#MOVE - portraits outtakes from #nokturnalsun a study in light, blur, movement in motion

New work featuring the directors of HBO Asian Pacific Visionaries Short Film Competition.

It's a challenge to shoot a group photo that captures the individual personality of each director yet shows the overall effort of the film series. The shots were done within a short period of time without composite photoshop. The setup consisted of all three sitting and leveling apple boxes to keep height uniform and arranging the lighting to slightly illuminate each person’s face with a bit of fill off.  This made rotating the director’s easy and added options so each one could be featured depending on marketing needs. At the end of the shoot the makeup artist told me the shot reminded her of the The Fugees album cover “The Score”   Perhaps I was working towards a subliminal homage to an iconic photo all along? I’ll take it.

PART 1 OF THE #NOKTURNALSUN SERIES

Motorcycle - Proof of Concept

Lighting a motorcycle was the first real test of using continuous lighting with a drone. This was a successful initial run of using lighting in difficult environments, allowing us to fly under bridges and over water for extended periods of time producing dramatic effects. We experimented with modular mounting, switching out strobes for continuous lighting with real time results and the ability to shoot stills and video within a short timeframe.

#NOKTURNALSUN  - WARRIORS 

Warriors – My first attempt at creating a narrative with drone lighting. The goal was to use the lighting to tell a story showing familiar products in an unfamiliar setting. While running at night is nothing new, it is usually confined to a lit track or traveling along a path with street lamps. I wanted to reshape that familiar activity allowing women to run their own path.
