Apr 9, 2022: “The difference between try and triumph is a little umph” - Unknown . On the Saturday before Easter I rode Griffin independently for the first time in several months. We practiced Grade 1 Novice Test A and had a few bobbles but it went great! I think we are going to be able to film the test for virtual judging again soon and I’m excited! We are getting better all the time and Griffin was such a good boy. Thank you so much for putting up with me buddy, I know you don’t understand why I do these crazy dressage tests. I appreciate you so much 😊❤️🐴🇺🇸 . I will put the whole video of us riding up soon. . #equinepartner #equinepartnership #dressage #paradressage #dressagetest #dressageteam #fyp #photooftheday #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #trusttheprocess #enjoythejourney #usef #adultamateur #chasingdreams #breakingbarriers #littlesteps #sponsoredrider #troxelhelmets #troxelshare #kerritseq #kerritsrootd #neverknockgoods #cerebralpalsy #disabledathlete #strongereveryday #goodboy #aspiringparalympian (at Quantum Leap Farm, Inc.) https://www.instagram.com/p/CcjsjqYMKsM/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

February 28th, 2022: “While time will fade, these hoofprints, the ones left on your heart, will never disappear.” Heaven gained a gorgeous, precious, special angel yesterday. After having health issues for a while, Shane suddenly developed laminitis and crossed the rainbow bridge surrounded by the souls and spirits of all who loved him . I don’t quite know how to put all my feelings in words, but my heart hurts 💔 At the same time, I’m glad that my special boy is no longer suffering. . My Shaners, I’m so grateful that you came into my life. For the better part of three years, you supported me through everything. Seeing your face would always bring peace. . You taught me patience and hard work, challenged me, learned dressage with me, celebrated with me when I got classified, made me laugh, and gave me your heart, so I gave you mine in return. . You hold a special place in my heart as the horse that helped me start on the path towards the Paralympics. We were featured in US Equestrian magazine, and were on the news together. You helped me teach people about what it means to be a paraequestrian and how it is imperative that our stories be told in the equestrian community. With you, I entered my first dressage show and received my first official score and comments from a respected judge. I remember being ecstatic when we took our final halt together. Our score was far from perfect, but that is trivial to the joy of sharing that experience with you. I can’t thank you enough for everything you helped me do. . I love your goofiness and your grace. The way you excelled at your job and helped me and many others continue our studies in the art of horsemanship. I love how you would nicker for treats and let everyone come up to pet you. . My only regret is that we didn’t have more time together. I’d give anything to see you and love you one more time. I knew your time was coming but I didn’t think it would be this soon. I’m sorry that I couldn’t be there for you in your last moments. I wish I could have done more for you. I hold the memory and feeling of the last lap kisses you gave me fondly. I love you with my whole heart and then some ❤️ . Run free, my love ❤️🕊🌈 https://www.instagram.com/p/CalCnItrHtU/?utm_medium=tumblr

Jan 15th 2022 and Dec 23rd, 2021: “There is no better place to heal [a broken heart] than on the back of a horse.- Missy Lyons . Hi everyone! I hope you’re all well! I’m finally back after a really long hiatus. Life has been wild since I posted last and I haven’t had the energy or time to post, but now I feel ready to start again. Before Christmas break, I started working with a new four legged friend! Meet Cassati, a nine year old flea bitten grey Holstiener gelding and ex-showjumper. He is so affectionate and curious, and most definitely an in your pocket kind of horse. He also has a great forward walk that is easy for me to ride. I have only had two rides on him, so we are still getting to know each other, but it seems like we fit together well so far! My goal is to continue working with him for the foreseeable future and refilm FEI Novice Test A for the virtual judging program later this year! In other good news, I got a part time job working as a Clerk for the Radiology Scheduling Department at Baycare Health System! 😊 . I don’t want to go into detail about why I stopped posting for so long, but November and December were incredibly difficult months for me. I went through a lot of loss and change. I’m honestly still working to move on from everything, and I have good days and bad days. But, I’m still showing up and doing the best I can for myself. I have picked myself up and with help from everyone in my incredible support system, have continued on the path towards my dreams. I am on my way again. 😊🐴❤️🇺🇸 . #healing #healingisnotlinear #horses #horsesheal #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #equestrian #paraequestrian #dressage #paradressage #fyp #photooftheday #usef #adultamateur #progressnotperfection #trusttheprocess #loveyourself #disabled #cerebralpalsy #chasingdreams #breakingbarriers #kerritseq #troxelhelmets #sponsoredrider #kerritsrootd #myariat #moveunited #jointhejoy #enjoythejourney #cassati #goodboy (at Quantum Leap Farm, Inc.) https://www.instagram.com/p/CYy5pfLr85H/?utm_medium=tumblr

