slughorn's potion class. might've been nicer if you didn't share it with harry potter.

the boy who lived had always been so irritating to you. you could've been friends when you met in second year, but because of his impression of slytherins from the previous year, he never even bothered giving you a chance.

now here you were, four years later and nothing's changed.

as mentioned before, you were in slughorn's potion class. today, he was teaching all of you about amortentia.

"amortentia is a love potion," he explained. "but it's not a traditional love potion. its scent takes that of whom you love the most, or who you're meant for. that makes it the most powerful love potion, as it infatuates you with the scent of that person, making them all the more desirable. now, who would like to step up and demonstrate?" most kids took a step back but he called on you so it didn't really matter.

"harry, and, um.. [name]. would you come tell us what you smell, please?"

you resisted a groan and stepped up, glaring at harry all the while. he looked at you with the same sarcastic look in his eyes.

stepping up to the cauldron, you slightly bent down, inhaling the scent of the potion. you smelt broom polish and a sort of apple cinnamon but there was also a slight scent of sweat. you scrunched your nose in discomfort. harry leaned down toward the cauldron as well, bonking your head with his own in the process.

"hey, do you mind?" you complained in a hushed tone. "and by the way, maybe you should play quidditch less. that sweat smell isn't cute." you mockingly shook your head.

"yeah? well, what's with all the hair products? and mint plus strawberries? that's not a very good combination." he rebutted. "and for your information, i haven't played quidditch today. in fact, i took a shower this morning. so, ha." he raised his eyebrows and stretched his neck toward you.

your eyebrows furrowed in confusion. "hair products and mint? there's nothing in my hair right now and i haven't been around draco a lot recently so i don't know where the mint is coming from. and regarding strawberries, i'm not wearing strawberry scent anywhere." your head naturally cocked to the side. the entire classroom fell silent.

when harry realized, his eyes widened and he immediately retreated to the rest of the class. you scratched your head confusedly, also walking back to your side of the classroom.

after class, you walked into the courtyard and sat, reading a book. harry ran after you, his two best friends following close behind.

when he approached you, you rolled your eyes. "what, potter?"

"what did you smell in the amortentia?" he urged.

"why does it matter?"

"just answer!"

you sighed. "ugh, i don't know, broom polish and apple cinnamon. oh, and sweat." you told him, focusing on the book in front of you again. he snatched it out of your hands. "hey, what gives?!" you stood up and reached for it but he held it above his head. unable to grab it, you pouted and crossed your arms. "okay, fine, what do you want?" ron and hermione awkwardly made eye contact behind harry. you raised an eyebrow in suspicion.

"you love me."

"huh?" you shook your head in a double take.

"you love me, don't you?" he asked again.

"why would you think that?" you said, further confused.

"your amortentia scent. it smells like me, right? so you love me."

you shook your head, but this time, in denial. "no, no, no, that can't be right. we've always hated each other."

he brought the book down and smirked. "i guess i'm just that irresistible, aren't i?" hermione rolled her eyes and ron patted harry's shoulder supportively, boosting his confidence even more.

"don't get confident, potter, you smelt strawberries, didn't you? and mint?" it was your turn to smirk. you snatched your book back and his face flushed red, his confidence shattered. he grumbled something and stuck his hand out, still bright pink. "can we be friends?" he muttered, embarrassedly trying to change the subject.

you shrugged, trying to hide your smile. "i guess." you shook his hand and then ron and hermione's. after an short awkward silence, they left you to yourself, whispering things to each other.

you sat back down and continued reading your book, a wide grin plastered on your face.

okay so you had been friends with the trio anyway

assisted them in their adventures too

your crush on ron had grown immensely in fourth year even with all the yule ball drama

he actually came to find you when you ran away because your date kissed another girl right in front of you

he's so sweet aw

when fifth year came, your admiration did n o t shrink

umbridge came in and with your attitude, you got more detentions than you could count

ron would often snatch your hand when you tried to hide it

he was extremely gentle and made you feel better

you wanted to kiss him tbh i would too

but you managed to resist

one of the only good things about fifth year was the d.a.

harry was honestly the best defence against the dark arts professor you'd ever had but that's besides the point

(okay this is where the headcanon actually starts)

so it's a dumbledore's army meeting like any other right

it starts simple

warming up, you know, training the easy spells

you demonstrated stupefy against ron

he was super confident and was like "i'll go easy on you dw"

your cast ended up blasting ron back aggressively before he could try anything

but it kinda turned him on so it's alright

your sudden strength was admirable but he didn't understand why

after the easy stuff, harry decided to jump into something completely new

the patronus charm

you tried to help harry teach to the best of your ability but it was difficult since you didn't know how to cast it yourself

hermione tried explaining it simply but it was lowkey condescending

"[name], you just need to think of a strong happy memory and then say the incantation"

