Slow progress but progress nonetheless.

The warm weather in combination with my dayjob saps almost all of my energy XD

Anyway, I still try to be active during Artfight (I'm team Crystal) but I don't think I manage much this year. But July's long, we see how everything will turn out in due time.

Redesign - Nelvinor - Human Form - Lineart

I actually had to redo parts of the lineart three times since I merged layers while they were just half opacity multiple times XD

Since Nelvinor works mainly as a gold- and silversmith he's usually decked out with his own creations, following the creed of being is own best advertisement. His main creations are transformable jewlery which changes shape with the dragon to always fit and jewelry helping dragons, who can't turn into a fully human form, to achieve it without difficulty. As for the later, Nel never wears those himself since he's kind of snobish and very proud to have enough magical prowess to shapeshift without help.

Redesign - Nelvinor - Human Form - WIP

While doing his dragon form I was contemplating also redoing his human form. Well, now I've just started XD

I also have a (still vague) plan to merge both images in a way. We'll see how it turns out once we come to this point.

Funny thing is, Nel isn't a good representation of what the dragons of the setting look like in their human forms. His magical prowess allows him to look nearly fully human while the other dragons retain maily their horns and ears, with some also showing scales at some body parts.

That said, if Nel's agitated his horns and ears will return and he's a bit hotheaded at times despite being a frost dragon.

I tried something a little different with the background, in part inspired by Leyendecker's simple backgrounds where he used lines and circles to frame the people.

Thoughts about Vanum

I thought now for some time to do something with the first (sadly unfinished) original story I posted called Vanum. While I still enjoy it, especially the first part, I feel like a rewrite isn't just necessary to even out some mistakes but also to tighten things up a little.

Funny thing is, that the story in and of itself is already a full rewrite of a fanfiction or rather a fan adventure with a huge cast of original characters (much more than canon characters that appeared) I don't know if people figured it ever out what fandom it was as I never said it and not just filed off the serial numbers, so to speak, but also went down a daylong world building session to make everything as original as possible.

Well, now I feel comfortable to actually say what fandom it was, namely it was a Homestuck fan adventure set in Alternia because I thought of the whole world building with the Trolls as very interesting and worthy to explore a bid further. It was a nice exercise but soon I found the scope of the story I wanted to tell shift and morph into something that the world building of Homestuck didn't fit anymore as I had to headcanon so many details they started to stray so much from the canon I decided to turn it into an original story.

And now here we are, with me adding more stuff to write to my list XD. Yet, it's also something I need to make any progress on any story I currently write on. It helps me to write multiple different stories parallel since it helps me staying creative to avoid a full writer's block. Well, we'll see how fast I'll manage to be with everything from now on.

Not much has changed but I managed to get him closer to what I actually imagine (damn the dissonance between mind and execution XD)

On a side note, I still try to get my book published traditional since living in Germany means I would've to dox myself in order to self-publish or pay nearly 200€ or more to remain relatively anonymous.

The ghosting is also strong with German publishers as well as literary agents, that is if the people, who are actually willing to take on a fantasy novel, are actually still in business (not to speak of many of their websites being either very bare bone or not updated for over a year). As far as my experience goes, I can confidently say that writing a book or even multiple books is easy but getting someone to even look at you is the true challenge. At least in Germany.

I even consider translating everything into english and try to get a deal with an American/English publisher if feasible.

In 2020 I did the full mermay challenge and drew a barrel eye fish mermaid and really like the design despite the old piece showing its age. So I thought why not make some sort of redraw of it.

This one is of a mermaid having encountered a sea snake (a yellow-bellied sea snake to be precise)

TSBT - Hart of Ten Cover

This turned out so good, despite there being a few things I might change/redo at a later point. Considering the story, I'm already well over 30.000 words and there will be more, so this one will be a bit longer than The Selkies.
