Dear Men,
What are you doing?
Why are you acting
Like your dick is in your brain?
Don’t stare at me like that
And compliment my leggings when
You want what’s underneath.
If you want to touch these curves,
Don’t treat my body
like a supple piece of meat.
My body is a temple,
So treat me like a goddess.
Don’t act like a dog in heat
And whistle at me
While I saunter down the street.
We are not animals,
We are humans, so act like one.
Yellow eyes don’t make you a man,
Unless you’re a werewolf.
Don’t ask me out
And expect a ‘hell yes’
Right off the bat.
You are not God’s gift to women,
You never were
So get your head out of the clouds
And join the rest of us down here.
Oh, I’m sorry,
Did I just hurt your ego by saying no?
If you get mad, don’t expect me not to get angry too.
If you keep insulting me like that,
I’ll just have to assault you.
I have something in my bag here
That’ll stop you in your tracks,
So stop following me
Unless you want to lose the right to see.
Leave me alone, creep.
You are not my Prince Charming,
You’re just coyote ugly.
Sincerely,
That girl you wanted to
Make scream your name
But instead made you scream
In pain.

Prayers in a Plum Tree
In the backyard of my youth,
There stood a plum tree,
I practiced my prayers
As sunlight bore through
And stained the ground with shadow.
I thought to myself
As the wind blew,
What would the view
Be like from up there?
I stood in front of it,
Prayer sheet in hand.
I took a step in the bark stirrup,
And climbed right up.
Red leaves fell from the tree,
But I didn’t care.
I felt protected and safe.
Light pooled down on me,
Making my face look rosy.
I could see the whole neighborhood
From up here.
I wondered what the other houses
Around me prayed for.
Then I looked up at the baby blue sky
And saw the angels singing.
In that moment,
I felt closer to God and heaven above.
It felt as if nothing could get to me
And with this feeling in my heart,
I continued practicing
My prayers in that plum tree,
Happier than before.

San Francisco
Climbing rolling blacktopped hills,
Weaving through busy shops,
We drank down giggles,
While ships sat in the harbor,
Floating on cool water,
Gold surrounded us,
Fortunes were untold,
Flags waved with manic glee,
And a smile hung on faces,
Until we grew tired,
Near the king of chocolate.

Smokey Picture Technicolor
Everywhere I go, you seem to appear.
You’re covered in smoke as the mirrored hall appears in technicolor.
The rest of the room looks like a black and white photograph.
Wherever you go, I will follow.
But then a prick to my finger.
The pain swells as my heart breaks.
Back to 2, formerly 1.
Never a sad song.
Disappear like Houdini.
Doing one last magic trick.

His Eyes
I met a boy once who had dark brown eyes that turned into the color of auburn honey when he stood in the sun.
He had a smile that pierced my soul.
It was bright, white and breathtaking.
It was like the heavens above blessed his teeth with starlight.
How could God bless someone with so much beauty?
He was perfect and shy.
I wanted to get closer.
I wanted to run my hand through his brunette curls and have him soothe me with his voice.
His deep, rich voice that sliced through your body like butter and left you shuddering for more.
The fantasy comes to a halt though.
When I found out that another girl was doing what I wanted.
She was running her hand through his curls and was being watched by his glimmering, honey eyes.
I was jealous, but life took me on another path.
Now I search in every boy I meet for a glimpse of his beauty.
His tall stature, his mesmerizing stare, and his eyes.
His dazzling auburn honey eyes.
I don't think I’ll ever find that diamond boy again and I will always remain jealous of girls with gorgeous boyfriends.

Modesto
If I told you where I was from, you would ask me, “where?”
It’s tucked around the 99.
No one really visits here except if they’re stopping for gas.
It was built on an old west town.
The Gold Rush brought people here and gambling was the sinner’s choice.
It was terrible from the beginning.
The bus depot is menacing and the streets downtown are confusing.
McHenry runs through the whole town and it shows what we have here.
It’s still pretty country, but it’s also suburban and a small-ass city.
Some days you’re driving by small farms, other days a homeless person is showing you their buttcrack.
Even though this place has its problems, it was where I started my first job at Smart & Final as a service clerk, it was where I went to school at Freedom Elementary and James C. Enochs High School, and it was where I discovered my love for writing in my mother’s bathroom one Thursday morning.
So if you can, avoid Modesto, because I don’t plan on sharing my land of Meth, Death, and Auto Theft.

Balloon flying high in the sky
Out of a child's hand
Up to its motherland
If you see a balloon
Flying high
In the sky
Give a quick nod
And say
Goodbye

The Universe is Calling
Sunbeams are her freckles,
Dark storm clouds make,
Thunder in her eyes.
She is plated in gold,
Shaved from Cupid’s harp,
Dancing in broken porcelain moonlight.
Red dwarf blush,
Are the apples of her cheeks.
She ends the game,
Dealing with a new hand.
Once helpless and burned,
She rises like a phoenix.
King circles her head,
Like Saturn’s rings,
She lights a fire,
Using Apollo’s Bow.
Wearing blue sky robes,
Threaded by ants and spiders,
And sets it loose.
Sets ablaze to the thorns,
Chaining a broken door,
Leading to a garden.
A tree stood,
Holding Eden’s fruit,
Staining her lips violet,
As it’s swallowed whole.
True love is finally found,
Deep in the pit.

Swollen Eyes
I look through swollen eyes at the world and wonder when will my time come?
Am I waiting for nothing here as tears flow down my face or is something coming?
Will I be ready for it or will it pass me by and move on to someone else?
Does life want to keep me around or will I perish soon?
I don’t know what's out there for me and I’m wondering will it make itself known to me.
Waiting isn’t for everyone and patience is no longer a virtue.
I’m not sure what will happen to me but I’m not sure if it will be any good.
Someone help me find a way to look beyond what is known and what is true.
I just want to feel like a person again.

Solar System’s Ocean
The sun and the moon
Align with the planets
And the stars
To follow the tide
And rise with it.
Come oh brethren,
We shall stay with the
Solar system
And meet with
The land below.
Places unknown,
Far and wide,
Come meet the tide
And hold their mind.

Zenith’s Gravity
I wonder when astronomy talks about our zenith point, if it considers the Universe’s fingers connected to our spirit and how attached we are with the rhythm of the world. Our bodies move as one even if we look different. Our world is just an orb and we are only breathing. But we are all aligned with the hands of every god and goddess centering our gravity.