Oct 22, 2021: Took a trip with my roommate to finally check out @worldequestriancenter Ocala yesterday! There is CDI dressage going on this weekend and my friend and trainer @nina_michelangelo was showing in a different class with her horse Cleo so we thought it would be the best day come out to show support, watch her school, and see the facility! This place is nothing short of amazing. Elegant, clean, well organized, gorgeous, huge, and best of all accessible! I could go anywhere on grounds that I wanted without feeling stuck, and the barns are spacious with huge stalls and concrete floors. There’s also a great selection of places to eat with decently priced food, shops including an @ariatequestrian store, a really fancy hotel with an even fancier lobby that has horse and dog pictures everywhere, multiple huge arenas and rings, and plenty of turnout paddocks. Long story short: I loved every second here, didn’t want to leave, really want to show here, and hope that they bring paradressage events here soon! . P.S I wear this red, white, and blue Ariat riding shirt whenever I go to a new horse related place that correlates with my goals because it reminds me of my long term goal! . #adventure #explore #horses #horse #worldequestriancenterocala #worldequestriancenter #equestrian #paraequestrian #dressage #paradressage #fyp #photooftheday #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #enjoythejourney #supporteachother #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #bigdreams #funtimes #chasingdreams #breakingbarriers #disabled #disabledathlete #myariat #kerritseq #aspiringparalympian #la2028 (at World Equestrian Center - Ocala) https://www.instagram.com/p/CVZAt8JLa7R/?utm_medium=tumblr

Oct 9, 2021: “All equestrians, if they last long enough, learn that riding in whatever form is a lifelong sport and art, an endeavor that is both familiar and new every time you take your horse out of the pasture.” - Jane Smiley . I had a great lesson with Shane yesterday. We worked on diagonals, a half circle serpentine, and 10 m circles to prepare for filming for virtual judging again, and boy was it a workout! . Shane did as well as he could with my directions, I know I’m still holding him back. I still struggle with relaxing my shoulders, and bending my elbows so that my arms can come down. But, I’m learning every day and doing my best to be better. I’m so excited to be able to record the test again after a little more practice. Thanks for being such a good partner Shaner buddy ❤️🐴😊🇺🇸 . May 7th, 2021: “There’s nothing better than putting your arms around your horse’s neck, feeling their warmth against yours, and letting them know that you love them with all your heart” - Me 😊 . For the longest time, I couldn’t hug a horse like this from the saddle because going down that far was really painful for me. Biking has really helped to loosen my hips and now I can give Shane and Cappy even more love which makes me so happy ❤️ . I had a really good lesson today! I practiced some independent riding and then Mrs. Lisa had me practice turning my head while keeping my body centered. Usually, when I move my head, my body wants to come with it so I need to learn to separate my head movement from my body so that my horses can better understand where I want them to go. That will help me ride better and allow us to reach other milestones easier. I tried my best to keep my arms relaxed while riding him today, but they still need some work. Cappy was such a good boy and did his very best. I think I’m going to make a new tradition of hugging him at the end of every lesson because it’s soothing for both of us 😊. I can’t wait to see Shane tomorrow and give him a hug too 😊❤️🐴🇺🇸 . #horseylove #horseyhugs #loveyourhorse #horselover #horses #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #progressnotperfection #equestrian #paraequestrian #dressage #paradressage #usef #adultamateur #explorepage #photooftheday #iloveyou #trusttheprocess #enjoythejourney #strongereveryday #chaseyourdreams #troxelhelmets #troxelshare #neverknockgoods #myariat #kerritseq #kerritsrootd #cerebralpalsy #aspiringparalympian #la2028 #iamusequestrian (at Emerald M Therapeutic Riding Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/COlaBn1HOBT/?igshid=ic5p3ucb93fs

