How do you decide on your community?

Public health is the science of protecting and improving the health of people and their communities. This work is achieved by promoting healthy lifestyles, researching disease and injury prevention, and detecting, preventing and responding to infectious diseases.

CFHI programs are for students of all levels of training from undergraduate to health profession trainees and medical residents. Students will have the opportunity to engage in ethical, sustainable global health programs, field experiences, and internships that are appropriate for their level of training and the needs of the host community.

CUGH Multimedia Reflections in Global Health Contest Winners announced!

CFHI worked alongside CUGH, the University of Pittsburgh Center for Global Health and Loyola University Chicago Health Sciences Division to offer an opportunity for trainees of all levels to submit an essay about their reflections in global health education and practice. CFHI is thrilled to partner with the school of Physical Therapy at Arcadia University to offer a custom 2-week program this upcoming spring in Bolivia. Through ethical engagement with patients and local experts, this course provides the opportunity for PT students to develop a deep understanding of the country's health realities and healthcare systems while exploring the strengths and nuances of the Physical Therapy profession in La Paz, Bolivia. The program includes guided visits to local clinics, interviews with local physical therapists, health-focused lectures delivered by local experts, and cultural activities designed for participants to refine their intercultural humility and communication skills when working with individuals from other cultures, backgrounds, and fields.

CFHI offers a virtual #internship which includes both synchronous and asynchronous work! This unique opportunity allows you to explore #global and #publichealth issues broadly, highlighting how health systems around the world deliver healthcare in a variety of diverse environments and exploring cultural interplays. 

Participants engage in approximately 8-12 hours per week of live Zoom sessions, including meetings with our Global Team, seminars, and interactive workshops to enhance fundamental knowledge and skills in Global Health. CFHI has been selected as a finalist for the 2022 GoAbroad Innovation Awards in the Innovative New Program - Study Abroad category. This nomination recognizes the CFHI Virtual Global Health Elective which was launched in 2021 in response to restrictions on international travel due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The Virtual Elective is a unique, innovative program that provides advanced clinical students with the opportunity to build Global Health competencies through seminars and roundtables featuring an expert global leadership faculty. Topics covered include low-resource and interdisciplinary clinical reasoning, global health ethics, planetary health, case study work, and much more. In addition, participants enjoy the truly global nature of the virtual space— students in the Virtual Elective have come from 20 different countries so far.

How do I get a job in public health?

For many jobs, a bachelor's degree will suffice, but others may require advanced degrees or education, including master's degrees.
