Hey guys, long time no post! I’ve been really busy trying to finish my senior project for school....so much so that I really haven’t had a lot of time to draw things for myself :( But!! Here’s something kind of experimental I did to unwind a little in my downtime! I’d like to add (full) color to this eventually, but knowing me there’s a very high chance that I won’t! So I’ll just post this now, I guess.

#rango #rango (2011)#they really baited audiences in the marketing lmao they were like 'look another funny animal movie for the kids'#and then once you were in the theater they were like 'surprise! we're actually showing you the best damn western you'll ever see'#11 year old me was just dazzled by the use of desert fauna that i as an animal nerd knew everything there was to know about #but when i came back to it as an adult i was blown AWAY by how much effort they put into this thing and how well it still holds up #legitimately. this movie has some of my favorite 3d animation I've ever seen. it's up there with spider-verse for me #the little details! the character design going as hard as it can on even minor background folks with no lines!?#every character in a given shot reacting separately to what's going on?????#THE WATER. THE FUCKING WATER EFFECTS. these were 2011 effects and they look REAL #THE REFLECTION OF THE WATER ON JAKE'S SCALES IN THE FINAL SHOWDOWN GETS ME EVERY TIME #THAT SHIT LOOKS REAL #and don't even get me STARTED on the soundtrack. holy shit. the credits theme alone kicks so much ass #i desperately want other people to get why i love this movie so much. please 🙏#i also desperately wish there was more of this universe out there besides just the movie and a tie-in game #like. this universe would be PERFECT for a show. my idea was for a baddie-of-the-week episodic format #or an episodic format that tells various stories that *supposedly* happened in the universe #keeping with the theme of legends and myths of the west from the movie #and that could expand on the characters we met in the movie but also provide new faces and give names and stories to background ones

u know what i just think about all the time. silver. but like specifically silver saving his future, everything is fine everything is ok! and he returns to his future and doesnt lose his memories or whatever happens at the end of 06!

only to realize that he’s lonely. and nothing ever goes wrong, it isn’t like one second the future is saved and the next a new disaster has struck. no he truly and fully saved his future but with blaze gone he doesnt really. have anyone. and he makes some kinda-friends but no one else has any crazy powers. no one else KNOWS that the future used to be on fire. and mostly he misses all the people from the past.

so after double, triple, quadruple checking (somehow idk) that his future will be fine if he goes back in time again, he goes back to “our” present. everyone is kinda nervous like why are you back? whats wrong? and hes like….i just missed u guys :( and then he is absorbed into the found family and lives there now

also i think a nice sort of trick to keeping missy feel in character even when you write stuff where you make her vulnerable and like admit to that vulnerability is to just mind her sadism. she enjoys seeing people hurt. probably especially people she loves. just because she loves you doesnt mean shes gonna try to make you comfortable. probably the opposite.

and dont just let her hurt people in retaliation/to equalise a power imbalance. because then you sort of keep her playing defence? but if you just let her hurt people shes hanging out with in little ways when theres absolutely no need to. just for her own enjoyment. i think that really helps to reset her to sort of baseline missy after youve vivisected her.

#this isnt like a writing tip bc i dont really knwo what im doing generally writing wise #this is just something i noticed yesterday that i'd been doing and i think it works well #i think this is why my vault fic 1.0 feels off #bc there shes either being vivisected or hurting in retaliation #but she never gets back to just like reset #anyway #i think it's probably canon that shes a sadist i could probably find something somewhere to back that up right?#im going more on vibes like the vibe is right #i also think shes meaner in the big finish audios #just for the sake of it #also as an identity performance but the just for the sake of it part is kinda crucial i think #if you ask me why i couldnt give you a good answer but still i think it is #also i just really enjoy writing missy be needlessly cruel to both 13 and yaz and how they respond to it #it's fun to push and pull at them and see how much they will take #and also the contrast with the things she does actually sorta honour #like theres a trust between the doctor and the master where they know very well which areas are like fair game to fight with i think #and theres also a difference in what theyre allowed to use against each other when theyre alone vs with an audience #they will keep each other's image intact when they fight i think #also i think the master can very well care for you and missy also definitely does #it's just that that care often comes with violence #like she'll console you with one hand whilehurting you with the other #or she'll hurt you badly just to take care of you afterwards #violent tenderness i think is really the foundation of this fic #none of this is right #but they cant get what they need in the right way #so they will get it in the very wrong way. and it's wrong. but it still feels somewhat satisfying #thasmissy #missy