April 5th, 2021: “Some people dream of success, others wake up and work hard at it.”- Clinton Anderson . Cappy and I had a great lesson today! It was really hot so we couldn’t be working for too long, but what we did get out was awesome 😊 We practiced our independent riding and my personal goal today was to guide Cappy around without looking down and I did it! I also didn’t get nervous when Cappy wanted to veer off somewhere else and both of these things together made our ride great and helped Cappy be more comfortable with me! I’m so happy with how it went and I’m hoping that I can ride without sidewalkers really soon because that would open up so many doors for us, but even if it doesn’t happen yet I’m still so excited for the rest of my lessons this week! My next personal goal is to release the tension in my arms and shoulders so I can follow Cappy’s movement better. Although I’m not balancing with my arms anymore my body needs to be as fluid as I can make it for my horses. I love them so much and I can’t wait to see where we go next 😊♥️🐴🇺🇸 . P.S Prior to the taking of this photo Cappy decided my arm was a tasty snack 😂 No worries I’m not hurt, just wanted to show that everything isn’t always as perfect as it seems 😊. As if they were doing me some kind of kindness, some kind of “good deed of the day” by putting ramps in, or making otherwise accessible housing. Somebody out there thought, “I didn’t have to do that! But I am SUCH a good person, that I threw a ramp down across the lot from the handicapped spaces everyone steals!”
Even in 2021, the disabled community is an afterthought, as if we were second-class citizens. Hell, they’ve even got us fighting for expensive and limited resources. It almost feels like some kind of fucked up competition between disabled people – there aren’t enough accessible apartments/homes to go around, not enough specialized driving instructors, not enough in home staff, not enough SSI, and not enough case managers to manage it all.
It’s insanely expensive, not to mention there are a thousand hoops you have to jump through to even begin to get the help you need. When I applied for my SSI, I had to prove I was disabled. They took me into a doctors office, and there was a guy with a clip pad. He asked me a lot of questions. Like, “Can you walk to me?” I said no. Because I can’t. He said, “Can you walk to your walker?” I thought this was really strange, but I got up and tried it. I take two steps. He moves my walker back. I take another two steps, maybe, practically fall over, and then had to use the furniture to get back to the examination bed. It was so embarrassing, and all I wanted to do was leave.
I sort of forgot where I was going with this – just, this is ridiculous, and something needs to change.

April 24th, 2021: “Never give up on a dream just because of the time it takes to accomplish it” -Earl Nightingale . Shane and I had a great lesson yesterday practicing some components of Grade 1 Novice Test A! We did half circles, free walk on the diagonals and practicing transitions at the letters, and 10 m circles. I have a lot I need to work on like continuing to bend my elbows and use my core to keep my body forward so that he doesn’t stop, and being subtle as I’m regathering the reins at the end of the diagonal so that we keep the forward momentum there too. One thing I’m really glad about is that I understand how to ride circles more accurately now, and that I can make them even better with more practice. Shane was such a good boy and did his best to do his job even though my body wasn’t helping 😊 . When we were done in the arena we went for a quick trail ride around the property which we both really enjoyed and i made sure to give him lots of pats. . I was going to enter a virtual show this month with Shane so that we could get more feedback on this test in the Test of Choice class, but the timing didn’t end up working out. I’m sad about it but I know it’s not the end of the world and that there will be more shows to enter. I’m never giving up on my dreams and goals, even if it takes a long time to reach them 😊❤️🐴🇺🇸 . #nevergiveup #notgivingup #progressnotperfection #enjoythejourney #trustheprocess #explorepage #photooftheday #fyp #dressage #paradressage #equestrian #paraequestrian #horses #usef #adultamateur #sponsoredrider #troxelhelmets #troxelshare #kerritseq #kerritsrootd #myariat #strongereveryday #chasingdreams #dreambig #breakingbarriers #cerebralpalsy #aspiringparalympian #la2028 #iamusequestrian (at Quantum Leap Farm, Inc.) https://www.instagram.com/p/COF6lVBHztz/?igshid=l9w2s60vq0o9

