SEASON FINALE OF HAZBIN HOTEL and I am here for it. 10/10. A+. 5 stars. Loved it. Literally the only things I didn't like were by character design and that means I secretly liked them.

Obanai is probably the second most hated character in the fandom, and just like Sanemi, he’s one of the most misunderstood. I think the hate he gets from the fandom is unwarranted; he’s accused of being a dick, a horrible person, a simp and a character who only exists to be Mitsuri’s love interest. All of which is unfair, sure he’s prickly and unapproachable, but he’s not as bad as the fandom makes him out to be.

So, in my quest to draft a defense for our favorite snek boy, I reread his backstory and in doing so, I realized something sad

Unhinged theory

Obanai is a sexual abuse survivor

Let me explain:

Obanai’s backstory and aspects of his character mirrors that of someone who’s been through sexual trauma. The evidence I'm going to present is a combination of my own knowledge about these matters and information I got from forums and websites for male survivors of sexual abuse. So let's examine them...um spoilers

The snake demon

I believe that the snake demon is a metaphor for a sexual predator. Her inclusion in the family could also be a metaphor for how these predators insert themselves into family units-or most of the time are family members themselves-and abuse the children for years and even generations. Obanai's relatives sacrificing their babies to her could signify the real life actions of families who are unaware or, turn a blind eye to, or sometimes actively participate in the abuse of their children.

The sacrifice in exchange for wealth speaks of how families in real life ignore the abuse of their children to maintain the wealth and status they obtain from being related to and associated with the abuser.

Even her decision to wait, ordering the cutting of his mouth so he would look like her, could be interpreted as her 'grooming' him in a sense.

Even her design has a certain sexual, predatory aspect to it that's different from the other demons.

His relatives

Obanai describes his family members as being 'disgustingly' affectionate and bringing him lots of 'greasy' food that made him sick. Food in media is often used to depict love, affection, connection and sex, and Demon Slayer is no different.

There are plenty of instances where food and the giving of food has been used to denote friendship (Tanjiro giving Zenitsu, Inosuke and Genya meals in an attempt to bond with them), connection (Giyuu wanting to give Sanemi ohagi), love (Tanjiro's love of cooking and the satisfaction he shows when his meals are enjoyed by others) and pleasure (Mitsuri's large appetite). I'll make a post about this later.

With this context, we can interpret their bringing of rich foods, their overbearing attention and affections as them objectifying and even being sexually inappropriate with him.

The sexual abuse

Non-physical.

The first instance of abuse is non-physical, but that doesn't make it any less important. Being constantly visited by the snake demon in his room at night, Obanai described his feelings of terror, being paralyzed and watched. His body would break out in a sweat, and he would be unable to fall asleep.

His descriptions of the experience and his body's reaction to it reminded me of some survivors' stories I read, where they talked about how in the initial stages of the abuse or when the abuser was first introduced into their lives, their abuser would give them unwanted attention, would stare at them in a way that felt creepy, gross and wrong.

Some had their abusers come in to their rooms, maybe under the guise of 'checking in on them'. They described feeling terrified, freezing up with the hopes that the attacker would leave. Some would take measures such as sleeping with the door locked or with a heavy object against it, sleeping with a sibling or parent, sleeping in a hiding spot that the attacker knows nothing about or not sleeping at all.

Physical.

The specific age that the snake demon plans to 'eat' Obanai is never stated, but from what we've seen so far and in the sexual context, we can assume that she's waiting until he hits puberty. Some studies state that the average age of victims of female sex offenders usually falls around 14 years, but there are cases where the female predator waited until their victim reached sexual maturity before they carried out their abuse, like in the case of Mary Kay Letourneau. Here's a video that breaks down an interview she did before her death.

Obanai was 12 when he was dragged out of his cell to be subjected to what I believe is the first physical abuse. He had his mouth slit from ear to ear, with the blood collected and fed to her. The snake demon decided to have him live a little longer, which again, fits into my theory of her wanting to wait until he reached puberty.

Bodily violation, violence and blood are common allegories for sexual assault used in media and in Obanai's backstory we see it being used when his relatives drag him from his cell, literally pin him down, cut his mouth and feed his blood to the snake demon. The act of feeding on his blood could also be a metaphor for the snake demon sexually abusing him.

