If you are in any online spaces that discuss the morality of fiction or its censorship, please keep the following in mind:
CSAM refers to Child Sexual Abuse Material. This is a term that was created for use by US federal law enforcement. As such, it is important to remember that this is a term used specifically to describe illegal sexual content that is produced involving real children. the term CSAM was specifically constructed to highlight the trauma these victims experience because of this abuse, and therefore their humanity.
if you come across CSAM online, you should immediately report it to a tip line. Some websites that host their servers in the US are subject to US federal law even if the person who posted it does not currently reside in the US, so keep that in mind when reporting. again, this is involving CSAM - it is illegal sexual content involving real children.
CSEM refers to Child Sexual Exploitation Material. This is material that involves a real child in a sexualized situation, but either 1- the material itself is not illegal to possess, or 2- the material is not sexualized, but is included in a series or other content that does contain CSAM. Think along the lines or a parent with a few too many photos of their child in the bath. These images are not explicitly sexual, and are not illegal in and of themselves, but they can be used exploitatively.
If you come across CSEM online, it's still a good idea to send in a tip as well as alerting the website it was posted on. Even if the content itself isn't technically illegal, some websites do have strict rules regarding nudity and the sexualization of minors, which can help stop the spread of such materials and reduce the impact on the affected child.
CSAM and CSEM are words used to describe the assault, abuse, sexualization, and exploitation of real children. CSAM, specifically, is used as a way to identify and remove these materials.
CSAM and CSEM do not apply to fiction. They don't apply to any fictionalized or simulated child abuse or sexualized children. They only refer to real children.
Do not send in tips about fictionalized child abuse or sexualized children to tip lines meant to be used for CSAM.
Do not use the words CSAM and CSEM when discussing fictionalized child abuse or sexualized children. In a worst case scenario, it leads to people misusing tip lines due to a conflation of CSAM with fictionalized depictions.
In a more likely scenario, using CSAM to refer to fiction minimizes what CSAM was created to do - which was highlight the trauma experienced by survivors, and therefore draw attention to their humanity. By continuing to use these terms in situations that do not involve real people, it reduces that impact.

a few reminders because i’m tired and angry
fandom is a hobby, not a form of activism
adult women aren’t inherently creepy for being in fandom and having hobbies apart from raising babies and doing taxes
the vast majority of people pushing back against the worrying trend of instigating harassment over fictional characters and relationships aren’t incest supporters or pedophiles, actually
liking a m/f ship doesn’t make someone a dirty heterosexual invading your space
preferring gay ships doesn’t make you ‘’woke’’ and good
no one owes you a disclaimer that they are a good person who recognizes that their favorite fictional villain’s actions are evil and that they don’t condone those actions irl
liking a fictional villain is in no way comparable to advocating abuse/murder/genocide/etc and you’re a fucking idiot if you believe that
just because a woman is attracted to a fictional villain doesn’t mean she’s promoting toxic relationships or going to end up in a toxic relationship. assuming women can’t tell fiction and reality apart stinks of internalized misogyny
some rando’s a/b/o fanfics have none of the level of influence that popular tv shows and movies spreading propaganda have
no one owes you a detailed description of their traumas and mental health problems
abusive relationships are not the same as enemies to lovers ships
y’all need to chill the fuck out over people, relationships, actions and events that don’t actually exist and learn how to enjoy and discuss them like normal people
fandom is a hobby, not a form of activism
feel free to add more

now that trump has tiktok, twitter, facebook and insta in his pocket, get ready for a massive wave of internet censorship. one of trump's greatest weapons has always been misinformation; it's going to become harder and harder to spread facts and criticism going forward. posts that aren't made invisible will be magically ignored by the algorithm. dissidents will have their accounts deleted and voices erased.
this is a suppression tactic. this is another stage of fascism.

Antis have really ruined a lot of aspects of online debate, but one of the biggest ones is intimately tying dislike into morality.
You can dislike a character, even a heroic one, and still acknowledge that they are a hero. You don't have to conjure reasons why they're actually bad and problematic.
You can like a character, even a villanous one, and still acknowledge that they are a villain. You don't have to conjure reasons why they're actually good and wholesome.
Some asshole antis have spent so long harassing anyone who resonates with the wrong character that people have started trying to play their game from the other side, villainizing the heroes and glorifying the villains, so they won't face that anger from the antis, instead of just saying "yes, this character is a good person and i hate them/this character is a bad person and I like them."
The same applies to people in real life too. You don't have to like everyone you meet. There doesn't need to be a good reason for it; you can dislike people for any reason. People aren't willing to accept that anymore, though, since it is a known truth you have to still be respectful to people you dislike UNLESS they have done something terrible, and no one wants to do that. So instead they will make their dislike of people into a moral issue to avoid treating them respectfully. And you just... can't do that. You can't.

adding onto that… if you can’t separate fiction from reality you genuinely should NOT be in fandom spaces. I fear it’s kind of well… common sense that just because you support something like for example a murder in a show doesn’t mean you support a murder in real life.
if you can’t understand the clear difference between fiction and reality you shouldn’t be in fandom spaces; when you yourself can’t even separate the two.
Idk who needs to hear this but if anyone who sees fictional brothers kissing and thinks “oh I should kiss my brother” they’re too fucking young to be on these apps. NOBODY is that impressionable by the age of 13. By the age of 13 you should already know kissing your brother is wrong. And if you don’t, that’s not my fault, that’s not the OP’s fault.

I swear I don’t know where fan-fiction etiquette went but seriously this is starting to piss me off, I was reading a fic and opened the comments and just saw everyone and their fucking mother complaining like what???
Incase you forgot if YOU don’t like something, you don’t have to read it. No one is forcing you to consume media, no you CHOOSE what media you consume. If you don’t like something, scroll past it, ignore it or even block the person it really isn’t that hard.
You also don’t have to send literal death threats / r*pe threats over FICTIONAL characters either I promise you it will never be that deep.
Fan-fiction isn’t written for YOU, it’s written for the author first and foremost unless it’s a gifted work you have no right to complain about stuff because frankly they don’t owe you anything.
Authors who write these fan-fictions are fans, just like the people who are reading the fic. Just because you’re reading something doesn’t mean you are OWED something, so for once stop acting like an entitled brat.
Authors writing incest and or age-gap relationships make you uncomfortable? Cool idgaf, scroll and block them. Move on with your life and stop acting like a literal child because guess what?
You control the media you consume no one else is in control of that but YOU. No one is forcing you to read anything, or look at something. No one is doing that, because again no one owes you anything because just like how you have a safe place is the SAMEEE way authors on ao3 have a safe place that is welcoming for them.
Sorry for the rant guys, I just really needed to get this off of my chest and have no where else to talk about this lol.

Anti’s discovering that pro-shipping is the normal everywhere else besides america will never fail to make me laugh. Because genuinely what did they expect?
Western fans need to start accepting reality, every pairing is allowed in other places. English fandom spaces are the worse and most draining places to be in when it comes to shipping however everywhere else everyone is pretty much following “don’t like, don’t read”, “scroll and ignore”, and “block and move on”.
At the end of the it’s just fiction and it doesn’t harm anyone. Fans can enjoy the parings they like without any bullshit anti shipping discourse. At the end of the day you choose the media you consume, you choose what decided to interact in and what you don’t.
