Fanfic writing is 50% actually writing and 50% staring at the screen whispering ‘how do words work again’?
10% googling “synonyms for said”
15% contemplating your life choices
20% changing one sentence 37 times and then changing it back
25% “research” (aka wikipedia rabbit hole until 4am)

tropes that will always f*ck me up
composed characters losing their composure
kind characters snapping
characters hugging each other after one or both of them have been through hell
character cradling their significant other’s face while they kiss
character says something hurtful. later on in the movie they are in a similar situation and say something kind instead.
self sacrifice
griefstricken women (who under normal circumstances wouldn’t hurt a fly) lashing out and striking the person responsible for the loss of their loved one
ugly crying
characters struggling to talk because they’re about to cry
characters reuniting with someone whom they thought were dead
FOREHEAD KISSES

When I find my inspiration, I love writing.
When I hit my writers block, I hate everything about it.

Not gonna lie, at this point I'm so invested in Eddie Diaz that I would gladly watch 40 minutes of just him and Christopher going about their daily lives. Buck would be the single best friend and co-worker that comes over uninvited all the time and who's crushing on an oblivious Eddie. Hen, Karen, Chimney, Maddie, Bobby, Athena and Ravi would be his other co-workers who show up every couple of episodes when we see Eddie at his workplace. They'd all be there and they'd still be the firefam we love and cherish, but the main focus would be on Eddie navigating life and love, deconstructing his character (and his trauma) down to the very atoms that make him who he is, only to put him back together stronger and more resilient as a man, a father, a friend and in the end 'a lover' as he finally realises and recognises his own worth and opens up to Buck, revealing his deepseated love and devotion for his friend that leads them into the new and happy bright future they both so thoroughly deserve.
That is the level of my attachment and love for Eddie Diaz. I won't apologise for that.

When you've been a writer for long enough, commas become more of a spiritual practice than a grammatical one.
Could I explain the actual rules of how they’re used? Absolutely not.
Do I rely on sensing a tremor in the force to tell me where to use them? Yes and this has never failed me even once.

"why did you stop writing your story!!! never stop writing!!!!!!!!!!!" well you see the character had to drive one mile to a new location and the sentence "she got into the car" was quite simply my undoing

Fortune, that favours fools [in love]
Word count - 2.2k
Relationship - Eddie/Buck
Rating - General
Eddie looks at him incredulously, "You are going to take advice...from a cookie?"
Buck shoves him lightly, "Stop being such a Negative Nancy."
Eddie rolls his eyes. Of course he was going to indulge Buck and read his fortune.
Buck is convinced that his fortune cookies are predicting his future. Eddie, ever the skeptic of course, is not. But why is he getting the exact same fortune over and over again? It has to be a coincidence right? Right?
She is done. I've tagged a few of you who were interested in this work below the cut, if you want me to remove your name let me know. Additionally, if you want me to tag you when I upload fics, video edits or graphics let me know.

Snippet Sunday
Eeyah, well this fic is nearly finished but its what I've been working on today. Thanks to @sofa-king-lame for the tag 😄
No pressure tagging....for all of you. You know who you are. 🤨
Without further ado Buddie Fortune Cookie
"Are you alright Eddie?" Chim asks carefully. Eddie ignores Chim for the moment, "Four times! I've gotten the same fortune, four times now. This is a super elaborate prank Buck." "I don't even know what fortune you've been getting. You won't tell me so how am I supposed to be pranking you?"

Snippet Saturday
Tagged by the awe-inspiring (I need more complimentary adjectives for this woman coz I'm gonna end up showing my age and being lame and saying things like gnarly and grouse soon 🤣) @sofa-king-lame
Apparently I just needed to take the proper dose of my ADHD meds and suddenly....there are words! Have some Fortune Cookie Buddie for my Snippet Saturday...
"I mean, it's weird right? Two fortunes have come true for me now," Buck is gesticulating wildly trying to prove a point to Eddie. "Buck, fortune cookie fortunes are vague sayings so that you can apply them to most situations," Eddie says tiredly as they make their way to the locker-room, "I mean, your first one was 'Expect the unexpected.' Not exactly, here are the winning lotto numbers." "The power blew immediately after I read out my fortune," Buck deadpanned as he opened his locker. "Coincidence," came Eddie's response.
Tagging any and all (let me know if you are happy for me to tag you coz I'm always unsure about annoying people with tags - the perception caused by RSD is real loves.)

"Why can't the freaks on AO3 just go and make a site for all the gross stuff and leave AO3 alone."
Because AO3 is that site. Because AO3 was that site long before you decided AO3 was better than the sites you bullied us off of before, and I can promise you if someone somehow comes up with a fanfic site you like better specifically for the 'gross stuff' you'll try to bully us off that too so you can benefit from it.
AO3's specific core purpose is to preserve fanfiction, yes, but it was also instigated as a host site for the fanfiction that kept getting yeeted off other platforms like Wattpad. Its designed to preserve all fanfiction, not just the fanfiction you, personally, think is 'allowed' to be written.
AO3 is the site for all the gross stuff the freaks make. We've been there just as long as you. We've been funding it just as long as you have. AO3 has specifically said you have a place here. The timeline was literally:
Wattpad/FF.net/LiveJournal purge fanfics > AO3 is born > The people who's fics got purged moved over to AO3 > AO3 gains popularity as the best functioning site > The people who pushed for the fics to be purged off Wattpad move to AO3 > The same people try to push for AO3 to purge fics.
AO3's source coding is open-access. You go make a polished, strict, rigid site where nothing 'icky' is allowed. You go make a site where you can control what is hosted. We already have our space.

Apparently a lot of people get dialogue punctuation wrong despite having an otherwise solid grasp of grammar, possibly because they’re used to writing essays rather than prose. I don’t wanna be the asshole who complains about writing errors and then doesn’t offer to help, so here are the basics summarized as simply as I could manage on my phone (“dialogue tag” just refers to phrases like “he said,” “she whispered,” “they asked”):
“For most dialogue, use a comma after the sentence and don’t capitalize the next word after the quotation mark,” she said.
“But what if you’re using a question mark rather than a period?” they asked.
“When using a dialogue tag, you never capitalize the word after the quotation mark unless it’s a proper noun!” she snapped.
“When breaking up a single sentence with a dialogue tag,” she said, “use commas.”
“This is a single sentence,” she said. “Now, this is a second stand-alone sentence, so there’s no comma after ‘she said.’”
“There’s no dialogue tag after this sentence, so end it with a period rather than a comma.” She frowned, suddenly concerned that the entire post was as unasked for as it was sanctimonious.