His escape and the resulting fallout

Obanai managed to escape, and although he was tracked down by the snake demon, he was saved by Shinjuro Kengoku before she could kill him. His cousin's response was to blame him for all that happened, asked why he ran away, and said that he should have 'allowed' the demon to eat him.

This could represent how some victims are rejected, ostracized and criticized for speaking out against their attacker, exposing the abuse to the public and getting help. Their families would say 'you should have just let it happen', 'you destroyed the family', 'why did you run away, tell people?' and place the blame on the victim.

Obanai's reaction

There are three aspects of his characterization that are similar to the common reactions noticed in adult survivors of sexual assault, especially male survivors.

His appearance.

His behavior.

His beliefs.

His appearance

Obanai has a small frame that he hides with his baggy uniform and haori. I can tell it's baggy compared to that of the other slayers because of the width of his pants vs the width of his lower legs. Desexualization or hypo-sexualization is a common response among some survivors of sexual trauma, this usually involves wearing clothes and taking measures to make themselves look 'unattractive'.

'But this side feels more comfortable for me, like the baggy clothes I wear, which hide my body, and the long sleeves which reach past my wrists. I promised myself no man would ever touch me again, and whether it was a moment of triumph, or a moment of defeat, I still don't know.'

'I'm thin, shy. I seem easy to dominate. I've grown a beard. That's helped a little. I dress in baggy clothes, covering as much of my skin as possible. That makes me feel safe.'

This not only helps regain a sense of control and power over their body but also serves as a protective measure against sexual advances so they don't get abused again.

In Obanai, given his history of receiving unwanted, suffocating and 'disgusting' attention from his female relatives, it would make sense that he would want to dress in a way that makes him unapproachable and hides his body from the opposite sex. We can see his attempts to desexualize himself in the picture below:

His behavior

'Iguro has difficulty with girls. Due to his experiences growing up, he was unable to conquer his fear and animosity. Plus, the firls who joined the Demon Slayer Corps often put on brave faces because of their sad backgrounds, so he felt sorry for them, making him uncomfortable in a different way.' - Taisho Whispers, official English translation.

'Iguro-san isn't good with women. Due to his upbringing he has a fear and disgust towards women. (I couldn't overcome it easily. The women who joined the Demon Slayer Corps have painful stories of determination. I felt sorry for them and I didn't get along with them in a way that was different from the way I got along with my family)' - Taisho Whispers, direct-sort-of-shitty translation via Google Translate.

Male survivors who were victims of childhood abuse by female perpetrators often talk about how the abuse greatly affected their relationships with women or lack thereof. Some going so far as to say that they became afraid of women, being around them and how sometimes being touched by women would trigger panic attacks and remind them of the trauma.

Here are some quotes posted in a thread on the Male Survivor forum. Full thread here.

'Once that happened, my genophobia became more intense. I couldn't ware short trousers in summer, could never go swimming, got paranoid if I touched a woman's arm or even brushed against one, would always stand at a distance from female friends, and would literally leave the room if anything explicit was discussed.'

'I have started to have strange, deep discomforting feelings as I remember some of the assaults and I have gotten to a place where touch from a woman makes my hair stand up, makes me nauseous, and gives me chills and feelings of dread.'

Obanai has similar responses when he finds himself in proximity to women. We're only told about it in the main manga, but it's shown in the Gakuen. I know the Gakuen takes place in an alternate universe, but aside from the events, the behaviors of the characters are based on their actual personalities in the main manga, so we can safely say the reactions he displays in the Gakuen is canon to his character.

His beliefs

Adult survivors of sexual abuse often struggle with feelings of guilt, rage, and shame. In the manga, Obanai talks about being held back by the decaying hands of his family members, which could represent the long-lasting effects of sexual abuse and how some survivors carry these burdens all through adulthood or throughout their lives.

There's also the thoughts about himself that echo the heartbreaking thoughts shared by some male survivors.

Guilt:

"As the member of a filthy family, I too was corrupt. My sins were deep, so I could not live a normal life"

Rage:

"With no other outlet, I turned all my rage on demons in a grudge of intense hatred. By risking my life for others, I felt as if I could in some way become a slightly better person."

