"grossed out" =/= "triggered"
Some people seem to believe that feeling a deep sense of grossness or fear is the same thing as being "triggered." If this was the case, my gay ass would trigger every white christian in my entire town (I wish)
Here are some some examples of what being triggered is actually like:
- My friend's new boyfriend said she should lose some weight. This triggered her eating disorder, and after not eating for a period of time she was hospitalized.
- My friend's girlfriend told him to kill himself, so this triggered his depression, and he was hospitalized after an attempted overdose.
- My friend got yelled at by someone we know, and this triggered her to have a panic attack. She was crying hysterically for hours.
- My friend died last month and it triggered my psychosis, I was out of my body throwing things around my room. I woke up after three days with no memory.
This is NOT being triggered:
- I heard a joke or story about sex and it made me feel all gross and shameful inside. I wish I hadn't read it.
This is NOT being triggered because your reaction is not severe, and doesn't require intervention by a friend or doctor. You are being a whiny little bitch and you are making it harder for people who have real problems.
Thanks for reading my PSA

Why is A Wrinkle in Time by Madeline L'Engle so amazing?
Because is was published in 1962 and one of the characters is a female scientist with a PhD who supports her family as a single mother.
Because it is written in 1962 and has quotes like "stay angry little Meg" and very powerful female characters are empowering a young girl to express her anger with the world.
Because it was written in 1962 and women could not buy houses or get paid an equal wage (equal pay act is 1963) or get a credit card. When it was the decade women going to college final because the societal norm and even then they were bared from higher paying jobs and higher up positions in companies.
A Wrinkle in Time is a feminist novel, one off the first major YA Sci Fi novels centered around a female character that saves herself. It's just amazing, I love it, I could talk about it for hours.

I'm fascinated with what Madeleine L'Engle was trying to articulate in 1962.

A Wind In The Door becomes a much funnier book when you try to imagine what it's like from Mr. Jenkins' perspective. Like, imagine you're a (kinda shitty) school principal and one day you find you have two doppelgangers. One of your former students (one who has never liked or respected you, and who snuck into the school recently to tell you to get better at your job because her little brother is getting bullied) SOMEHOW correctly distinguishes you from the doppelgangers, the doppelgangers turn into fucked up crows made of hatred and nothingness, and fly off.
As if your day wasn't fucked up enough, you quickly find out that you have been assigned to the world's weirdest cosmic group project, it is not optional, and your partners are:
Aforementioned former student who thinks you are a shitty principal and a weak-willed, uncompassionate man (she is right)
Another former student who has a bad home life and not a lot of money, so you gave him some nice shoes once (you are a multifaceted person)
Indignant miscroscopic organism
Biblically accurate angel
You are a person fundamentally lacking in open-mindedness and whimsy, and you are going to have to attempt to fix this about yourself QUICKLY, because you're going to see a lot of weird shit in the next day or so and it will fully break your brain if you can't find a way to look beyond your miserable, mundane mentality.

“A Wind in the Door” is my longtime favorite of the Time series (and it shows). I doubt I’ll ever fully capture how I picture Progo, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out anyway.

🌟Introducing myself🌟
Tumblr media
Hi new friends! My name is Nova Pax. I am a nearly 30 non-binary bard, i.e. a witch and poet. I've been writing since I was a child, but only became a witch in 2016. I consider myself a Modern Traditional Witch (see Weave the Liminal by Laura Tempest Zakroff) and am devoted to both Persephone and Brigid. I enjoy doing divination and sigil magick as main parts of my practice, but am also exploring more devotional aspects to incorporate. As a poet, I often write about queerness, neurodivergence, grief, and spirituality. My work can be found in Ink&Nebula, Sonder Midwest, Tickets to Midnight, and The Gorgon's Guide to Magical Resistance.

I am diagnosed AuDHD and DID after being misdiagnosed for 17 years. My special interests are Pokémon (Pikachu is my forever Partner Mon), Marvel (Carol Danvers is my queen), pop punk (The Wonder Years for life), and Tangled. My autism and dissociative diagnoses are fairly recent, so I might blog about learning to live with them both.
