Inside of Robbie: Meet our new #intern Niklas, from #Germany!
Tumblr media
I’m Niklas Reischmann, 24 years old student who grew up in Ravensburg near Lake Constance in Germany. After my A Level, I immediately went to Munich for studying “Global Brand & Fashion Management”. In this subject I learned a lot about marketing and branding of companies. Furthermore I specialize myself in management and corporate communications. During my studies in my 4th semester I went to the “Mod’Art International” in Paris for one semester.  In Munich and Paris I improved my knowledge in English, French and some basics in Spanish. I did 2 other internships in Germany in the fashion market. My first was at Bogner, a skiwear company from Munich where I was in the sports sales. Last year I was in a big fashion retail store in Paderborn in Germany in Marketing. Now I’m working for the first time in another country and I’m excited to learn the new ways of solving problems.
During the following 12 weeks I will be assisting with the overall marketing plan, focusing specifically on the German market and exploring new opportunities available, for example the smart auto market. I hope, that I will get a lot of new experiences working in Spain with different nationalities.
My biggest passion is the FC Bayern Munich and I love football. I also like longboarding and watching American Football. I’m looking forward to Barcelona and hope that I will meet new people, discover another culture and see some interesting spots of Barcelona.

INSIDE ROBBIE: New Intern from Beijing To Barcelona!
Tumblr media
Hi there! My name is Melody Zhai and I am a year 3 Psychology major student concentrating in Health Psychology from the Education University of Hong Kong. I am passionate in helping people who suffer from mental health problems and promote better understanding and management of mental illness. I was raised in Beijing, completed my high school education in Toronto and currently pursuing my undergraduate degree in Hong Kong.
In this summer, part of the reason why I chose to come to Barcelona is because of its rich cultural heritage especially in art and architecture. And of course, its sunshine! Most importantly, I am eager to learn more about the current and future trend of artificial intelligence and how it could be applied to psychological science. In addition, I want to experience how it feels like to work in a multicultural environment.
During my 6 weeks internship at Robbie, I will be working on the commercial and marketing plans for Robbie AI Visio and Band. With my academic background of Psychology particularly in the field of mental health and my 20 years of experience living as well as studying in Mainland China and Hong Kong, I am confident in assisting the business development manager in identifying new markets and sales leads in the Asia Pacific area with the main focus on Chinese health and mental health markets.
I love running, hiking, music, wandering around museums and galleries. I have always been an adventurer and cannot wait to discover more about Barcelona in this summer!

INSIDE ROBBIE: Our Junior Front-End Developer.
Tumblr media
Im Anton Gregori Virtanen. Finnish-French born in the glorious country of Luxembourg—or how we like to call it “Lux Angeles”. I attended there a french High-School and graduated from the Economic and Social Sciences section.
As a Finnish national, I then did my military service in Santahamina, an island located in the region of Helsinki where I trained in Urban Warfare. My specialization weapon was a grenade machine gun, as I was assigned to the Anti-Tank Company. This training is necessary for when Winter will be coming, and the white walkers will begin their foretold invasion.
After the rigidity of military, I travelled to the other side of this planet to an old hippie colony named San Francisco (that has now been taken over by start-ups and other tech related companies). There I studied Graphic Design for 4 years.
Ensued then my journey back home to Luxembourg. I first worked in a design studio, but very shortly after that I started working as a Freelance realising I could make more this way. (Also in the meantime—as my time was fairly flexible—I also did a few odd jobs like photographers assistant, stage manager, and chauffeur for a movie actress.)
The more I worked in Graphic Design projects for various clients, the more I realised that I needed to learn how to properly create websites. This bringing me to the reason why I now am in Barcelona.
I looked online for different intensive courses, and found one in Barcelona called Ironhack. And after the course and few different interviews. I joined Robbie as a Junior Frontend Developer.
Here I work on building the main Infrastructure of the website using Javascript, React and Redux. I also do communication calls between the backend and the front-end. So that the data recorded on the server is then properly called and displayed on the main website. I am by far not an expert yet. But coding is one of the most interesting areas I have invested time studying. As there is still so much to learn, and I do believe that some things like D3 are the future of graphic design (at least when it comes to displaying a lot of data).
Other than all this, I also enjoy playing tennis, football, beach volley, and snowboard. Im also a bit of a nerd as I’ve played tabletop role playing games, still read a lot of manga, have watched A LOT of movies, and used to play way too much FPS for my own good.