Shame:

"Unless I die and come back in a different body in which this filthy blood does not flow, I have no right to be with you."

Suicidal ideation(mild):

"By risking my life for others, I felt as if I could in some way become a slightly better person."

"I want to die defeating Muzan." (He's the only character that I know of that outright says this.)

He also kind-of expresses his feelings of being weak during the fight with Muzan:

"I've accomplished less in this battle than anyone! I wish I could deliver a more effective attack."

While this quote isn't exactly definite, a feeling of being weak, or being 'less of a man' is also a common experience shared by male sexual assault survivors.

The scar and It's symbolism

The scar is a physical manifestation of the lifelong effect that sexual abuse has on its victims and the stigma it carries. For Obanai, it's not just a painful reminder of the trauma he suffered at the hands of his family, but also a reminder to him that he's like his attacker, the snake demon. The bandages he wraps around his mouth symbolizes not just his attempts to hide his trauma, but also his inability to talk about it due to shame and fear, which is unfortunately an all too common experience of male survivors.

Another struggle survivors often experience is with intimacy, romantic relationships and sex. For Obanai, I believe that this struggle is represented by his eating disorder. The link between food and sex is a well established belief in many cultures, people with large appetites can be seen as having equally high sex drives while people with small appetites have little or no sex drive.

As he grows older, his little appetite is basically him curbing his growing sexual desire, which he sees as ugly, like the scar on his mouth. But the thing is Obanai wants love, he wants to love and be loved, to be intimate with another person, but he feels he doesn't deserve it, after all he's filthy, shameful and probably a predator just like the snake demon. So he starves himself, suffering in silence with the belief that he was disgusting, that no one would ever love him, that he was destined to and deserved to be alone.

Then he met Mitsuri.

In Conclusion, Obanai is way more complex than the KnY fandom gives him credit for. This is a man that went through immense suffering, and it's really sad to see people hate on him because he isn't 'nice'.

Well, that's just how life is. Trauma doesn't exactly make nice people. We can't all be like Giyuu or Tanjiro(bestest boy ❤), a lot of us are like Obanai, Sanemi, and even Shinobu, a lot of us are angry, and why shouldn't we be?

Just thought of a funny scenario for Rotten Fruit:

This takes place sometime after Paramita has dealt with Xiangliu.

The family has begun to get used to a more peaceful routine (no more having to worry about sudden visits from the bastard snake).

Ziqi takes this as the perfect opportunity to introduce her family to her new boyfriend/potential mate. The entire family (especially Macaque) are excited for her and deep clean the entire house for tonight’s dinner.

With a knock at the door the family waits excitedly to meet Ziqi’s boyfriend, only to come face to face with an albino hog nosed snake demon (aka the drama queens of the serpent world).

Everyone (especially Wukong) explodes at the sight of him, even Grandma Yuze pops up to scare away the “danger”.

At the sight of the ghostly grandmother, the poor snake collapses to the floor, mouth agape, tongue sticking out, and tail twitching slightly before coming to a complete halt, causing everyone (but Ziqi) to panic.

Ziqi ends up spending the next few hours consoling her family.

Yuze: *ghostly wailing*

Ziqi (patting her grandmother’s ethereal hand as best she could): no grandma you and the family didn’t kill him, he’s just playing dead.

Yuze: *ghostly whispers*

Ziqi: Because you spooked him!!!! In his case he only had two options, either play dead for hours or puff himself up and pretend to be venomous to try and intimidate you!! And you and I both know the latter wouldn’t have gone over well 😒

(If you ask Ziqi directly why she chose a snake for her partner she’ll tell you without hesitation that his nose and pink scales remind her of her grandpa Pigsy (aka he feels safe to her))

The rest of the family is at a loss for how those three find snakes of all things attractive. (Cause irl monkeys don't like snakes. Chinese dragons are based on snakes so to monkey brains they are just big snek)

Since he's pink instead of orange, he's a pink pastel albino, something like this

He is a pink noodle boy, and best boy!

I'm imagining him as a himbo, a dramatic himbo but a himbo nonetheless, he is the sweetest boy! He's basically a golden retriever made snake demon.

Imma just call him Sweet boy now.

