Ships where two characters challenge one another and hold each other accountable helping the other to become the best version of themself
and they are both so grateful and comforted having the other’s influence in their life because they feel secure knowing they have someone who understands them and has their back, but won’t hesitate to call them out…
that’s good stuff

"people love ignoring canon to a brainrotting degree until you ask them why they don't give any attention to female/poc characters then they start crying and sobbing about how canon doesn't give them anything to work with" - gemsandjunk

People don’t understand the concept of liking two characters’ relationship in multiple contexts. They can be lovers in one setting and just friends in another, their dynamic doesn’t have to be consistent in every piece of art I make.

I won't deny that Mel was manipulating Jayce at first. But it's clear that she was actually attracted to him and we see her start to develop deeper feelings for him over time. Whether or not you can call these feelings love is up to interpretation I guess but the point still stands that she saw Jayce as more than a some tool for power and influence
Also "using her sexuality as a way of keeping Jayce under her thumb"??? Look, I'm not black so I guess it's not my place to say anything, and I'm not saying you are intentionally trying to be racist here. But it feels very icky to say that about a black woman. Might as well be calling her a jezebel lol
Not to mention that Mel doesn't need to use her sexuality as a means of manipulation. Her pretty face certainly helps a bit but it's her silver tongue that's her main weapon. Her greatest strength is her sharp mind! Not her looks! She's a fox not a vixen.
Meljay isn’t boring. Most people are just unwilling to discuss or engage with them in a meaningful way because of their own biases + inability to think of ship dynamics beyond their cookie cutter tropes

This is my lifestyle brand. From King Grimalkum and Pussyanita or, the Cats’ Arabian Nights by Abby Morton Diaz, 1881. The accompanying text reads, “The grandma woman used to hold me, and speak softly to me, and if I jumped on her shoulder she never pushed me off and said ‘scat!’. If I jumped up there when she was eating breakfast she let me stay, and let me taste of her breakfast.” 🥰