“The passion for riding [and horses] really is something that’s hard to describe. It’s something that’s such a part of your life. It’s something that you need, almost like air or water.” - Unknown . Horses have always been a part of my life, even before I had the chance to really be around them and ride. I love every horse in my life with my whole hard and I hope they know how much I love them too. . I had a really great lesson with Cappy today! I got to practice lots of independent riding and my balance and strength are getting so much better 😊 Riding in the bareback pad felt like second nature and my legs were really relaxed. I still need to work on some small things like keeping my eyes forward all the time, but I’m getting better and stronger all the time and am so happy. I even could lean forward all the way to put my arms around Cappy and give him a hug which I have never been able to do before. He absolutely loved it!😁Cappy did so well listening today and was such a good boy ❤️ I’m looking forward to my next lesson and I know there are great things in store for us 😊❤️🐴🇺🇸 . #trusttheprocess #growingeveryday #strongereveryday #enjoythejourney #horselove #horses #horsemanship #partnership #equinepartner #photooftheday #explorepage #fyp #usef #adultamateur #dressage #paradressage #equestrian #paraequestrian #chasingdreams #breakingbarriers #troxelhelmets #troxelshare #kerritseq #kerritsrootd #myariat #cerebralpalsy #disabledathlete #disabledbutnotreally #aspiringparalympian #la2028 (at Emerald M Therapeutic Riding Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/COBXa9EHuU9/?igshid=knhwn91eg51

April 16, 2021: “Friendship is always waiting at the barn”- Unknown . Guys! I got to make a new smol friend today! This is S’mores and he is one of the mini’s at Emerald M! After working on exercises with the Equicizer, I got the chance to hang out with him and get him desensitized to my chair 😊 It was so fun! At first he was afraid of my chair but after he saw it wasn’t scary, he tried to climb on my lap! 😂 S’mores is such a cutie ❤️ . With the Equicizer, I practiced stepping up onto a mounting block and transferring onto it from there with help. Doing that gave me this whole new feeling of empowerment as I have never used one before, and I am happy that I can more directly help with the mounting process. Once I was safely on, I practiced using two whips while holding more reins, and I am more confident in my ability to use them wisely, gently, and correctly. I’m so excited for next week with Cappy and all the other Emerald M ponies! The future is looking brighter every day 😊❤️🐴🇺🇸 . #newfriends #friends #friendship #barnfriends #horses #usef #adultamateur #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #teamwork #partners #love #paradressage #dressage #equestrian #paraequestrian #thefutureisbright #strongereveryday #enjoythejourney #photooftheday #explorepage #troxelhelmets #troxelshare #kerritseq #myariat #ariatequestrian #chasingdreams #breakingbarriers #equestrianaf #cerebralpalsy #aspiringparalympian (at Emerald M Therapeutic Riding Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNvX_bOH2Ko/?igshid=14o7zdtpmhe33