I'm thinking Bai He finds out about her little sister's boyfriend first because her girlfriend (a viper snake demon) saw the two of them on a date without being seen and told her about it.

Then Bai He told her big sister about it, cause this isn't exactly something to bring up to their parents if they want to keep pressure off their mèi mei.

Ziqi was THE baby of the family for a long time until Wei-Chen was born, and she's still their parents baby girl, Mac and Wukong might be a smidge overprotective with all the kids when it comes to romance, but especially with their baby girl.

It needs to be handled carefully, and who do you go to when you have something you can't tell your parents? A trusted older sibling!

Chao-Xing and Bai He take Ziqi out for the day, under the guise of helping Chao-Xing move some stuff out of her and Mei's apartment in the city.

She only lived there on weekdays when she was working, since the boss from hell (Snake Boi) is gone and Paramita is taking over the outward less troop oriented politics, she can move back home full time.

They don't go move stuff, they go to a little cafe to talk. The moment they veer off course Ziqi knows something is up, and she's on pins and needles the whole time while her big sisters are acting totally normal and it's driving her crazy.

The reveal is very blunt and tactless courtesy of Chao-Xing, she makes a joke about snakes having two dicks and Ziqi immediately knows they know.

They talk about all the things, how long have you been dating, is he good, do you like him, and when were you gonna tell anyone, it's not good to hide relationships.

Ziqi was hesitant to introduce her snake boyfriend cause she knows how most of her family feels about snakes, even outside instinctually distrusting them, the Snake Boi caused a lot of damage to their family, it took Bai He's girlfriend a long time to get everyone okay with her, Mei was a different story cause she's Lie's kid, but she doesn't want her family's reaction to scare Sweet boy off.

She really likes him and he's super sweet and silly and just makes her feel so happy and safe.

Bai He and Chao-Xing definitely tease her for how head over heels she is for this guy, but she's also their baby sister and they gotta check out he is legit and won't hurt their sister, she's had girlfriends and boyfriends in the past that didn't work out for one reason or another.

Good news! Sweet boy passes the big sis inspection, and can move on to the next step of meeting the family!

Ziqi gets a couple of talking tos from her big sisters about how to have relationships with snakes and snakes adjacent creatures. Chao-Xing likes snakes in general so she knows a lot about them and snake demons, they have a little fun teasing their baby sis about her boyfriend before anyone else can, the hognose twitch does not go unmentioned.

The sisters help prepare Sweet boy for meeting the family and help Ziqi tell their parents that she has a boyfriend and she wants to bring him over. They don't mention what exactly he's a snake demon, but they ask that everyone keep an open mind about it.

Qiuyue and Xiuying are chill in comparison to Macaque and Wukong, they vet any potential partners for their true intentions with their children, you can never be too careful as a LEM, but they aren't as protective as Macaque and Wukong can be.

MK thinks it's unfair that Chao-Xing met their little sister's boyfriend before he did, and is a bit pouty about it because he can keep a secret too dang it! >:(

He can't, he really can't, any of the parents can give him The Look™ and he's spilling everything.

The day comes for Sweet boy to meet the family, Macaque is especially keen on making sure the house is perfectly perfect for this, he falls into the toxic perfectionism habit easily for things like this. The fam gets him to stop before he goes to far overboard.

Sweet boy and Ziqi knock on the door and the family's snake based trauma hits them like a truck. Grandma Yuze senses her family freaking out and comes to scare the threat, and scares Sweet boy into playing dead.

In all their preparation, Ziqi, Chao-Xing and Bai He forgot about the playing dead thing. It's funny in hindsight, in the moment they have to calm the family down from thinking their trauma response killed someone, and coming up with ways to hide the body (Paramita).

After Sweet boy stops playing dead, he gets along pretty well with the family, there's a bit of confusion on his part about the complicated family relationships.

He definitely needs that chart with him at all times, there's 16 kids between 4 parents and they aren't all related to the same parents, and he's a himbo, and a hognose snake, and probably autistic.

It's common for snake demon clutches to have multiple sires, just a snakey thing, so the amount of half siblings makes sense to him.

