The proverbial canaries in the societal coal mine are dying and the world is celebrating their silence

Sirens
The world crumbles
Like a building on fire
Violence so silent
In the cracking of beams
And someone stills calls
For those trapped in side
And someone still answers
As the world watches on
Though some turn away
Sirens still roar in defiance
And we stop
At their sound
And we watch
While they come into view
And we wait
Silently
As they pass us in the night
And we pray they make it
Pleading beyond our waking thoughts
That these are sirens are for others
And ours are safe and whole
#But they stopped and they watched and they waited and silently in their hearts#so deep and so hidden they prayed it was not for theirs#original poem#poem#poetry#poetic#writing

In Pursuit of Power
As children seek to learn about the world around them
They are punished for their beauty
Ugly, bruised, black and blue spots cover their soul
Tinged bitter yellow of perpetual healing
Fragile yellow petals battered and abused
Until they turn silver and learn to float away
Beautiful flowers deemed weeds
Grow from the barren ground
Leaving marigolds to rot unsprouted
Like the little black child left unwanted
They both die silently in the earth that should have nurtured them
And false blame is laid on the earth
You trampled on her
To avoid attacking the planter
Your helpless anger sought a target more yielding
To take its blows
Else they turn inward
To shatter your defense
Stripping beauty from her blackness
To decorate your ego
Leaving a child
To pick up her tattered pieces
Leaving naught but the sky
To color her eyes
In a world so unyielding in its desire
To match the clouds
Rather than the earth
Parents raise their children to fly higher
They are not allowed
To embrace the color of their birth

Do you ever feel absent but like from your own life????? Like it feels like every day is here, and you’re fucking missing it.

Automaton
I fear my soul has moved on And left this body deathless A living facsimile Of who I am Or what I was Though to most a masterful forgery Scrutiny reveals the cracks The missing pieces The almost theres and not quite rights The void beneath the surface of intelligence The listless heart beating dispassionately Hollow in every sense of the word Clanking through the day Consuming every song and story To see if anything Will beckon my soul home

Prescience Pretermit
Nostalgia is the thief Doomed to follow Orpheus’ path A trail worn in time itself Amid hollow memories Young wishes unfulfilled The silence grows untended And swallows the joy with the pain Indiscriminate in its hunger Leaving not a tear behind

Nascence
It calls from the other side Yearning to take shape To be freed from the shapeless Before To be proof A memento A mark on history Screaming to the great beyond We are here I was here I mattered We matter The birth of a thought Echoed Screams of joy Encompassed in silence Because it exists We exist It is loved because We love And It all starts with the voice From before the beginning Begging to join the chorus of now

I just remembered that I am allowed to do what I want on my blog, so here is the info dump on my series of numbered waka poems.
They are inspired by Japanese court poetry from the Heian era that I studied in a university class. They follow a strict 5-7-5-7-7 syllabic structure with no rhyming scheme and a heavy focus on imagery.
The poems are meant to be read as a collection as they tell a story that can be followed in a circle by starting with any one of the poems and reading the rest in order, with the first following the eighth. When read in order, they use imagery to explore the cyclical nature of relationships and the effect on those involved, with the narrator becoming increasingly detached in the later poems.
With all that said, here is the collection as a whole and I would love to hear how others interpret them!
1.
Winter melts away
as I take your hands in mine
fluttering petals
settled in your raven hair
herald the return of spring.
2.
Warmth of the sun’s rays
breathe new life into the world,
seducing the young
buds to adorn bare branches
in leaves of sultry green hue.
3.
The vibrant young leaves
are lined by the reflection
of the white silver
snow on the mountains, silent
parting gift of winter’s cold.
4.
In fields of green and
gold, the humble dandelion
raises its yellow
head in worship of the sun
before joining the white clouds.
5.
Kittens chasing the
butterfly, sunlit bodies
in rustling grass
quietly observed by their
mother basking in the sun.
6.
The sun delays her
rest, warming the windless air
as sleepless souls lay
awaiting the return of
the silent moon’s cool embrace.
7.
The air bites with cold
a spiteful lover now scorned
ignites the vibrant
leaves, reminders of summer
love burning the branches red.
8.
White flecks of silence
Filter from the sky, building
Into wide drifts of
Separation, highlighting
The nature of solitude.