April 14th, 2021: “Our hoofbeats were many, but our hearts beat as one”- Unknown . Cappy and I got to take a picture with our blue ribbon from the @littlebit_trc show today! I’m so thankful to everyone who helped us achieve this and so grateful to have the opportunities that I so with Cappy. This ribbon holds a special place in my heart because it has inspired me to keep going and not give up on my dreams. It is more than just a blue decoration, it means that my dreams are possible. . I have been working very hard to be a better rider for Cappy in our independent riding sessions by building endurance and strength through bike riding and other exercises at home, and that work has been paying off! Today I found it much easier to sit forward so that my hands could come down, and I could tolerate riding in the heat for longer than usual. Tracking left was also way easier than last lesson and I felt more confident in what I was doing. The right was smooth sailing as usual. I need to work on keeping the whips even while holding the reins, because when we were tracking left i kept holding it in such a way that mede Cappy want to move right instead of stay close to the rail. So, we are going to be doing @equicizer work next lesson to help me with that and work on some other important things as well! Next week I’ll be riding Cappy in a regular bareback pad and I’m super excited to give it a try! I’m so ready, and I know it’s one step closer to being able to ride in my favorite dressage tack! I’m enjoying the journey with Shane and Cappy so much, even through my doubts and worries that surface sometimes, and I know that we’ll make it together as a team 😊❤️🐴🇺🇸 . #team #teamwork #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #partnership #horsemanship #usef #adultamateur #dressage #paradressage #equestrian #paraequestrian #horses #explorepage #photooftheday #fyp #enjoythejourney #trusttheprocess #strongereveryday #thefutureisbright #troxelhelmets #troxelshare #sponsoredrider #ariat #myariat #kerritseq #chasingdreams #blueribbon #strongereveryday #cerebralpalsy #aspiringparalympian #la2028 (at Emerald M Therapeutic Riding Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNqKlc3nnVe/?igshid=1w1p37ctn47nx

April 9th, 2020: “ I am his eyes. He is my wings. I am his voice. He is my spirit. I am his human. He is my horse.” . Cappy and I had a great lesson today practicing our communication with each other and independent riding with two whips! Eventually I will use just one 😊 We had an efficient and effective warm up we started off by tracking right which went as well as Wednesday! I have a harder time tracking left so we went that way too. I definitely still need to work on it because it is my weaker side. Cappy is a terrific teacher and he is helping me overcome my tendency to stop instead of encouraging him forward if we miscommunicate, especially while tracking left. If you end up getting off track, it is always better to keep the momentum going and find your way back. After a few tries, I succeeded in getting him more out towards the rail and going at a steady pace, which is what you see in the video. Yes, he could be more forward but I’m so proud of myself for sticking with Cappy when I could have just given up. Being persistent and patient is so important when riding. Thank you sweet boy for helping me learn so much today. We have been growing so much and I’m excited to see what the future holds. 😊❤️🐴🇺🇸 . “Why do I ride horses? Because I look at my horse and I see my hopes and dreams. I see my happiness. I see my success. I see my pride and my soul. I look at my horse and I see myself. . Wow you guys, today’s lesson was crazy amazing. I practiced riding Cappy independently, except i held a whip in each hand for the first time! I don’t know what switch went off in my head but I felt amazing. Cappy and I were comfortably gliding around the arena and everything felt strangely easier to manage, despite having more to think about 😂 We didn’t manage to get any video, but we will practice more on Friday and get a little clip then. I wasn’t expecting to do this at all but I’m glad I did! April 2nd, 2021: “Gain the trust of a horse, and you have earned a friend for life.”- Unknown . Cappy and I had another independent riding lesson yesterday! Every lesson I’m learning how to deal with frustration and challenging situations, which is so important for becoming a competent horsewoman that puts the horse first. Something outside the arena made Cappy nervous, and I did my best to calm him and let him know it was safe. We eventually made it through that tough spot and I was proud of us! . Sometimes I struggle with looking up when riding because there’s so much i need to focus on that I’m not sure where to look 😂 I have to constantly remind myself to look up so that Cappy knows where I want him to go with certainty. Don’t worry buddy, I’ll be a pro at communicating with you soon. After all, the only way you can do your job is if I give you clear instructions. . After dismounting, I held Cappy’s lead rope and gave him pats before going inside. He really liked under the chin groove scratches and Mrs. Lisa got this super cute picture of me petting him! Thanks for being such a good boy buddy, hope you’re having a Happy Cappy Saturday! . #horselove #horsegirl #agirlandherhorse #love #horses #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #strongereveryday #horsemanship #trusttheprocess #trustyourself #equestrian #paraequestrian #dressage #paradressage #usef #adultamateur #explore #photo #fyp #sponsoredrider #troxelhelmets #troxelshare #kerritseq #ovationriding #myariat #thefutureisbright #chasingdreams #breakingbarriers #cerebralpalsy #aspiringparalympian (at Emerald M Therapeutic Riding Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNNOSR5HyVE/?igshid=14ylpd2rvocjj

