before he fires his jets and takes off in the direction he was pointed in.
(Omega takes Shadow to Rouge and they can't handle how cute he is while he sleeps. Also Omega shows her the pictures and video and she cant stop laughing with him. She does get out of cyberspace because Omega is the ultimate robot.)

Shadomega Headcannons
My brain has ideas and I must share them.
These two are very much alike in many ways. They butt heads with each other more than they do with Rouge, but never seem to take anything personally.
From an outsider's perspective, their interactions seem very few, but they are always communicating through nonverbal means.
Omega has a catalogue of the different flicks of Shadow's ears and what they mean. His body language also clearly displays what emotions he is feeling and Omega knows what subtle changes to look for.
Likewise Shadow has come to listen for Omega's systems' noises. He has different speeds that his fans run at when he's cycling through different systems, running diagnostics, or thinking really hard about something.
Shadow can usually determine what Omega is doing without even needing to look at him and Omega can usually tell what Shadow needs to hear or do to alleviate whatever black cloud hangs over him.
Shadow often forgets Omega's ability to understand him. For awhile it was difficult to be around the robot when they first met each other because it was just like looking into a mirror.
Two creations forged into weapons. One embraces it and uses it to smite their creator. The other keeps a promise to the person he lost to protect the world she held dear.
Despite the similarities between them, their goals are different but they embrace them with a passion that only the other could understand.
They possess a power that eliminates many others from walking the path that they do. They will happily kill for the other if one seems to be struggling with an enemy.
There is an agreed upon point of no return when it comes to helping each other out. They are both very capable and regard the other with high respect, but if one comes under heavy and I mean HEAVY damage and fire, the other will help no questions asked.
The actual relationship comes when they hunger for more of those nonverbal interactions with each other. They appreciate the understanding and respect the other exhibits and wish for more of it.
So they start spending more time together. Despite their lack of need for verbal communication they find themselves partaking in it more.
They share stories of their triumphs and begin to confide in the other about their worst fears and pains.
Shadow fears losing his new family as he did Maria. Omega fears being abandoned for not living up to expectations he superimposes onto himself.
Although these fears are different they lead to the same conclusion: Rouge and the other leaving.
They both knew that Rouge had their backs, but before they started drawing close to each other they thought the other would leave at the first mistake. How utterly wrong that thinking was.
Omega makes many attempts to prove his strength as the ultimate robot, but he noticed that whenever his body was almost destroyed, Shadow would flinch at any notion related to this. Omega decided to have some self-preservation, for Shadow's sake rather than his own.
Shadow notices Omega's own self-destructive tendencies after any sort of failure. He pulls himself away from Shadow and Rouge, attempting to make whatever emotional pain might follow less. To combat this, Shadow inserts himself more into Omega's vicinity, subtly reminding him the hedgehog is here for him, regardless of the mission status.
Rouge is so so so proud of her boys for finally talking to each other and recognizing the other's trials and tribulations. She is so supportive of their growth from enemies into...friends? She's honestly not sure but is curious to see how it plays out.
When their friendship has a strong foundation, that is when the feelings start.
Both Shadow and Omega are extremely touch starved in their own way. Rouge provides some, but they are looking for something deeper and longer, and Rouge tends to be very quick and precise about what affection she gives out.
So, when Shadow and Omega talked about this for the first time to find out they both wanted the same thing? The butterflies for both were intense. It was so much that they couldn't even share a hug after the conversation. They'd admit the blushing to each other later.
The first hug they do share after a few days turns into a cuddle. They are very much alone lest someone they would rather not see this comes along and teases them for it. Omega is almost always a big spoon for obvious reasons, it's also because his claws have the most tactical sensors. He can feel elsewhere on his body when it's touched, but it's muted.
Shadow hasn't really been comforted like this since Maria was alive. He stuns himself with just how much he wants more.
It becomes a regular thing between them. It takes them a moment to be okay with Rouge being in the vicinity during their cuddles but she never says anything or draws attention to it so they feel safe.
Their competitions such as who can kill more robots become more silly and they joke with each other more than they have before. Shadow actually starts smiling more.
It takes a lot to make Shadow laugh, but Omega enjoys the sound so he challenges himself to be as comical as possible during not so serious missions and other times when they are within company they trust.
He keeps a count of how often he can make Shadow bust a gut with his one-liners and slapstick. It gives Shadow a reason to attempt to keep his composure.
Omega will have more luck if Rouge is with them because she will absolutely be dying of laughter and Rouge's laughter is infectious.
"FIFTH BOUT OF LAUGHTER THIS WEEK. YOU MUST THINK I AM HILARIOUS."
"Sh-shut up."
Sparring is fun because it's now a tussle for power. They don't know how to flirt so they fight instead.
Nothing really changes from their earlier sparring sessions except the volume of teasing goes way up.
Shadow finds Omega's version of blushing adorable. It's basically a combination of steam/smoke, overheating, and loud spinning exhaust fans. Shadow can hide his blush, but Omega? When it happens, everyone knows.
Big war machine think hedgehog cute go brrrrrrrr.
It happens most when they are sparring and Shadow pulls a sneaky move such as kicking the back of his knee so the robot falls backwards and then stands on top of him. Shadow absolutely pins him there so Omega can't run away and hide his reaction.
*fan spinning accelerates*
"There it is."
"MUST YOU HUMILIATE ME?!"
"Is it humiliation if you enjoy the attention?" Omega does in fact enjoy the attention.
It's okay. Omega pins Shadow to the ground too, not out of retaliation but because he wants to. He likes watching him struggle. *Lenny face*
I'll do team dark polycule Headcannons at some point! God I love Shadow and Omega.