He is pretty well liked by the family despite all the odds, he's sweet, kind, gentle and very strong, strength in partners is especially important for LEMs because of how dangerous it is to exist as them, luckily Ziqi only has one set of ears so she gets the least attention.

Even Yuebei likes him and she's a notoriously harsh critic for her siblings love interests. Nobody who will break their family is allowed to date.

He hits it off really well with Wei-Chen too, so he gets extra brownie points for being so good to their youngest member. Wei-Chen demands his sister marry Sweet boy as soon as he leaves because he wants him to visit more.

Sweet boy's harshest critic, aside from Macaque and Wukong, is Paramita, Ziqi is his twin sister, even if the two of them have never been quite as close as their other twin siblings just due to personality differences. They're night and day and they know it, but still, Paramita feels like it's his responsibility to make sure his twin gets the best partner in the world.

It might cause a bit of conflict between the pair, but otherwise things are good.

Except for the few times when the kids are having sleep overs in each other's room talking about their respective partners, and since the older kids are in their mid to late 20s or even 30, quite a few teasing questions are asked.

Made a mistake, think the older kids like Chao-Xing and MK would be closer to 40, but developmentally they are still in their twenties, demons hit a stopping point once they mature where aging physically and mentally slows down drastically.

Macaque nearly has a heart attack the first time he hears his oldest cubs talking about making things official with their partners, he's not ready for that, they're still his babies.

Wukong happens to be passing by when the noodle daters are wondering if they would have an egg or a live birth with their respective partners. He tears down the door to see if it's hypothetical or not. Chao-Xing absolutely takes the opportunity to fuck with him, at her core she's a little shit.

Pigsy actually cries when he finds out why Ziqi likes this guy so much.

I'm thinking of moving the order of things around, where the brotherhood gang returns for Wukong after Xiangliu is dealt, with them trying to drag Wukong back into the life of crime he left long behind when he had a lot more at risk than any other time, he's got a loving family full of kids, a mate who's finally starting to get past his major trauma, hell, even he is just starting to feel like life is normal, and then they show up and threaten this life he built for himself.

And interrupting a pretty significant day by dragging the family into pretty intense political and gang drama. I gotta think on it more, but I really like it.

Hognoses actually are venomous! They're rear fanged venomous and their venom isn't strong enough to harm a human, it's meant more for amphibians cause that's they're preferred diet! You have to let them chee for a bit too so it's kinda hard to get envenomated by a hognose. Can you tell I really like snakes?

I think I unintentionally based Sweet boy's personality off my friend's boyfriend lol. He's a good guy so it works.

I can not belive that this au is what it took for me to realize Lisa has Reptile Nerd Weirdgirl vibes oh my GOD. Anyway once Robbie decides he's finally starting to be alright with this and let's Lisa hang out for Snake Time she is HYPED (poor boy is not used to this much attention and having his scales called pretty is very weird but also??? Very flattering????).

Robbie is not educated in the ways of snakery so when he transforms, ready for his 12 hours of weirdness, it's not GREAT to see his lower half looking like a battered glitter jelly bag from Claire's. Lisa shows up ready for a movie marathon and is EXTATIC. She's honestly been wondering if this was going to happen and has the pleasure (unfortunate duty) of delivering the good news (the dreaded long-ening).

The boy just about reached the top of her hip bone, the hair pushed back behind a shiny new headband he had undoubtedly just gotten. He blinked curiously at her, as if he was taking her reaction in, moment by moment, as if he was trying to savour it. Akami’s stomach turned a little, this weird sinking feeling that always announced the big hole in her soul when there was anything relating to her father.

“I’m Mitsuki”, the boy told Akami what she already knew. “You must be….Akami?” he was friendly enough to state it as a question, though he clearly already knew who she was. She wondered when his father had told him or whoever else came before him about her existence or if MItsuki just found her on her own. 

She stretched her shoulders a little. “I am Akami, yes,” she confirmed and almost added a honorific to that just to push the boy to be a little more respectful to her. She stopped herself though. He was not at fault for the complicated past she had with their creator.

“We have the same father,” Mitsuki stated and smiled a little. “That makes you like my older sister, right?”

