We’ve been lighting up the @sam_shepparton building for the @sheppartonfestival with ‘The Art of Constant Change’. The morphing, fractured visuals in this artwork are driven by our own brainwaves. This artwork highlights how our neural function is affected by constantly changing global conditions. Over the past two years humans have experienced a time of remarkable transformation. Many people have been faced with the uncomfortable stillness of multiple pandemic lockdowns and a life of continual mutation. With very few fixed markers in place we navigate these times by refining our ability to adapt. This artwork reflects upon and responds to these extraordinary contemporary conditions. The led lights at the core of this work are controlled by environmental data collected from 5 trees from significant international ecosystems. The data includes recordings of soil moisture levels, temperatures, barometric qualities, movement and light. The different trees and their locations provides a broad international perspective, speaking to the interconnections between global ecosystems and the ways they can be represented as a single, living breathing entity. The sonic element of the work was developed through environmental field recordings of the trees and the ecosystems that support them. This includes recordings of the internal sounds of trees and underwater recordings from significant waterways adjacent to some of the studied trees. These juxtaposed recordings form an evocative audio score that transports the audience into the centre of each of these unique landscapes. . [ i miss your touch ] was created in 2020 as a virtual interactive video experience. This artwork won a Good Design Award (2020) and is now a finalist in the Premiers Design Awards - Yippee! . This virtual interactive video experience transports two people who are in separate locations into a shared virtual environment. This online platform launched in March 2020 as a rapid response to pandemic conditions. It helps people maintain meaningful social and physical connections and provides a personalised art experience.