"'mione, i hardly think it's that easy"

ron tried to help you with wand movement

but it was really just an excuse to hold your hand (even if he didn't understand why he had that desire)

he casted it with less trouble than you

"what did you think of?"

he couldn't answer

just hopelessly stammer

"i- i.. uh..."

because he was honestly thinking of a memory you two shared

okay harry and hermione were there too but he was focused on you

you had suspicions but let it go

you sat on the sidelines watching everyone else spawn their patronuses

you had honestly given up

ron didn't like this

he held his hand out

"let me help you"

harry and hermione were lowkey goin crazy in the corner

like "omg he's getting his girl bro look" but anyway

you took his hand and stood up and he smiled

his smile omg

when you grabbed your wand, he rested his hand on yours again

"just think of something that makes you happy."

*nod*

he waved his hand, guiding yours and signaling you to speak the incantation

nervously, you managed

"expecto patronum."

you turned your head around, ready to sit back down in disappointment

but ron gently pushed your face back to look at what you just did

you noticed the wisp coming out the end of your wand

you gasped

ron chuckled

not because it was funny

but because he was proud

looking at your face, he realized

you were the one he wanted

the bright smile rested on your features was all needed to acknowledge

he fell for you

still smiling, he asked, "what was your memory?"

you thought about your answer

because you weren't sure how to tell him you thought about him

about when, in second year, he stood up for you when some slytherins were attacking you (i'm so sorry if you're a slytherin lol)

about almost all of third year when he had constantly been there for you when times were getting tough for you especially

you had the scars to prove it

about how you were the only one he'd willingly share his food with

about all the common room and classroom exchanges ever between you two

about his superior hugs

about... him.

"[name]? what was your happy memory?"

without thinking, you told him: "you."

he seemed taken aback

but then he pulled you into a tight hug, rocking side to side

you wrapped your arms around him immediately too

suddenly you got so much confidence

"ron?"

"hmm?"

"i love you."

he stopped rocking and froze

he let go, backing up

you looked down shamefully

"i'm sorry, i shouldn't have said anything, i just-"

but then he took his index finger and thumb and raised your chin

looking in your eyes for at least five seconds,

he kissed you

and this man was a good kisser i-

you kissed back after realizing what the hell was going on, wrapping your arms around his neck

pulling away, he gazed into your eyes, still.

"i love you too."

you could hear harry clapping and hermione trying to squeal as calmly as possible in the background

needless to say, you were very distracted for the rest of that meeting

alright but let's discuss the dumbing down of book to movie ron from the perspective of someone who has only seen the films (a.k.a. the last person qualified to talk about this)

okay, so as i said, i haven't read the books so my opinion isn't valid, like, at all, but hear me out.

while i haven't read the books, i've seen and read multiple examples of book ron (as in little excerpts or dialogue of his) as well as other people sharing their thoughts on book>movie him here on tumblr, on wattpad, just about anywhere. so i feel like i know the minimum, just enough to have an opinion on and talk about this.

okay, so first of all, let me share as far as i know. movie ron is the comedic relief, the one who isn't as smart and is kinda there to diffuse the tension in serious situations. book ron (, in my understanding,) is much more helpful, he's smarter, etc.

don't get me wrong, movie ron is still super sweet and comes through plenty of times, a few examples being:

- sacrificing himself on the giant chessboard because he thought harry and hermione were more important and he knew exactly what needed to happen for them to progress, knowing fullwell the consequences

- risking getting in trouble with his parents and even the ministry but saving harry from the dursleys anyway

- shoving his fear of spiders aside to assist harry and stand by him

- trying to protect harry, telling sirius that he'll "have to go through him first" and to "leave him alone", even with an injured leg

and that's just a few. but that's besides the point.

as good as those all were, and even if it is the only ron i actually know, i still know my favorite redhead was not done justice. there were plenty of iconic lines he had that weren't put in, even though they could've been, and they gave a lot of his moments to other people, like hermione. but despite this, i actually prefer movie ron over book ron. i know that seems obvious since i haven't read the books to appreciate the original ron, but i think even if i read them, i wouldn't find the films that bad. yes, i'm probably biased but i don't think it would make much difference.

however, if you believe differently, don't be shy. sPiT iT oUt.

foreshadowing done well makes me go feral like there’s NOTHING better than getting to the end a book or an important storyline moment and realising that the author laced information so intricately into their writing that weren’t noticeable upon first read but when you read back sections they’re light giant red flags like wow writing is amazing