Her stomach turned again. The big hole that had opened up was opening even wider, letting her stumble and fall through it like she was walking on a tightrope. Though she had had years since she had learned that her father was trying to clone himself in some underground lab or other, she somehow felt completely unequipped to deal with this: the real product of those experiments.

To say she had a troubled past with her own father was probably an understatement and not minding what he was doing was probably the healthiest choice she had made after the war. This kid in front of her was nothing but another branch that connected her to him, something she’d better not invite into her life. A lot of time and healing had gone on and Sasuke was better, Anko was better and Akami was better too.

But he was just a kid. When one thought about it logically, then one could think that clones are not separate, own humans, since their DNA wasn’t unique. But Akami didn’t believe that. This boy in front of her eyes wasn’t her father and if he grew up around people that cherished and loved him he’d also never become her father. DNA be damned.

Mitsuki wasn’t responsible for the sins of the person that created him, he had come up to her with his head held high and a smile, maybe searching for a family he didn’t know he had before. What people were there with him where he lived? Were there any? Sasuke had told her that Karin and Suigetsu had stuck around and that their kid was there too, but did that mean he was happy?

There was this part of her that wanted to take him away and keep him, raise him, just like she’d done with Sasuke, just to make sure he was going to turn out alright. But that hadn’t worked with Sasuke either and now she was much older and tired more easily. Shinobi business never meant a painless life growing into old age.

Mitsuki’s eyes watched her, waiting for a reply and it reminded her of one of her snakes. He was just a child. His child. But a child nonetheless.

The choice seemed impossible to make and yet it was surprisingly easy.

Akami put her hands onto her legs and leaned down to eye level the boy. “That's right,” she said, “I am your big sister.” She laughed a little and turned one strand of her hair that had greyed a little under her finger: “Though I am more like your aunt, when you consider my age.”

“Ahh,” the boy said, his eyes lit up so brightly that it took her aback, “Akami-nee. I’m so glad.” He definitely sounded like he meant it.

It was like light in his eyes and the smile on his face closed the open hole in her stomach. He was just a kid, his DNA didn’t define him. Why would it? It hadn’t defined her either.

“Did you just get promoted to Genin?” she asked in a friendly tone and tapped the headband that was still shiny and scratchless. 

She thought about hers, laying at the top of her sideboard in her apartment. She retained it from when she was very young, but it looked incredibly worn down. “You can have a new one,” she’d been told, last time she wore it. But she was older now and retired from shinobi business so for the very few official events that she wore it the old one did just fine.

“That’s right!” he said and tapped it too. “I was accepted as a Genin even though father is not highly regarded. It was lucky.”

“Congratulations.” Akami smiled at him. 

Her response brought something like pride in his eyes. “I wasn’t originally going to school, but father asked the hokage to accept me and then I was! I was suddenly around a lot of people, it was very interesting.”

Akami tried to picture her father, however he looked like now, walz right into the Hokage office and asking for his little experiment child to get an education. The image in front of her mind's eye almost made her laugh. “I know I tried to murder your best friend and take over his body, but can you still pay for my child’s education?”

“Lord Seventh is kind,” Akami replied. “Of course you were accepted.” Naruto would never hold his parentage over a kid like this. That just wasn’t the kind of person he was.

Mitsuki nodded. “I was happy also because my brother didn’t get this education, but I got the opportunity.”

She shook herself a little: “Brother?” How many of them were there? Was it another identical clone?

“Log,” Mitsuki reported. “He is about 18 years of age, I think. Supposed to be, I think.”

Akami did quick maths in her head. About Konohmarus age, she wondered to herself. That meant that either her father had experimented with clones already before the war (which might as well be possible), or that he had found a way to accelerate the ageing process. “Is there another?”, she asked next. “Brother of ours I mean…”

The boy shook his head: “Just Log and me and Akami-nee.”

Noted. “Well, that is two more siblings than I ever though I’d have. So thank you.” She ruffled the boy's hair. “And you guys are doing good?” She tried to keep the question casual, but couldn’t completely cloak the underlying worry. Mitsuki for his part didn’t look neglected and if he had a big brother around they could protect each other but still….

“I have nothing to complain about.” He said, which only half satisfied Akami.

“No experiments?” She asked.

He shrugged. “Nothing but the initial way we were born.” The way he phrased it sounded as if his birth was no different than any other birth, she wondered if he knew that his was absolutely not normal at all.

