the amount of hate jeremy slater has for moon knight, the character he was tasked to write for a television show is actually hilarious when you stop breaking down over the fact that this show was always doomed to be shit. i'm just laughing about how this guy wrote steven to be the most blank slate of a character so nobody would compare him to batman, when he could’ve… i don't know just written something good

i find it incredibly funny how some of you really do think the moon knight creative team gave a shit about jewish people when they couldn’t even say the word. thats not to mention that they changed the system’s denomination and elias’ status as a rabbi, clearly they think we are all interchangeable. thats not a fucking good thing.

im not trying to say that if jewish people enjoyed the show, they are wrong, just that its strange to pretend they cared when they really didnt. you can see with a show like ms marvel what it looks like when a creative team actually cares, and if you think moon knight is anywhere close to that youve lost your mind

moon knight fandom stop being weird about jewish people for once.

you’ll either sit there and act like the system isn’t jewish because you forgot, or it just doesn’t matter to you as someone not in the community. or you’ll go out of your way to write the most offensive thing possible. the system being jewish is not a headcanon, its been a part of the character since the 80’s. acknowledge his faith and do your research or don’t talk about them at all.

Easter was a more laid-back holiday than Christmas. Undoubtedly, the holiday was filled with family, friends, and delicious food. On Easter Sunday, people would receive chocolate eggs and occasionally a bunny. It was enjoyable to be able to celebrate these things. Furthermore, spring had just arrived, which meant that new flowers bloomed and everything came back to life after a long absence. In order to welcome the seasonally warm air, many people opened the windows instead of getting cosy for the winter.

Steven felt like he was on cloud nine; he had a cheerful mood. While the whole Easter dinner preparation was a bit overwhelming at times, he didn’t mind as long as you were with him and Gus.

for real though. moon knight is a jewish character that runs on jewish values because he was raised jewish by a rabbi. kevin feige or mohamed diab or whoever made this call thinking a barely noticeable necklace, a kippah, and the word "shiva" are enough is an act of blatant, almost taunting antisemitism. i don't wanna hear fucking anything about the assembled episode from anyone.

So Let’s Talk Where Moon Knight Went Wrong.

Now that I’m done with finals and can stress and overthink about what i did, should have done, or didn’t do on my final,…..and because it’s been a couple of days, I can talk to ya’ll about Moon Knight. 

First! Moon Knight’s mistake was focusing too much on Egypt. And don’t get me wrong, that’s really clear where the showrunners wanted to be. But it came at a cost, where the mythology overtook the story. That being said, the Indiana Jones esque quest for the tomb of Ammit, or what turned out to be the tomb of Alexander the great was cool in parts. They did a good job with the visuals, and pulling cool shots from the comics, but the fight scenes lacked imagination. But it lacked…well it lacked Moon Knight. It lacked Marc Spector. 

2. Marc! It is still baffling to me how much this show was NOT about Marc. Like yeah he’s a character and he is Moon Knight, but we learn very little about him, and we don’t get a chance to form an emotional connection to him or his past. I think part of the issue was starting with Steven and pretty much, intentionally or not, building him up as the real person. The audience gets to know things about Marc,  but they don’t really get to know Marc. Even the part that explained how Marc met Khonshu lacked something for me. 

3. Marc’s backstory and Jewish representation. This honestly should be number one, but I wanted to lead into it. I know the MCU is different, I do. But it annoys me how much the MCU cherry-picks. Marc is not Captain America with years of story to pull from and he’s not Superman with decades of continuity and reboots to pick from. 

His father is a Rabbi, and he experienced antisemitic attacks growing up as a religious kid. YEAH, Jews still get attacked and beaten. Nothing’s changed. Then to top it off he finds out that one of the members of the community is a freaking Nazi in hiding. But I guess that wasn’t cool or dramatic enough so they gave him an abusive mom who blames him for the likely accidental death of his younger brother. Like…this part was unnecessary, and we also don’t really get why or how his mom went from just blaming him for his brother’s death, to beating the crap out of him with a belt. 

His father being passive was at least included, but they couldn’t mention he was a Rabbi. We got some vaguely Jewish one liners, two “blink and you miss it” Star of David shots, and one mention of shiva. I get show don’t tell, but it was like you couldn’t even say the word Jew. And that’s kind of a problem. 

Then you have the freaking Kippah scene. What is he crying over? What does the Kippah mean to him? Does the kippah matter? How? Why? If a Jewish person does not understand a character is Jewish did you even try at all? I see Marc’s family and some vague Shiva, and wow, a religious Jew, but does that mean anything to Marc? I don’t know. 

Marc in the comics, in the present run really struggles with the Jewish identity part of his backstory. Meanwhile, Ben Grimm sends him holiday cards (I refuse to believe it’s only on Hanukkah). Like there are so many things they could have done. 

I think it boils down to them not really understanding the character, and just getting the gist of who he is from like an 8 minute youtube video. 

What is so scary about ACTUALLY calling a character Jewish? Why can’t we say Jew?

another solid arguement for sorcerer supreme illyana and apprentice billy: illy was in limbo for the pop punk renaissance, while billy was probably at warp tour. [ID: three panel digital comic Panel 1: Billy Kaplan's phone rings; on the screen, it shows the caller as Dr. Pryde. O.S. Billy excalims "oh!". Panel 2: Billy anwsers the call, relaxing on his couch.
