It's so bittersweet that the reader and Link finally managed to fulfill that promise, even if it took another lifetime to do it. First really hits differently with the fact that he was doomed by narrative.
Spending years in imprisonment by the people he wanted to protect, the goddesses not doing crap to help, only to be released because they realized their "mistake" and kinda need him now, and dying in the end.
His love for the land and its people will always have me shambles because it was never fair. I love the idea that he created a connection with a person who's in a similar situation as him. And I appreciate the fact that he was given some sense of gratitude in the end because he really deserves it.
It's wonderful to see you again! And blessing with another piece of your writing. I hope everything will go well for you, take it easy!
One of my favorite things about LOZ is how it tackles the subject of cyclic reincarnation and how some things parallel and mirror each other even when not quite staying the same (a consistent temporal leitmotif if you will), I adore angst and tragedy but Link has gone through enough so I'll give him something good as a treat even if it took MANY years and timelines to get there lol.
First really does hit different which is why he's honestly one of my favorite Links to write for, this man was given absolutely no chance by the narrative, he tried so so hard to keep his people safe with the tools he was given, to be scorned by the people he loves and wants to protect the most, spending so many years deprived of his freedom, he loved them so so much and it didn't matter until he was actually proven right and needed, he had all the right to turn away from everything once he was free and yet he didn't, he still chose to fight for them and protect them and died for them and it really wasn't fair at all and it destroys me a little on the inside every time.
(Especially taking into account that the reason Hylia let it happen was all because it was part of her plan as a 'trial', man already had some indiference towards the divine and that probably didn't help which makes it even more impressive that he took up arms nonetheless.)
Hopefully when I actually expand on this I can fully bring that feeling to life and do it justice, I really feel like First deserves happiness and I'm really happy you liked it! He tried his hardest for Hyrule and honestly deserves all of the best for it! ^^
(Sorry if I'm all over the place I have zero sleep and no coffee-)
It's great to be back in the swing of things! And I'm always happy to write for this fandom and these guys who are so important to me, thank you so much for reading as always and for the well wishes! ^^

Hello, I'm a little embarrassed to ask, but who did you mean the Champion, the wolf and the wanderer???
Hey there! And no need, you're fine! ^^ It was an allusion to Breath of the Wild Link (or Wild, I like to leave which interation of Link is in the story mostly up for interpretation when I write these because there might be folks who aren't in the LU fandom or the like), the wolf would be Wolf Link from TP who you can get as a companion in BOTW and the wanderer would be the new iteration of Reader, they have their own thing going on in this new lifetime even if some things from their time with First stuck (i.e the manacle scars) which I'll probably expand on in a full thing once I can settle down to write it lol.
Thank you for reading! ^^

Something something brain is tired but I'm in a First mood so let's try snapping the writing mood itself into gear.
First, still held by the lord who imprisoned him, who hasn't seen the sun or the sky in goddesses knows how long.
First, the one who didn't even hold full faith in Hylia, who disdained the gods even for not doing much for humanity and even dragging them into their conflicts. Who still had visions of divinity and ruin, who tried to warn his people of a calamity soon to come and was imprisoned for it.
First, who is alone and isolated in the one cell block of the dungeon with the least amount of prisoners and so so tired of it all. But suddenly perks up because a new inmate is brought in, cursing and spitting and biting like a wounded wolf but who seems to have had similar visions as him.
First, who can hear them from between the cracks in the wall, and one day tentatively initiates contact, because they are a connection to the outside world, they are someone to talk to, someone who understands and brings some light back to his eyes through each and every single conversation and story and songs and curses towards the lord.
They never see each other, but he knows they're there. And the fact that they know and they believe and they treat him with some modicum of kindness and they want to go see the fields of Hyrule with him once they're both out one day and to thank him for always caring about Hyrule and it's people even if they forsake scorn and shun him.
First, who is one day released. The lord is dead, Orville has preserved his sword, he is a freed lion, given back his fangs-
And he catches a glimpse of the one person who was on his side through it all from within the other cell on the way out, smiling lightly at him before looking away.
And he refuses to leave them behind.
(They never do get to do it, to enjoy that one day under a clear hylian sky in their lifetime.
Though thousands upon thousands of years later, through the branching of the roots of time and chance and causality and maybe divine intervention or through the power held in promises unsaid and unfulfilled-
A Champion, a wolf and a wanderer with peculiar scars on their arms get to walk side by side under a clear hylian sky.)
Aka First is more akin to his manga self in terms of skepticism of the divine, so Hylia decides to just drop an isekaied Reader onto his situation and call it a day in a "That enough divine intervention for ya?" manner alongside both Fi and Crimson to sweeten the deal.
Anyway I'll be leaving now before I get tomatoes throw at me-

This is the friendly suggestion for LoZ and LU fans to go read the Twilight Princess manga to learn of the implications the Hero of Time/Time had an allegedly god slaying sword other than the Master Sword, was possibly sealed with it as the Hero's Shade, and was mistaken for a death god by the Hero of Twilight/Twilight once he pulled it out in a dare.