Inside of #Robbie: welcoming our #intern Allan Zhong
I am a year-3 student majoring in social science and environmental science in the Education University of Hong Kong. I was born in mainland China, so I am a native speaker of mandarin or Putonghua, and I can also speak and write English. This is my first time working as a full-time intern and I am eager to gain some instructive working experience, so I am very excited for everything that I am going to learn from the Robbie AI team.
I am gonna be working in the Sales Team.
Tumblr media
What I have been studying are struggles among international powers, local interests deciding national decisions, etc. In a nutshell, the school pictures a world society in chaos to me. And this is also the case when I look into environment protection. Countries refuse to collaborate for environment conservation because of interest struggle. Therefore, I would like to travel overseas to experience how people in other countries actually treat foreigners, and to find out whether the world is as chaotic as the journals told me.
Besides, years ago I heard there were amazing buildings in Barcelona, plus that I am such a big fan of the Barça team, so here I am in barcelona. One surprise to me after I came here is the fabulous environment in Barcelona city. The sky is always clear and blue, and you can see pigeons walking around not being afraid of pedestrians. Here in Barcelona city, human lives harmoniously with the nature, so the internship in this beautiful city  will definitely be of great help to my future environmental study, and, eventually, be a reference for my future environmental conservation and recovery work.
As I stated before, I don’t have any full time work experience before, and I am so glad that I can begin my first time in the Robbie AI team. Spanish people are friendly, and my colleagues are even friendlier. They became friends to me since the first day of my internship. They have no discrimination on me because I am merely an intern with no skills while they are talented and skillful. This is no exaggeration. My school told me that I should be mentally prepared for insignificant works, because I might be regarded as a tea boy during the internship.
But the Robbie AI team accepted me since my first day of work. I think I have two major learning tasks here. One is to sit in the office. This is no joking. Sitting in the office is very important to me as an office freshman. I can learn the qualities of a qualified team member, such as independent problem-solving skills and proactive attitudes. The other one is to learn the professional skills, like different marketing models, what I need know about a product as a salesperson, how to find and approach potential clients, etc.
As for my personal hobbies, I like football (Barça is my favorite team), handcrafting, and playing puzzle games. Among the puzzle games, I am best at the 3X3X3 Rubik’s Cube which I can solve in 20 seconds, so, if you want to know anything about Rubik´s Cubes, I would be honored to share my understanding, if you agree I am good and would like know something from me, with you! But, if your question of interest is about the secret of solving it quickly, I guess all the players would say “practice makes perfect”. :-)

When will #AI outperform #humans?
The experts predict that AI will outperform humans in the next 10 years in tasks such as translating languages (by 2024), writing high school essays (by 2026), and driving trucks (by 2027).
But many other tasks will take much longer for machines to master. AI won’t be better than humans at working in retail until 2031, able to write a bestselling book until 2049, or capable of working as a surgeon until 2053.

the future is #ai #artificial intelligence #elonmusk
He’s spoken about the potential of brain interfaces, including a “neural lace,” before, but at the launch of Tesla in UAE during the World Government Summit in Dubai on Monday, Musk articulated more clearly why we might seek to deep our ties to our computing devices in the near future.
The need for this, he said on Monday in Dubai, could “achieve a symbiosis between human and machine intelligence, and maybe solves the control problem and the usefulness problem,” reports CNBC.

Any doubt? #bots are more like #human than you might expect! :)
Computer bots are more like humans than you might think, having fights lasting years
Tumblr media
Researchers say ‘benevolent bots’, otherwise known as software robots, that are designed to improve articles on Wikipedia sometimes have online 'fights’ over content that can continue for years. Editing bots on Wikipedia undo vandalism, enforce bans, check spelling, create links and import content automatically, whereas other bots (which are non-editing) can mine data, identify data or identify copyright infringements. The team analysed how much they disrupted Wikipedia, observing how they interacted on 13 different language editions over ten years (from 2001 to 2010). They found that bots interacted with one another, whether or not this was by design, and it led to unpredictable consequences. The research paper, published in PLOS ONE, concludes that bots are more like humans than you might expect. Bots appear to behave differently in culturally distinct online environments. The paper says the findings are a warning to those using artificial intelligence for building autonomous vehicles, cyber security systems or for managing social media. It suggests that scientists may have to devote more attention to bots’ diverse social life and their different cultures.

How Computer Vision Is Finally Taking Off, After 50 Years
Latest Nat & Friends is a wider primer on the subject of Computer Vision, some history, where it is now and aims in the future:
youtube
Computer vision is fascinating to me because a) it sounds intriguing and b) it’s a part of so many different things we use today (augmented reality, image search, Google Photos, cameras, those yellow first down lines we see watching football on TV, self-driving cars, selfie lenses, and more.) In this video, I talk with several researchers at Google to get an overview of the field today, its history, as well as its future.