Putting both hands on his shoulders she directly looked at him: “Listen, Mitsuki, if anything - anything- ever comes up, you come straight to me. You pack your brother too if you want, but find me and I’ll take care of you.”

Mitsuki blinked so she grabbed his shoulders a little tighter to show that she meant it: “Promise me.”

He hesitated for a moment. Then he looked up. “Promise.”

Naga Pet in Winter - Jamil

Been thinking about the twst pet!au created by glass cage of emotion 12 (now deactivated but you may find remnants of their writing) which is also based on the pet!au made by twst-drabbles.

Also, I just needed to write something fun. It's been a while.

So have a pet!au Jamil who can't handle the cold.

Your poor pet does not handle winter all that well.

As a naga, Jamil is all about that warmth and while he’s not entirely cold-blooded, he doesn’t generate enough body heat himself to endure freezing temps.

You can always tell when the weather is getting a bit too cold for him by the sluggishness that possesses him.

The typically-productive pet suddenly takes longer to complete his usual tasks, he forgoes the hobbies he enjoys, and he definitely takes longer to get out of bed in the morning.

If he usually runs errands with you, he’ll be less likely to volunteer to join you, preferring to remain in the shelter of your own home.

Don’t even ask him to participate in any snow shenanigans. Might end up in a vet visit otherwise.

Still, he’ll try to resist any pity you may give him. He says he’s fine and will still try to do the things you ask, so you better just take the initiative.

Around the house, creating warm spaces is essential. Space heaters, heat pads, and hot water bottles will go a long way to making this snek boi happy.

Wrapping him in blankets is also a good defense against the cold. As a bonus, he’ll also be a defenseless burrito ripe for cuddling.

Alternatively, be under the covers with him and he’ll be beyond ecstatic to share your body heat. He’ll try to contain the happiness, but you can feel it in the strength of his arms around you.

Once he’s all roasty-toasty, Jamil can easily be lulled into relaxing. He’s usually such a busy body—trying so hard to keep you happy—that seeing a pleasant little snek-cocoon sitting on the sofa is such a sweet sight.

If you ever wanted to play dress up with your pet, good news! You need to make sure he is layered when going out.

Usually he enjoys the casual layers. Give that boy a tank top under a long-sleeve shirt under a sweater under a hoodie. Maybe more if necessary.

On the other hand, he’s not opposed to some fancier layers. Dress him up with a button up shirt, a nice coat, and a scarf and he’ll feel some pride in his looks as long as he’s warm.

If, for any reason, you don’t have the space heaters and heat pads or you’re in a rush to get out the door and he’s not ready, fear not! For naga pets have not only the human and naga forms, but also, the snake form.

They’re actually one of the few pets that have more than two forms.

Jamil is quite portable as a snake.

He’ll coil in your lap, maybe hang out in the pocket of your hoodie.

He’d never admit he’d enjoy one of those cat hoodies with the pocket to carry cats around in.

But he wouldn’t say no if it’s just around the house.

Jamil’s favorite place to absorb heat though is around your neck.

Hiding beneath your jackets and scarves or your hair if it’s long enough, he hoards the heat you radiate like a dragon with treasure.

And he feels closer to you, sometimes pressing the top of his scaly head against your cheek.

Long walks like this are ill-advised though. He may be a snake, but he’s still a big snake and that weight around your neck isn’t great long term.

Also, let him sleep here at your own risk. This is one of the few times that Jamil will willfully resist any orders. This is his favorite spot. You may have to resort to physically removing him.

Beware the pouting afterwards though.

All-in-all, Jamil becomes an easy target for teasing when the weather cools, but he’s so cute while doing it. He’s normally happy to spend time cuddling, but expect a bit of clinginess in winter. He needs that warmth.

Sanemi and Giyuu are exes (Part 2)

Ok so this part is just spoilers galore but if you don't mind then ok. Here's part one.

The second beginning

During the final battle after they have both unlocked their demon slayer marks. They are more open with each other, Sanemi has learned to trust others and Giyuu has learned to trust himself and Sanemi throwing the sword is awesome for him because it's Sanemi telling him that 'I trust you, don't let me down!' and Giyuu thinks 'Yes! I'll do my best!'. The previous training that they've done now comes into play because they know each other's moves and are able to fight together seamlessly!