Honestly I don't know if I'm remembering it wrong due to sleep deprivation, but out of everything in TOTK one of my favorite little details is that Zelda's eyes in her Divine Noodle (affectionate) form when Demon King's flames hit or graze her tremble a little, more so around the pupils than the iris
The implications are absolutely delicious when you think about it, either it's an expression of deep seated, primal fear which she would probably feel as a dragon even if her main instinct is to help Link, it makes sense she'd feel distressed when faced with a bigger predator if we assume the dragons actually work like wild animals (I mean have we looked at Demon King's full size and length? He absolutely overshadows her and he's clearly going in for the kill, what with that initial bite, he's clearly not only gunning for Link and for Hyrule but also for her specifically), because Zelda by nature is not a warrior, she will fight for her people and to defend her people but she's not one to start the conflict, she's not one to HUNT, so when faced with something actively doing so it makes sense she'd be a little afraid, just because you are made to fight the divine threat from birth doesn't mean you can't fear death in the process('Courage is not the absence of fear but the will to rise against it even when you're afraid' and all that), immortality or not and trust me I'm getting to that part-
And arguably the more interesting implication: that dragons can feel pain/get hurt from other beings in a similar status, which also puts their immortality into question. Because that little twitch can also be because the flames actually hurt her.
One thing I always found interesting in TOTK is the dragon skeletons deep down in the Depths, they're parallel with the Leviathan skeletons, sure, but the fact that the dragons that we know can come and go from the depths and that there are actual skeletons there makes me look at them side by side and think "Oh those are dragons" rather than Leviathans, which begs the question: what could have killed them if dragons are immortal and can live for such long periods of time? What could have killed them when none of our weapons (including the Master Sword mind you) can't hurt Naydra, Dinraal, Farosh and Zelda in a way that matters?
I think the best answer in this case is given to us by Zelda's reaction (assuming I'm not wrong and didn't just imagine it due to sleep deprivation) to the Demon King's flames.
Maybe, just maybe, what caused them to die was likely another dragon. Which means that dragons can actually die, just not through age or natural means, but have to actively be killed through the right means/being for it to stick. Which also tracks with a lot of divine lore in LOZ in general, Demise/Ganondorf only being able to be brought low by the Master Sword wielded by someone who posseses the Hero's Spirit (or that has become worthy of it is we see in Wind Waker) because it's quite literally a divine blade, Hylia actively giving up her immortal form to become a mortal but still slumbering/existing in a separate realm outside of time can also be considered a form of divine death, not to mention Bellum being in the process of killing the Ocean King in Phantom Hourglass. Divine beings have always had an element of mortality to them in LOZ, and it's not too much of a stretch to think that pattern might hold true in TOTK.
(Personally I think maybe the dragons we know might have killed the others in a territory/route dispute, if we go with the fact that a person loses themselves when they consume a secret stone and is guided by their base instincts/whatever goal they had before becoming a dragon, I don't think territory disputes would be all that far fetched, or some other goal which would motivate possible aggression.)
Although there's also the other possibility to consider: we get the armor set of the wild on the heads of those skeletons in TOTK, and we know for a FACT there was a hero before BOTW/TOTK Link, not only through the Ancient Hero's Aspect (which I have so many thoughts/headcanons about) but also through the tapestry in BOTW no matter what the heck happened to the lore in between games, you can still work with the information that there was a hero before BOTW/TOTK Link, and possibly one even before that one if we assume the armor set in the depths isn't from the Original Calamity Hero.
What I'm pitching here basically is, Original Calamity Link/another possible Link was likely a dragon slayer (not uncommon among Links, but how many Links killed an actual possibly divine dragon?), and possibly the one to kill the dragons in the depths and that maybe, just maybe we should have a game one day or a manga which either clarifies or debunks that- wait I know it sounds insane but listen stop walking away-
(Also if it's indeed a sign that Zelda feels pain it honestly ramps up Wild's/TOTK Link's motivation to kill Ganondorf WAY up because I too would want to eviscerate anyone who hurt Zelda even if she can't outwardly show it.
Also also- divine flame scars on Zelda where the gloom fueled fire grazed/hit her in her dragon form, you wouldn't be able to see it normally, but once she turns back into hylian they're there as another showing of how her time as a dragon will always stick and haunt her.)

going from the hylink depictions in fandom and all the zelda games where link dedicates his life to saving and serving her to the skyward sword prequel manga is wild because you meet the first link, and he's just like. idgaf about hylia (the goddess). you gods are just as pathetic and powerless as we humans whom you supposedly reign above. why are you coming to me to fix your problems. why do we even keep you around. i don't want your stupid sword. the bird is cool, though.
#and then he dies and hylia is so enamoured by him she gives up her divinity just to figure out what his damage was <3#we never find out what he was imprisoned for but i like to think it's blasphemy that got extended to treason (since hylia's ruling family#is directly attached to the goddesses) & they let him out being like 'sorry for the blasphemy and treason allegations. we know better now'#and he's like 'oh yeah no the blasphemy was 100% real. the treason not so much but i am very much blasphemous'#and then he walks off to save the day#skyward sword prequel manga#first link#wkdhdks i love him very dearly. if i dont laugh i'll cry. i think if anyone deserves a ghibli adaptation it's him#his is the only loz story i've seen so far whose themes even remotely match up with ghibli's anyway imo#honestly agreed and he's so valid for that lol#poor guy is pulling double duty as the prophecy guy and the hero and he gets treated like this#only to likely later on learn that every bit of suffering he went through in jail because he had good intentions#with maybe a dash of blasphemy#was all PREORDAINED. Greek will of the gods if you will#Honestly if he wasn't already as done with the Divine Will™ before he definitely would be after meeting Hylia. He isn't doing this for her#he's doing this for his people even if most of them forsook him and that makes him such a fascinating character#Personal headcanon is that he accepted Hylia's help mostly for the bird deal and Fi. That's it#man treated her with zero reverence and all of the 'rare surviving hero from ancient myth' energy and Hylia was intrigued lol#totally not foreshadowing for something I'm writing *cough*
