ANNOUNCEMENT!

Hi Tumblr!! I was originally going to make a drawing to go along with this announcement, but I've been way busier than I wanted to be, so I'll just type it:

I'm on Art Fight this year! I'm on Team Fossils but I do friendly fire! I mostly want to attack mutuals this year however I'll also attempt to do some revenges. I don't really do revenge chains bc I prefer to attack a variety of people once rather than a few people many times.

What is your favorite book cover and why

Wait that's kind of a hard one-- I like all of the covers but I've never really thought about favourites.

Off the top of my head, it's a four-way tie between Dark Secret, Dragonet Prophecy (Limited Edition specifically), Dangerous Gift and Brightest Night. Now I'm noticing I really have a pattern in the covers I like the most (the ones I listed are all night scenes lol).

For ranking those four, I'd go Dangerous Gift, Dragonet Prophecy Limited Edition, Dark Secret, Brightest Night.

All of these ones are my favourites just because I think they look the best-- like the palette on TDG is so beautiful. Joy Ang ate fr. Dragonet Prophecy does some really nice stuff with the lighting, especially on Clay's head, which I appreciate a lot. He looks great on that cover (esp compared to the original -- I think you can see how much more practice Joy has had with drawing the dragons since WoF started which is very cool).

I like Dark Secret because the contrast between the red foreground and blue background just really works. Idk. And Starflight looks cool too, although he's very OOC (I don't think he's the kind of guy to dramatically rear up over lava and roar at the sky) but you can say that about all of the arc 1 covers. Except book 2, I think Tsunami's very in-character there.

Aaaand Brightest Night is my fourth place because the black and yellow feels weirdly nostalgic. Makes me think of lying on a path at night reading a DK Kids book about dolphins. Lol. It's cool for that.

I can pretty easily say my least favourite cover is Darkness of Dragons, and then Flames of Hope is second. For those two I just don't like the colour schemes; they're not harmonious enough and it looks weird to me. If we're counting graphic novels my least fave is Moon Rising's GN version. Why does she look like that?? She's like a sauropod.

JACKAL! ☀️

The second OC in my little AU world! Jackal is a young SandWing from the northeastern Sand Kingdom. He lives in a rocky region, sort of like the Wild West. He helps on his parents’ cattle ranch and herds cows! Which makes him technically a cowboy! >:D

He goes to JMSC, as does everyone in this story. At some point I’ll make a proper post about JMSC but not right now 😔

Anyway he has a red colouration because I think it’s neat and it looks kind of distinctive!! It’s sort of supposed to be for camouflage agains red sand/rocks but you could also say it’s from ancestral SkyWing hybridisation since he lives near the border. However his parents, grandparents, and so on are all pure SandWings. So he’s not really a hybrid.

I hope you people like him as much as I do! He is very cool imo :3

Wow ok hi thanks for 40 followers 😭 you guys have quadrupled my follower count in the last week

Anyway! Here is a WIP of the Jackal drawing! This one will of course take longer than Dawnwalker did because I've decided to actually line it, but that comes with the downside of being subject to my awful motivation. Lining is probably the most boring part of the process for me and it's where I'm the most likely to give up on a piece lol. Hopefully, posting it will give me incentive to finish this. We will see.

Speaking of posting, I'm currently thinking about posting schedules and frequency. I'll most likely aim for twice per week. Idk though bc this is very new ground for me.

Forgor about this when I posted Dawnwalker, BUT these characters will at some point be on Art Fight and are already on Toyhouse! I'm Aposterous on both of those websites. Check em out or something :D