The last shot of them eating Giyuu's favorite dish together not only calls back to Sanemi's offer, but I feel that it's also a way for Giyuu to begin opening up, like he's telling Sanemi 'This is me' and that he wants Sanemi back and wants to mend their relationship.

The side eye Sanemi's giving Giyuu is so funny because he seems wary. I can just imagine their conversation.

Sanemi: You'd better not fuck this up again, or I will leave your ass for good.

Giyuu (already playing the part of the whipped husband): Yes, dear.

Some proof

Like I said in the Part 1, I already talked about the romantic undertones in Giyuu's attempts to connect with Sanemi by his body language and expressions. It's obvious Giyuu wants him and now that Tanjiro has touched his heart a second time, he now has a stronger understanding of his emotions and what he wants.

Here, I'll list a bunch of tidbits that point to them having a previous relationship.

Giyuu and Tanjiro's discussion about Sanemi post coma-inducing punch should've stopped at theories as to what type of bean paste he likes, but they kept on talking about him. I don't think Giyuu would do that if he didn't know more stuff about Sanemi, maybe through their past interactions, his own observations or both.

Giyuu describes Sanemi as grumpy and hot-tempered in the Corps records, contrast this with his thoughts on Obanai. He feels sad and doesn't know why our snek boy doesn't like him but with Sanemi the short description he gives is similar to one I would give about someone I'm familiar who has a major flaw that I can't ignore that makes it hard for me to connect with them.

How did Sanemi know where Giyuu's training grounds were? Even Tanjiro who has spent a considerable time with Giyuu still needed a map for directions. You might argue that Sanemi's crow probably told him where Giyuu's place is, but neither of their crows are present during the entire scene. So Sanemi has to have known where, which means he's probably been there before and has sparred with him in the past.

I've talked about how their fight was similar to a conversation than actual training, and the way that they're able to perfectly counter and dodge each other's moves tells me that this isn't their first time sparring. There's also Sanemi's demeanor during the fight, in his training with Obanai and Muichiro, he was serious but with Giyuu he's...smiling? He was enjoying himself, even his taunts to Giyuu had a playful edge to it. It's like he's happy to be sparring with an old friend.

Giyuu's lack of reaction when Sanemi suggests that they beat each other up. He doesn't seem threatened, it's like he knows that Sanemi isn't actually going to hurt him and based on Sanemi's annoyance at Tanjiro coming between them, there's a small chance that Sanemi might have been joking and Giyuu knew it. It wasn't as big of a deal as Tanjiro made it out to be.

In Conclusion, Sanemi and Giyuu probably have history, which is why the vibes between them feel like they're an old, married couple.

Slight Origin Story?

Adder was originally just a college student in a rich family, despite this he wasnt rlly.. stable.. Always attacking others when being told what to do thus is often was called a spoiled brat by the other students in the campus. He did have one friend though, his was Hugo, a boy who he knew since childhood.

But then... a certain incident to happen... While one day, there was a campus party & smtn just snapped in Adder, this of course was from the pressure of his father who rlly gave no friks for him at all.. Adder to RAMPAGE & kill any known target that was "in his way" but then he was shot.. by Hugo? His friend! But why? Bcs of what Adder did what was the thing that trigger Hugo to kill him...

Adder was then reborn as a Sinner in Wrath, despite being the first level it was very much a warzone there, despite that he actually enjoyed killing ppl... As it was a way he can FINALLY take out HIS ANGER on the ones who wronged him.. Maybe is that what Mom wanted?

Years later he rose up the ranks, essentially becoming a tyrant till he went into the rank... of a God, who needed to be redeemed when you're now a God? He didn't, and he now had what HE wanted... To be in control.. No more being told what to do by some puny mortals or "peasants". His kingdom grew extensively, becoming bigger & bigger. But since it "was" still TECHNICALLY a part of Wrath, he took some of its culture & gave it his own twist..

And this is how Adder came to be! (And yeh I kinda changed his origins a bit bcs him dying in Highskool felt weird & I feel very iffy with that tbh)
