Voting In Churches and Police Stations
As a queer kid living in Georgia, I know a lot of folks--especially leftists, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and people of color--who plan on voting in the US election this November are going to feel more than a little reluctant to show up at churches and police stations.  Regardless of how you feel about the election or whether you want to vote personally, those who do want to vote should feel as safe as they can while doing so. There are options besides voting on Nov. 4th in long lines and agitated crowds. (Heads up to my pals with anxiety or similar issues, this might be for you too.)  Just Googling “vote early” brings up this:
Tumblr media
So we’re able to vote early when there might be less stress or a less stressful location available--or by mail via an absentee ballot, though that might not be much of a reassurance to Georgia voters in particular in light of recent voter fraud.  Being prepared, knowing your options, and having a plan should help prevent last minute panic and voters deciding to stay at home to avoid discomfort (or potential danger.) Bottom line: Don’t let them keep you from voting if you plan to vote.  Buddy up to feel more secure.  Be loud and active in stopping discrimination against people on any front.
EDIT: In case you were wondering, there has been data collected on the effects the votes cast.

Rant on the 50 Shades/Donald Drumf comparison below.  Mentions of rape culture, sexual assault, the 2k16 election debacle, and BDSM culture below the cut.
Tumblr media
"Consensual" non-consent forms are a HUGE controversy in BDSM circles because in those communities it's widely agreed that no one should ever feel that they aren't able to or won't be listened to if they try to stop a session at any point regardless of what might have been agreed upon beforehand.  This is why the “stop light” and safe word methods are so widely used and popular.  I have seen folks use checklists and forms to streamline the process of sorting kinks and squicks but it’s never a cut-and-dry implication that the submissive (or the dominant) can’t change their mind or express discomfort and be listened to.
I absolutely agree that the 50 Shades series is a portrayal of abuse.  (I don’t think this is really an argument I need to make considering the outpouring of intelligent articles that backed up their arguments with plenty of examples and research.)  Of course I was saddened and a little outraged by it's popularity, because I’m always saddened and a little outraged when oppressive culture is inadvertently perpetuated by those it affects the most. As far as I can tell the abuse in those books was only considered acceptable in a narrative that doesn't address it as abuse because of the rape culture that permeates every aspect of modern media.  Regardless, women dealing with internalized misogyny and a lack of access to information and acceptance concerning their sexuality and agency in relation to the popularity of a poorly written novel isn't a reason to invalidate the outrage we're now seeing at a presidential candidate advocating and confessing his involvement in very real and apparently repeated sexual assault.

Flint, Michigan now has nobody collecting the city’s garbage
The city of Flint, Michigan, best known across the nation for a water-pollution crisis which left an unknown number of residents exposed to dangerous levels of lead that has not yet been resolved, is running into major problems with another public utility. Trash pickup in the city is suspended until further notice, and the infrastructural ramifications could be devastating.

Three of the biggest school districts in America have more officers than counselors.
Tumblr media
According to a new investigation, there are more security officers than counselors in three of the five largest school districts in the United States: New York City, Chicago and Miami-Dade. It’s not an entirely shocking statistic, but it should be very alarming.

Happy Easter assholes. <3
About like.. three or four years ago, I bought toy stuffed bunny and then I bought a tiny toy bunny. And I used scissors to cut a hole in the ass of the bigger one, pulled some of the stuffing out, and then I put the tiny rabbit in a plastic easter egg, and put the egg in the bigger bunny. Then I sewed Velcro onto the rabbit’s ass so that the hole could be opened or closed. And so then you could make the rabbit lay an egg with a baby bunny inside it. Then I mailed this monstrosity to my best friend and was like “Happy Easter, bro.” And to this day, I crack the fuck up thinking about the look my friend gave me when I was making it in front of her and I wonder if my BFF still has it.