March 31st, 2020: “There are things that a horse did for me that a human couldn’t have done.”- Buck Brannaman . Horses give me the strength to deal with the challenges of daily life. Just looking at one melts all my worries away, even if it’s just a picture and I’m not physically there. I know that my horses are helping me learn and grow into a better athlete and a better person, along with the wonderful people I am connected to through them. . Cappy and I had a great lesson on Wednesday working on independent riding! I also practiced the proper way to steer for turns so that my body doesn’t collapse through them, and I don’t drag my horse through turns as a result. We both did so well and I am very proud of us! . I also got the chance to take over the @kerritseq Instagram for the last day of #cpawarenessmonth ! Go check it out by going to the highlight Bryanna + CP on their page! It would mean a lot to me ❤️ I share a lot of good information about CP and how ableism (the favoring of the able bodied) affects disabled equestrians ability to fully participate in the horse industry. . #strength #horses #trusttheprocess #believeinyourself #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #independence #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #thefutureisbright #explorepage #photooftheday #fyp #usef #adultamateur #dressage #paradressage #equestrian #paraequestrian #chasingdreams #breakingbarriers #kerritseq #myariat #troxelhelmets #sponsoredrider #troxelshare #disability #cerebralpalsy #aspiringparalympian #la2028 (at Emerald M Therapeutic Riding Center) https://www.instagram.com/p/CNKsAx1nw0B/?igshid=1ntu54n0c7g2o

March 27, 2021: “Offer them respect, earn their trust, build a relationship, rejoice in the love, become a team.”- Unknown . Shane and I had a fantastic lesson and lots of time together today. We were able to go through FEI Grade 1 Novice Test A twice, and I’m getting so much better at the half circles down centerline! My legs were also super relaxed and it was fun to get to try it all in a halter instead of a bridle today 😊 After we were done with the test we had enough time to go down the driveway for a break and change of scenery and Shane really enjoyed it! There’s lots of video of us outside if you scroll through 😊 With all the people that come for lessons it’s rare that we get to be together this much, so I had such a blast. Being able to ride Shane outside with someone clipped on was also huge for me because it gave me confidence that I’ll be able to go on trail rides with my friends in the future which is something I have wanted to do since my childhood ♥️ You were a star today Shaners, this is one of the best days I’ve had with you in a long time and I’m so grateful to have you as a partner 😊🇺🇸♥️🐴 . Shane and I are looking to enter a virtual show together in mid April and go through the test again for the USEF/ USPEA virtual judging program in May. And of course I am going to keep working on riding Cappy independently and enter more shows with him later this year. I love showing because it is a chance for me to showcase the partnerships I have with my equine partners. . #horsemanship #teamworkmakesthedreamwork #equinepartner #trustyourself #enjoythejourney #haveconfidence #believeinyourself #horses #strongereveryday #fyp #explorepage #photooftheday #usef #adultamateur #equestrian #paraequestrian #dressage #paradressagerider #paradressage #thefutureisbright #lovingeveryminute #lovingit #chasingdreams #troxelhelmets #troxelshare #kerritsrootd #kerritseq #myariat #cerebralpalsy #aspiringparalympian (at Quantum Leap Farm, Inc.) https://www.instagram.com/p/CM7rMS4nK-q/?igshid=1j0b06krcerii
